Lin Waimao is one of the most promising young leading actors of the First Company of the Guangdong Academy of Chaozhou Opera (广东潮剧院一团). His wholesome, good looks should easily endear himself to a new legion of young audience and this may also increase the fan base of Chaozhou opera.
This aria is taken from the classic tale of "Jin Hua Nv" (The Maiden Jin Hua).
In this scene, the top scholar of the imperial examination comes to the river to bemoan his wife. He believes that she was drowned, but unknown to him, she is still alive. This sorrowful yet lyrical aria is one of the top favorites of many Chaozhou opera fans.
Lin Waimao's powerful voice manages to pick up every high note and render this aria with the right degree of emotion. Excellent.
