Tears, tears of joy. What a beautiful anthem. It warms your soul with ideals of brotherhood, love, peace and harmony. I love the Olympics and all it represents. May we all have amazing games in Paris.
I’ve been listening to this off and on all day. I’m a Special Olympics athlete, have been for 30 years and yesterday got asked to compete in the next world games in Berlin in 2023! I hope that we get this music with live orchestra! That would make the whole trip worth it 🙂.
Good luck to you Joshua. Here's hoping this music is used too! The live orchestra might be a bit of a stretch though. 😉 Hope you reply afterwards and let me/us know how you did. Good Luck!!!

The absolute finest era of Boston Pops - and for the great JW. His writing was key to my half-century adoration of the French horn and classical music - as both patron and performer. His devotion to global unity seals him as one of the greatest humanitarians of all time. We are all blessed to see, hear and work alongside him. Bravo, maestro!
I remember Watching the 1984 Olympics in LA and heard this the first time. I still am thrilled to hear it. The IOC should adopt this to open all the Olympic games.
A sensitive, committed percussionist makes all the difference. The principal drummer isn't just playing his own part with great style and musicality, but he's listening to what's around him closely. Bravo.
Wow what an amazing piece!! I love it, you can really imagine the athletes entering the arena with this music. That is very very different from what's coming for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the chosen music doesn't match at all this spirit, without talking of the choreography which looks like a school made dances, too bad, be prepared folks...

Me too! I'll be 81 in 3 weeks. I'm a very quick learner. Haven't heard this one since the movie came out. Been practicing the 84 Olympics fanfare when I ran into Superman. Dangerous thing to do. Anyway, I sit at the piano and play the themes in 1/2 speed. Now I can try Superman. Thanks!

I know John Williams composed this piece for ALL of the Olympian athletes, but this theme, along with the American National Anthem and the Marine Corps Hymn, are some of the only songs that swell my heart with pride of being an American. 🫡🇺🇸
I write this as the 2021 Summer Olympics are taking place in Tokyo. I hear some elements from "Fanfare for the Common Man" in this piece. It served as good inspiration I'm sure!

The Olympic Fanfare is the first piece of classical music that I ever experienced. Watching the 1992, 1994 and 1996 Olympics left an indelible mark on me and this tune is the central agreement of everything that I like and love about the Olympics
Subtle, sublime, enthralling, spine-chilling, The build up to the crescendo is full of so many themes, with the strings building so much excitement. Holy wa' from 2:55 on
and the trumpet and horns in the call and respond section toward the end. I was 31 in 1984 and remember crying when this was played during the opening ceremonies. So proud. so full.
Great performance. Always loved this, the best Olympic theme ever-it can be argued that the 1960 Tokyo theme is up there also, as used by ABC “Wide World Of Sports” theme. I put in the lottery for the LA Olympics tickets in 1984. My choices were Opening ceremony😝or track and field. I got men’s preliminary team fencing in a gymnasium, and Men’s individual sabre finals which was in the Long Beach convention center. 5 trumpet players came out playing the Olympic fanfare on long trumpets( Renaissance trumpets) and was fantastic. We got to see the great U S swordsman Peter Westbrook, take the bronze medal in men’s individual sabre. No other country really wanted to host the Olympics after how they were handled previously with tremendous debt left to the cities that financed the venues. But Peter Ueberroth took over the organization and put on a great Olympics with money left over given to youth sports.

I don’t know, but the French horns always sound so amazing in John Williams’ compositions. He just understands how to use them.
Yes my favorite is the Cowboys Overture/Suite but this is a close second in terms of fun especially when the percussionists go at it.
Why he's my favorite composer to play!
Yes, he fully understands how to use them and the orchestra players are really really good..
