  • 어디까지 표절일까? K-pop 안무 저작권에 대한 고찰
Right, while K-pop dance is praised for its powerful synchronized moves and is fun to cover on social media copyright issues can give headaches to those behind the creation of K-pop dance or choreographies. We now want to delve deeper into this matter with an expert. We are connected to Dr. Chuyun Oh Professor of Dance Theory. at the School of Music & Dance at San Diego State University. Hello Dr. Oh!
    1) The global interest in K-pop is seeing no signs of waning. It’s not just the songs themselves, but K-pop dance plays a huge factor in the popularity of K-pop singers and groups. How much does dance contribute to the popularity of K-pop in your view?
    2) What makes K-pop dance 'K-pop dance'? Are there any characteristics or distinctions that can define K-pop dance?
    3) Despite the immense popularity and impact of K-pop, there is little awareness of copyright issues regarding choreographies. The recent copyright dispute involving NJZ or NewJeans and ILLIT is an example.
As we saw in our earlier report (a survey by the Korea Choreography Copyright Association says) only around 2% of choreographers have registered their choreographic work with the country’s Copyright Commission.
Why are we seeing such a low level of awareness Dr. Oh?
    4) Choreography copyright is not very well recognized overseas either, as I heard. But, there have been small steps towards its recognition in Korea. Can you tell us about this progress, and how can we better assess choreography copyright?
What efforts need to be done and by whom to protect choreographers’ original works?
    5) It has been pointed out though, that if K-pop choreography copyrights are expanded too much, it could stifle choreography creation and even hinder cover dancing. What do you think about this concern?
    6) Any final thoughts to share with the audience, K-pop fans, and artists?

Dance step cannot be copyrighted, but whole choreograph can. There are many foreign choreographers who create choreography for k-pop groups.

There are only so many 'moves' one can do with their body when dancing of so course many will be the same or similar any where in the world

If you want to protect itbis difficult because, every step has been made in the past so it is kind of difficult.
Also all the copy right problems are created by certain people who want to make money.
If they are going to persue this stupid copy right, they are going to damage K-Pop in general.

Kpop is destroying the entire industry. No choreo is unique or original.

Choreo is unique, dance step is not. You don't understand the different about dance step and the choreo.

Kpop is visual like she has stated, but I feel like it's the camera work that enables it and how much effort the Korean industry adds to great camera work
Two things that were striking to me was when I saw more "Stage Mix" music show videos over the years, and when ITZY was on GMA.
On GMA, the camera work was rather terrible and made their performance not great. The camera work has different goals within the US compared to that in Korea
With stage mixes, that is nearly impossible without great camera work; they are near seamless in how they combine multiple stage performances together into a single cohesive stage mix
