    I have been putting down 10-10-10 fertilizer early spring for years. My lawn is the fastest to green, darkest green and best in my neighborhood. I always put 10-10-10 down in March. It puts back any nutrients that may leach out of the soil over the winter. It also helps root growth, and can help with early summer stolen and rhizome spreading.

      Definately another very good option to consider! Awesome to hear you're getting the lawn to look so great! It just takes a little bit to get great results. Thanks for watching!

    Good morning sir from Arlington Texas, what about other types of grass like st agustine for example?

    • @mikeshomeandgarden
      @mikeshomeandgarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there! St Augustine would follow a similar schedule, except down in S Florida, where it doesn't really go dormant. You'd otherwise follow a similar calendar schedule as Bermuda. St Aug would do between 2-4lbs of N per 1000sq ft annually spread across 3-4 applications, depending on how sandy the soil is. More sand=more Nitrogen. Texas A&M has some great online resources!

    I’m trying to figure out, “In the Spring, put down 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 pound nitrogen down on the grass”: is that what Scott’s calls it? I’m trying to figure out how to translate your instructions into the product I buy at Home Depot.

    Hi mike, I'm in north Carolina...I put down prodiamine/image mixture about 40 days ago. Lawn is cut short. What kind of fertilizer should I use and when

    Just bought a new house. Back yard was in really rough shape. All weeds. I killed, tilled, seeded, 10-10-10’d and strawed. It’s mid June in South Carolina with daytime temps in the upper 80s. The Bermuda is coming up in a few places but not everywhere. I’m watering on days rain isn’t in the forecast. Any advice other than what’s already in this video? I’ve never started Bermuda lawn from scratch.

      Thanks for watching! Congrats on the new home, that is awesome. Sounds like you got off to a good start with seeding. I also haven't done a Bermuda renovation from seed (yet). However, the channels I watch that have ( GCI Turf, How to with Doc, Bermudagrass Central, Yard envy...for example) suggest Bermuda can take a while...up to a month...to germinate. As long as you're keeping the area moist thru the day, especially these hot afternoons and avoiding any washout from the T storms, it should fill in.

      @planetxmetal 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mikeshomeandgarden great thanks. That area is full sun all day. It’s definitely a chore keeping it watered. I’ve got fairly good coverage around the perimeter with some runners that are spiking into the middle. Maybe it just takes time to fill in.

    I live in Arlington Texas and have been nursing my bermuda grass back to health. I'll be honest, it got out of control with dallisgrass and crab grass. I used MSMA to FINALLY kill it off and my grass is looking amazing!! I know bermuda grass thrives (or so everyone says) by being cut on the shorter side and with the heat which I've been mowing pretty low (I have a rotary mower...no reel mower (yet)) but my grass is pretty brown and not as green as my neighbors (who's grass is much longer)...
    I'm wanting to get my grass greener and would love to hear what you think will help? I just now started watering it (we had an issue with our irrigation system)...and I also have never fertilized my lawn. With it being almost June, are you saying I should be using a heavy Nitrogen fertilizer. Do you have any recommendations for a heavy Nitrogen turf fertilizer for bermuda? Do you recommend liquid or granules?
    So sorry for the long post, but will the watering, regular mowing, and the fertilizer green up my grass??
    Love your channel and a new subscriber. Keep up the good work dude. Very informative content! Thanks!

      Appreciate the sub and comment! There's a few things that come to mind reading this that I'd personally try if the lawn is overall not very green. 1. You mow low with a rotary mower, has the blade been sharpened recently? A dull blade makes the lawn look dull and stressed 2. For sure get on a regular irrigation cycle now that it's working. A few times per week when it's dry. 3. You're just starting to fertilize? Get at least one application of a balanced fertilizer down first before focusing on nitrogen heavy turf fertilizer. Get something like a starter fertilizer or a 10-10-10 product and put it down based on the bag instructions. Once you do that I think you should see some good progress. Unless there's bugs or disease impacting it which would be more of brown or dead areas or spots not an overall dull look.

      @@mikeshomeandgarden Thanks for the reply! Funny you mentioned the mower glades. They are dull. Super dull so I bought a new pair and will be sharpening the old pair. The fertilizer is on the way. I just started watering yesterday and the grass soaked it up like it was nothing and already looks better. Thanks for the reply and info!

    Question Brother. (Upper Middle Georgia) Did I understand correctly when you said 1lb application per month in June, July and August, totaling 3 Summer applications or just 1 application in that 3 month time frame? My 1st season Bermuda Sod and I Thank you, appreciate the vid.

    • @mikeshomeandgarden
      @mikeshomeandgarden  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! That is how I plan my Bermuda applications. Those hot summer months are prime growing time for Bermuda, so feeding it 1lb a month gets it really green and thick.

    He already missed his window for pre emergent. Should been down before soil temperature is 55

    • @mikeshomeandgarden
      @mikeshomeandgarden  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, soil must be below 55 for best results with pre-emergent! Good point, which I also touch on in my pre-emergent video. I didn't bring that detail up on this one since it's primary focus was fertilizer and not weed control, but thank you for sharing that detail and for watching!

    Worst, invasive grass ever!!!! Have tried to control it for years with Turflon Ester, but it always comes back! Always! Wish that I have never seen it!!! Thatchy, brown in the cooler season and still ugly in summer wherever I look. More helpful on how to kill it and keep it dead! Btw, I do follow the instructions on using Turflon Ester.
