DITCH CAMPING! Wild Camping in a Ditch

  • Here is my WORLD EXCLUSIVE video of Ditch Camping. Yes, this really is camping in a ditch! I had a great wild camp at this location and this proved you don't have to drive miles away to go wild camping in the uk and have a great time. Ditch camping is a great solution for winter camping where you can get away from the cold.
    I had a great stealth camping set up in the ditch surrounded by plants and a big fallen tree. This provided me with even more shelter from the harsh winter weather. My tarp and bivy did the perfect job and were the ideal pieces camping gear to take.
    I got busted stealth camping 3 times by dogs! People couldn't see me in my camp shelter but the dogs sniffed me out.
    I used an OEX expedition tarp, OEX bush pro bivvi bag and OEX sleeping bag as my sleep system along with my insulated Unigear sleeping mat. This was an ideal stealth camp set up.

    I have “ ditch camped” many times whilst working in security watching out for cable theft on the railways. I always found that it was better to be perched on the bank itself as both wet and extreme cold go to the bottom of the ditch. Much better if you had been actually under the bushes and tree growth

    You logic is a bit flawed Andy. Cold air tends to settle in low spots so it's likely you'll be colder. The point about the wind however is spot on. If it is a windy day then yeah it may be better to shelter in a ditch but if it's not windy, I'd rather camp at ground level.

Have a look at my Naturehike Snowbird 2 sleeping bag review, it's much better than this one. I recently started a TH-cam channel (which gave me a newfound respect for people I watch on here - editing videos is extremely time consuming!). I headed out for a wild camp hoping to sleep in a ditch, much like this, but alas ran out of light before I could get to the spot I had in mind, so had to make do with a more conventional hilltop instead. Still looking forward to a proper ditch camp - it's a bit like that Oscar Wilde quote - we're all in a ditch but some of us are looking at the stars.

  • @billyandrew
    @billyandrew 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nature's foxholes.
    Having dug a few, I prefer the ditch in summer and the 'grave' in winter.
    Yes, it's difficult work, digging into solid, often frozen ground, but you warm up quickly and, besides, ditches aren't always at hand, are waterlogged or became victim to fly-tipping, so needs must.
    Dug at least four foot deep and a snug fit to meet your personal preferences with a tarp under you, an IPK over you and myriad choices between pads, mats, sleeping bags, bivvies, blankets, etc, I find the twice, sometimes three times, a year I go for this option is a good opportunity to keep my hand in and put stealth skills to the test.
    Some think it morbid, but I'd sooner sleep in my foxhole than a coffin, should SHTF.
    I'm glad you're opening minds to other possibilities, if only for them to give consideration to the proposal and, if any give it a go, well, it's winner-winner, chicken dinner and, at the least, they'll get a warmer, more comfortable night's sleep/sporadic doze and might even save a life that would otherwise be lost to hypothermia, so we'll done you and thanks for uploading the vid! 👍
    Subbed, Incidently.

    There's also almost zero wind outside the ditch either, you can tell by the leaves and shrubs up higher. The direction of the wind matters too. If the wind was blowing at all or parallel to the ditch you'd feel the wind too. Nice try though mate.
