    Thank you for the wonderful video on this beautiful pseudomugil species. Love their yellow bodies and bright blue eyes. I'm glad you mentioned their lifespan is shorter. When some of my largest furcatas passed away unexpectedly, I was devastated, but now I realize it may have been from old age.

    my heart goes out to these fish's brothers and sisters struggling to stay alive in the wild. may you keep your consumerism in check this Christmas season, remembering that everything you buy has other impacts that you are just not aware of. everything you buy had to come from some where else...possibly even impacting the wild future of this exact species.

    Another awesome Pseudomugil to make "The Boss" (my wife) want another species tank! MTS is a "problem"... Just noticed your C to F conversions were off... 16C to 28C would be ~61 to 82F... if it really is 68-79F, that is 20C to 26C. It may not really matter as our P. gertrudae are hardy and spawn constantly as you mentioned. I only know that as we keep the house at 16C overnight and 20C during the day in 'winter'...yes, this is Canada.

    My favorite of all rainbow fish is this one. I just finally got one male and two females of the luminatus, and I will try to find some more or get this very small Group to breed. Sadly, Pseudomugil luminatus is rarely found for sale in Germany, and if so, they are rather expensive. I paid 9 Euros per fish, around 11 US dollar

      They can hold their own with some of the bigger rainbows, but I have to be absolutely transparent about my relative inexperience with those larger rainbows- you might be better off asking someone who works with them way more then I do. I tend to only keep the dwarf species.

    I am not a fan of rainbows, until this Species Spotlight. These guys look great! Will definitely be looking into them more. I am looking into doing a hillstream aquarium, because I want to keep Dwarf Hillstream Loaches and White Cloud Minnows. Would these work in that kind of environment?

    • @angiebear8727
      @angiebear8727 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is an old comment but for anyone else who might be curious these fish need tropical temperatures and don’t appreciate the flow that hill streams enjoy. So while I’m sure it’s possibly it’s not ideal. They are beautiful fish though. Would be fantastic in maybe a 20 long species only tank. Happy fish keeping ❤

    These are truly beautiful little rainbows. I'm going to want some of these when I get my tanks up and running again. I think they would look killer with some ember tetras and pygmy cory cats. Do you think a colony of cherry shrimp in a heavily planted tank could survive with these dwarf rainbows? I'm ok if some get eaten as long as the colony as a whole will survive. Thank you.

    • @RachelOLeary
      @RachelOLeary  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, they wont eat the adults or subadults, but the teeny tiny shrimp will be picked off. That being said, if you have really dense areas of planting, some of the babies will survive. Their mouths are small, they just have a decent prey drive for their size.

    • @jamesjanecka5615
      @jamesjanecka5615 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool, that sounds like that will work the way I want. I'm also looking to have a large school of glowlight danios in another tank with a similar setup but I'm not sure what flavor shrimp I'm going to use. I'm leaning towards a dark blue variety, I think they would really pop with the Danios.

    I know you've answered this question a bunch but here goes. I have five Buenos Aires tetras and six lamp eye tetras in a 55 with 11 juvi peacocks growing out. I added them because my peacocks were so shy I thought maybe the tetras schooling would make them more comfortable. They aren't hiding anymore, but the tetras aren't schooling either. Did I pick the wrong tetras for schooling or are my numbers wrong?
