  • One of the most common mistakes candidates make is not giving enough attention and not investing enough time and effort to prepare for FIT portion of consulting case interviews (PEI, which stands for personal experience interview).
Common McKinsey PEI questions include (same for other top firms like Boston Consulting group/BCG, Bain, Deloitte, etc.):
Tell me about the thing you are proud of on your resume (a question Ritika attempts to answer in this episode). Variations of this question include “What are you most proud of?", “What is your greatest accomplishment?", Tell me about an accomplishment that you're most proud of", etc.
Tell me about when you convinced a colleague or a client to adopt a different viewpoint from one they initially held
Tell me about a time you overcame a significant challenge at work
Tell me about your biggest career achievement you had so far
Tell me about a time where you resolved an important disagreement with a colleague
Tell me about a time when you demonstrated leadership
This is a part of one of the sessions from The Consulting Offer V with Ritika (actual session is over an hour long and you can watch it if you are a FIRMSconsulting.com Premium member and, of course, if you are FC Insider). Learn more on that below.
Ritika learns how to answer a question "Tell me about what you are proud of (on your resume)."
After going through TCO V Ritika received an offer from McKinsey Chicago.
Ritika Mohan is a University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
M.S. & Ph.D., and University of Arizona, Tucson BS graduate who we trained to join MBB Midwestern USA.
In The Consulting Offer watch former McKinsey et al senior partners mentor real candidates into the most elite consulting firms. Across 5 seasons, the program has never failed to place a participant.
WHAT IS IT: The Consulting Offer is a groundbreaking case interview training program using REAL participants. All training is done by ex-McKinsey, BCG et al partners using the techniques we developed in our 1-on-1 coaching programs where we have an 80% placement rate. Subscribers can watch video recordings of the candidates being trained for McKinsey, BCG and Bain case interviews. The show is now in its 6th season with all seasons available for streaming.
There is NO other program in the world with real candidates being trained in real time with the results made public. Everything on StrategyTV.com along with our most advanced strategy programs can be found on StrategyTraining.com.
WHAT WE DID: Across 6 seasons, 7 years and counting, we brought together 16 candidates from 12 schools and 8 countries (USA, Morocco, Russia, France, Armenia, China, Canada and India) to train them primarily for US offices. The TCO program runs every year with new participants.
    TCO 1 Felix: McKinsey Offer
    TCO 1 Sanjeev: joined BCG
TCO 1 Rafik: joined a Boutique
    TCO 1 Samantha: joined Industry
    TCO 1 Solution Videos
TCO 2 Alice Qinhua Zhou: joined McKinsey
TCO 2 Michael Klein: joined Industry
TCO 3 Jen Nwankwo: joined Bain
TCO 3 Zach Steinfeld: joined Deloitte S&O
    TCO 4 Assel: joined McKinsey
TCO 5: Ritika Mohan: joined MBB Midwest USA
    Experienced Hire Case Interview Program
TCO contains the video training footage as we prepare participants for case interviews with McKinsey, Bain and BCG in New York, New Jersey, Munich, Hamburg, Paris, Perth, Johannesburg, Boston, Atlanta, Tokyo, Singapore, Dubai, Moscow, London and Chicago etc.
HOW SUCCESSFUL IS TCO: TCO alumni are very successful by every objective measure. In every season we have placed participants in McKinsey, Bain or BCG and we have placed all participants in management consulting when other good firms like Deloitte S&O are included. All MBB-placed TCO participants are still with the firms, and one is a principal having joined as a consultant. Only one participant has left McKinsey to join another firm where she is on a partnership track.

His remarks definitely reminds me of my ex boss, who was a McK partner at Indian office. The way both of them chose the perspectives to tailor/show just to serve the ends of selling -- then I realized I have long way to go. Thanks, it's a GREAT video.

Very interesting. People usual mistake PEI questions with casual speaking (like tell me about your profile).
It takes a lot of preparation and diving into details in order to convince the interviewer that the story supports a specific skill.
I like Michael’s approach to fine tune the story to eliminate any potential misunderstanding with the interviewer.
I’m enjoying a lot the videos you are posting.

Doesnt mckinsey only ask about the time you were in a leadership position, entrepreneurial drive, personal impact?

A guy walks into an Mckinsey interview and tells the interviewers he was able maximize marijuana sales in college by following the strategy Mckinsey used to maximize Oxycontin sales in the US, he was immediately hired. True story.
