Lovely filming, you have really captured the essence of the downs. It is true with busy lives we always strive to be "doing" instead of just "being in the moment". Thanks Richard.
Van life is great! I have to say that exploring places with the van as a base is a game changer. I love coming back to the can after a hike and knowing I can relax, drink a cuppa, get changed if I want to and go to the loo
That is one heck of a pull walking up from that starting point especially the first 200 yds of the actual green way with slippy exposed flint on the incline. Well done. Travel in your van to the car park on the right and up a narrow lane at end of the ridge just before Parham and you can have a nice cuppa in the car park at the top:) Chantry lane Storrington leads to as spectacular car park and Neolithic earthworks at the top and you pass a water fall, unusual for the Sussex Downs, on the way up.
It's always breathtaking, every trip up on the Downs and then making contact with our prehistoric roots adds another dimension. Looking forward to part 2!
Thank you Richard for inviting us to join you on another of your Walks. I am not as mobile as i used to be, but at least your videos give me the opportunity to join you, I am looking forward to Part 2 of this one.
A beautiful day for a walk on one of the best stretches of the South Downs Way, I think there is a strong case for an English version of 'Almensrett', which in Sweden allows walkers/hikers free access to the countryside. The views were glorious, but how much better would they be without the barbed wire fences.Good work Richard.
Yes Richard you are right ,what you said stopping every so often to admire the view and give you time think about The world and where to go from here with all world problems ,and thanks for inspiring video from Tom
You have a knack of finding places that I have passed through but never spent any time in and I am so grateful for opening my eyes . I thought I'd "done" a lot of |West Sussex but the great news is that there is so much more for me to explore. They were indeed lovely views to the north too.
Great first part Richard I watched this last night with my girlfriend and for some reason with the music made me feel very relaxed, absolutely beautiful views and countryside, looking faward to part 2.
Amberley, and it’s beautiful castle, is a lovely part of Sussex that has been nicely protected and preserved. That footpath looks like an ancient Drovers Road. Drovers took sheep, cattle, pigs and turkeys hundreds of miles along these routes to market. This time of year pigs would eat fallen acorns and gain weight on route! 💚🐷🐏🐃🦃💚
It is frustrating to be hemmed in by barbed wire but from a farmer's point of view most of the 'general' public are irresponsible, especially dog walkers, and weren't there sheep in that field. Before there was barbed wire there were shepherds and shepherdesess who could tend to their sheep, but who wants such a job these days. Stunning landscape as ever, a joy to see.
The funny thing I found, was that it was easier for me to park my large van than it is my small van.My large van was about a meter longer than yours. If you are having problems reversing there a cameras that will help you.
Just watching you walk up that hill exhausted me! I'm 70 and walking more then a mile a day tires me out. I used to be quite fit, but 6 years at a retail job after retiring standing on my feet most of the day got me out of shape.

So true!

Absolutely - have the loo on board is a bonus - especially in the cold weather!
A nice breath of fresh air, up on your lovely downs!
Always!

I do love it up at Chantry Lane.

Breathtakingly fresh up there on the downs. The light, looking north into the Weald, is often so beautiful.
Couldn't agree more!

Stunning views. I can feel that beautiful fresh air. Sussex is a wonderful county.
A gorgeous walk - I also like the jumper / jacket combo!
It kept me warm! :)
You mentioned Rackham and I remember going to Rackham with my grandparents for picnics, I seem to remember it was very sandy
That was brilliant - thanks.
Very welcome

Absolutely - thanks for watching.
Another lovely walk on the Downs! Love seeing the color of the tree turning their Autumnal colors! Can't wait for part 2!!!
Will be up tomorrow! :)
Beautiful views , looking forward to the next one.
Thanks very much, Ann.
Nice.
Very nice

There is always somewhere, isn't there?
Agree. Richard makes you realize that there is beauty we pass by all too often.

You are so right - these old footpaths could tell many tales.
Nice walk, i like amberly great one.
Me too!

People were proud to do that job in the past - so much has changed.
@@RichardVobes I agree, absolutely. There are friends in the village who do shepherd their sheep but it is an increasingly rare sight these days.
Excellent video Richard, have you ever explored the Stepping stones walk at Box Hill?
Yes, there is a video with Matthew Holdsworth there as it happens! If you search youtube for him and Bald Explorer it should come up
@@JuliaHartley Thank you Julia, I'll have a look now 👋
Lovely out on the tops again, seems a while since you've walked along an open ridge with the views either side. Roll on part 2
Thanks 👍

I must investigate reversing camera. I am slowly getting used to the van now.

@@RichardVobes Good advice!

Not sure how to spell it, but what is a tombally, toomully?
Also, who is that gives a thumbs down to these indisputably thumbs up videos?
