The real Funny Girl, what a legend.

Lucille Ball's still the best Comic Actress in history! If Brice had lived, she probably would've appeared on " I Love Lucy! "

Can totally see the inspiration for Funny Girl's Shvan Lake, from the costume to the moves...

Really impressed at what a lovely speaking voice she had.

Performers then learned to do everything. That's why it's strange how people are surprised that Chaplin and Keaton had great voices. That the former put off speaking on film, and the latter had his own problems at MGM, is a different matter.

If I wanted to find someone today who could match Fanny Brice's brand of zaniness onstage, the closest I could come is Andrea Martin. She's the only performer I can think of who has that expertise with physical comedy and just enough sensitivity under it.

Fanny was an attractive and graceful woman, although she played up her faults onstage for comic effect. She was also brilliant and that was translated onstage into comic genius. There will never be another like her.

Generations will only know about Lea Michele and not realize the long tradition she inherited, from Brice to Streisand to Michele.

Only Streisand could have done justice to her and certainly did. In fact, without Streisand there probably would have not been a "Funny Girl." I know Kaye Ballard wanted very much to do it and recorded a brilliant album of Fannie Brice songs. And in the early stages Eydie Gorme was talked about, though I'm not even sure she knew it. On the road, Carol Lawrence, all of people, did the show brilliantly, though when you think of it why should that be a surprise? She could do everything!

Yes, I saw Carol Lawrence in it, and she was great. Too pretty for the part, of course, but it was easy to ignore that.

Anne Bancroft was the orig. choice but they were very aware she didn't have much of a singing voice, but the top people involved really wanted her, Fran Stark , (Fanny's daughter) , was not a fan of Barbra ..

Hi. The lyrics were never published as sheet music like some of the other songs from the movie (Be Yourself!). But try the New York Public Library, specifically the Billy Rose Theatre Collection in the Lincoln Center branch. They may have them there. There is one line that I can't make out: My dress is a cocoon, if I don't breathe I'll swoon, oh, I can't get the darn thing off too soon...and..... THEN WHAT?!? That's what I'd like to know!!!

Judy Garland did a comedy ballet decades later, probably thinking of this. See 5:04 th-cam.com/video/G-Chu6df0y0/w-d-xo.html
