If we go by the letters, that would be an ISTJ, so (given my knoweldge of MBTI) that would probably be a how-to manual or something! 😂 (no shade to ISTJs)
As an MBTI and book nerd, let me say this: ENFPs are probably (other than the ENTP) the most ambiverted types among the EXXX personality types. This is because the first function in this type is a function less focused on people, but focused on expanding ideas and looking outwards rather than being correlated to one's relation with people.
Lots of people think that having an E or an I means that you're social introvert or extravert. It doesn't mean that at all I've reasoned, it only means that your dominant cognitive function is in an introverted or extraverted form. And, like you already mentioned, not all cognitive functions deal with people.
This tracks. As an ISTJ, your exact opposite, I would never have gravitated towards the books you tend to recommend. But as a reader, I appreciate being challenged, and I have thoroughly enjoyed many of your recommendations!
To the first point: potentially you actually do look the same as always but in the same way that your mood influences the way you perceive your environment, it also makes you more aware of your own 'flaws' This is actually not for Jack. This is for all of you who might wake up one day extra tired, upset, nervous, etc and just feel like you look awful. You might not look as bad as you think

So I’m guessing no one will see this but I’m going to write an essay about MBTI theory anyway. There are 8 functions, and 4 categories: Intuition, Sensing, Thinking, and Feeling. The 8 functions come from the introverted vs. extroverted version of these 4 categories so, the 8 functions are: Introverted Intuition (Ni) Extroverted Intuition (Ne) Introverted Sensing (Si) Extroverted Sensing (Se) and so on… Each MBTI type has 4 dominant functions, and for ENFP, they are Ne, Fi, Te, Si. This means that Jack has extroverted intuition, making him have a great imagination and is a function most readers have I think. Introverted feeling is about being very reflective, feeling emotions deeply, and also being well connected to one’s emotions. Te means thinking well with others. I’m not fully sure what Si means, sorry… Also, another thing, is that introverted and extroverted opposites (eg. ENFP and INFP) actually have the same exact 4 functions, just in a different order, and of course the order ranks the functions from most prominent to least. INFP functions are Fi, Ne, Si, Te. I’m actually an INFP too! In short, the actually type theory is not about the 4 categories individually, but rather about the functions, or cognitive functions. The difference between an ENFP and an INFP is not actually their social skills, it rather about which function is their dominant one, Ne or Fi? Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk!

Totally agree with you Jack. As a teenage WOC maya angelou's poetry was the best thing I've ever come across. It felt representative to each and every aspect of human experience as well as being a POC and in certain allusions to anatomy regarding WOC and how you can sometimes feel like you're unwanted or undesired due to your ethnicity it felt like a breath of fresh air and a pat on the back.

As an INFJ whos with the Diplomat group like you, ill say this about ENFPs. The ones i met are always kind, spontaneous, funny and always exploring. You always read things that are out of your comfort zone and give fair feedback, you have this welcoming vibe about you that some ENFPs have as well that is genuine, you give people chances and is for the most part optimistic of others. You also seem uncomfortable when criticizing others too. The extroversion for you could be that you're enegerized by interacting with things in the outside world so it doesnt necessarily mean you're super talkative all the time. Also the fact that youre in the diplomatic group which has wizards (INFJ) and Knights (ENFJ) gives off High Fantasy vibes 😂.

MBTI definitely has layers to it -- it's like that iceberg meme. The more you look under the surface, the more you realize how logical it is, and how many nuances it has. You are right about the dichotomy vs spectrum aspect, and the importance of context. Everyone is capable of using all of the cognitive functions, but people tend to favor one over the other, and it's these tendencies that MBTI tries to capture. If you really want to learn more about MBTI, I recommend reading a Carl Jung collection, or watch some Frank James on TH-cam.
I’m so happy Jack did this video! I want to read the books recommended for MBTI for so long, but I’m INTJ and am intimidated of The Secret History (long chapters), Crime and Punishment (not a fan of Russian classics), and the Divine Comedy (which I read when I was 12).
Fellow ENFP here, I can be super extroverted and chatty. I've had a youtube channel for year's. Im not very active now BUT I love my alone time and need it. But were different because socializing isnt uncomfortable for us like most introverted type.

INFJ here, one of the weirdos in the universe, which is probably why we introvert. I like quirky books, eccentric protagonists, poetry, and have no trouble DNFing a book ( know what I like pretty fast). I recommend you retake the longer version of the test, because you seem to me truly a J, not a P. Your critiquing skills are superb,, succinct, and unhesitating. You give us short and decisive book reviews, and you rarely dither on camera. Love your doing a MBTI book video! And I love Maya Angelou and Vonnegut.
Lmao Jack dont take weak extrovert to heart I'm the same! It's funny because I did MBTI and got INFP and all my friends were like "introvert??? You???" Which really shocked me because I tend to think of myself as an introvert but I'm also really bubbly and loud in social situations. Imo it's obviously a sprectrum, but the crux of the matter isn't if you enjoy being alone/being with others more/less, its which of the two allows you to recharge/drains you. I deffo am drained by social activity even if I love it, that's why I identify as an introvert 😂
Hello, mbti nerd here, the E vs I doesn't mean you're introverted of extroverted as a person, it changes the hierarchy of your functions. "Dani, what?" lemme illustrate. According to MB we have 4 functions that affect how we process information, and depending on the order, there's a particular outcome. They develope at different stages of life, aka mature. ENFP Ne Fi Te Si. So your intuition is the first and is extroverted, aka affected by whats around you. INFP Fi Ne Si Te. Your first function is introverted feeling, so how your feelings affect your thinking is introverted aka only affected by you, and not others/your surrounding. Why does it matter? The theory says that the first function is the one we use the most bc it developes during childhood. So yeah, we don't think you're an introvert Jack you're constantly out and about.
this is a really interesting idea - and your definitely right about being extroverted and introverted depending on the situation. ive taken the Mbti test so many times and i always sway between INTP and ENTP.
Deciding between I or E is not so difficult, just think how you react to stressful situations: would you tend to withdraw if you are hurt and deal with your emotions or would you rather lash out, shout, cry? Also just read both INTP and ENTP and pick whichever you feel you are.
i was so excited for you to read cats cradle because it’s one of my favorite books! fun fact it’s actually cats cradle that kurt vonnegut said was his favorite that he wrote so it tracks that it’s recommended for his own mbti type. please check out more of his work!

As a fellow Libra and ENFP (also a psych major) literally the first entire part of your video explaining your feelings on personality types sounds like me all the time... I fear I have literally never had an original thought
I'm also an ENFP, Libra, and Jim Carrey and James Baldwin stan - literally one of the reasons I moved to Paris! Slightly freaked out that we're legit the same person, but apart from that I loved this video, and will be adding all of these to my TBR.
Hi PhD here - the myers briggs means nothing it’s a pretty terrible measure of “personality”, no personality researcher would actually use the myers briggs as a measure of anything. if you’re interested in actually assessing your personality I recommend the OCEAN scale. It’s evidenced based, it’s a measure personality researchers use, and it allows you to answer questions about extroversion and introversion within contexts (in relationships, at work, etc), including other personality indicators. :)
on schrödingers cat, it is a way to explain how observation actually affects really teeny tiny things, and so when the box is “closed” the cat is both alive AND dead, Only dead, and Only alive, because by not observing it, you only have the possibilities of what state the cat could be, and once the box is opened, the cat can only be one (yay quantum mechanics)
Greetings from a fellow ENFP-it’s a great personality type to be. I’m not a huge fan of MBTI because I don’t like to put people on boxes, but it was a useful exercise to think about how people can think and process differently and adjust accordingly in the workplace. Interesting that there are books that are supposed to appeal to one type of personality.
Now I’m interested in seeing Jack read books that are recommended for the complete opposite personality type

I love kurt vonnegut! Idk if you've read them but Mother Night and The sirens of titan are my favourites. Highly recommend
Another ENFP ❤ from 🇨🇦 Poetry-yes. I am reading Kairos on your recommendation
ENFP
Ne
Fi
Te
Si.
So your intuition is the first and is extroverted, aka affected by whats around you.
INFP
Fi
Ne
Si
Te.
Some of my favourite fictional characters are ENFPs too😻
Anya Forger, Enola Holmes, Anna, Olaf and Anne Shirley-Cuthbert Blythe
this tracks because i’m an ENFP and love every single book you love
Jesus it makes so much sense why I liked you from the very first video I saw - your loving INFJ ❤
As an ENFP I am 100% going to check these books out and see what else they recommend. Thanks!
Now I need a series about the rest of the mbti personalities 😭😭😭😍😍😍
this is a really interesting idea - and your definitely right about being extroverted and introverted depending on the situation. ive taken the Mbti test so many times and i always sway between INTP and ENTP.
Deciding between I or E is not so difficult, just think how you react to stressful situations: would you tend to withdraw if you are hurt and deal with your emotions or would you rather lash out, shout, cry? Also just read both INTP and ENTP and pick whichever you feel you are.
I’m one of your ENFPeople and Vonnegut is my favorite author, Cat’s Cradle being my favorite of his books
As a fellow ENFP, I am excited about these recommendations!
I absolutely loved Ruth Ozeki's A Tale for the Time Being! Highly recommend if you want to get swept into a story.
I'm an ENFP and to know that Jack is one too is a weird flex for me to feel so happy about lol
i was so excited for you to read cats cradle because it’s one of my favorite books! fun fact it’s actually cats cradle that kurt vonnegut said was his favorite that he wrote so it tracks that it’s recommended for his own mbti type. please check out more of his work!
YOU ALWAYS LOOK GOOD JACK !!! ISTG.
I am also a libra and I’m an INFP… no wonder I adore this dude 😂
As a fellow ENFPerson I feel extremely humbled that we now have Jack Edwards as well!
ENFP here and let me tell youuuuu Tale For The Time Being enthralled me from start to finish. What a magnificent work of literature. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Ozeki which was fab. The edition now sits on my shelf to end all shelves xox
As a fellow Libra and ENFP (also a psych major) literally the first entire part of your video explaining your feelings on personality types sounds like me all the time... I fear I have literally never had an original thought
someone said jack should do the opposite personality type books and i agree 100%
As an ENFJ structuring you day by vibes stresses me out 😂
Jack you look just as HANDSOME as every other day 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
4:50 “everyday I wake up and choose chaos 😏😏” HOLLERING
I've always flipped between ENFP/INFP nice to know one of my favourite booktubers in the same ❤
Don’t get me wrong, i’m so happy that jack’s going places, but i always miss videos like this, and it’s always so nice to have them once in a while
OF COURSE JACK’S AN ENFP!! Lovely, matches him so well (I absolutely love this type)🤭
ENFP here that was mesmerized by A Tale for the Time Being when I read it about a decade ago!
THIS VIDEO IS JUST A BANGER and Jack dragged himself to filth 😂
Also, we love a lover boi
Greetings from a fellow ENFP-it’s a great personality type to be. I’m not a huge fan of MBTI because I don’t like to put people on boxes, but it was a useful exercise to think about how people can think and process differently and adjust accordingly in the workplace. Interesting that there are books that are supposed to appeal to one type of personality.
