Just a bit Building conservation advice from a building historian here: the lime plaster is in the house because unlike standard plaster, it breathes (I.e. it lets moisture out of the walls, instead of causing condensation). In a historic house that’s essential and if I remember correctly, you said your house is Grade Ii listed? In that case, check with your local building authority because it’s highly possible you are technically not allowed to remove the lime plaster. Also, plastering over lime plaster will ultimately change how the building breathes and deals with condensation, which can cause serious problems to your woodwork, damp etc. If you’re looking for wallpaper that can be used on lime plaster, you can find specialist papers that work on lime plaster (Farrow and Ball do some gorgeous ones, if I remember correctly). A bit of research might be prudent here, just to be on the safe side and not waste any money, only to be told afterwards by Historic England you’ll have to reverse it.
So true. I have an old house with a random damp issue I can't solve, because previous owners used the wrong plaster and cement pointing on the exterior! It can be a very expensive mistake!

If the walls of the dressing room bathroom are stone under the lime rendering, it may have been done in lime so the stone can breath. A hard solid (unbreathable) surface could hold moisture in the walls causing deterioration or mold. It might be something to ask about because modern workmen may not know. I saw that in the gardeners cottage reno on "Doing it Ourselves" on TH-cam in a chateau reno project where they explained that. :)

Hi Josie, may I suggest from a safety perspective, you need a fireplace screen to prevent any sparks from leaping out. Also from experience any candles nearby will melt due to the heat generated from the fire. Many a fire we have had, even affected the grate the logs were on! Maybe I can’t see it from the video but I don’t see a chimney damper . Stay safe .

Don't know if someone has already mentioned it or not but you could use Command Strips to hang garland and stockings. They are great when you can't drill into walls.
Definitely in the corner and not by the windows. The Christmas tree will not look great during daylight hours if it’s surrounded by the windows. Plus, the windows will compete with the decorations and not photograph well. I would opt for as far away from the window as possible, otherwise the light will cast weird shadows on the tree. It’s such a beautiful window, and as a Christmas enthusiast I can’t wait to see what colours you do. How exciting!! You will need a lot of decorations and string lights (lights are so important) for a 12 foot tree - but it will look incredible. Also please think about how you will store the tree for the rest of the year, that’s another way to preserve the tree for years and years :)

I think we've already seen a glimpse of that roast in previous vlog.. I might be wrong. I'm happy for their friendship. At first I was a little concerned because I felt one side was more cold, in terms of communication and support even. I'm so happy things are doing ok now. Both pairs are so lovely and from what we can see, with so much of the same interests.
Josie don't get rid of that large mirror in your wardrobe bathroom! Have your carpenter frame it out with some mill-work around it! It's large and perfect for OOTD!
Top tip for when you're unmotivated (like going through those beauty products!): set a timer for a short period of time (like 10min) and ust do what you can in that time. It feels totally doable to just give it a quick start and then at the end of that time, check in and see how you feel, without pressure to continue if you don't feel like it. Most times, you'll naturally want to keep going because it was easy and you've only just started.
I second Kim’s sentiments. What a lovely heartfelt note. I want to share that in the US there is a company called 3M who manufacture a line of self sticking removable hooks that can be used safely on your paneled walls to hold wreaths & garland & then easily remove without any damage. They can hold a variety of weights & even hold artwork! Check them out. May be the answer you’re seeking. 💕

I´d definitely would put a huge mirror in the powder room instead of the two you're saying. I think it would be fantastic for taking pictures and would make the room even bigger. It would have "brasserie of lights" vibe if you know what I mean :)

I agree with the corner because if you put it in between the windows you’ll be blocking some beautiful natural daylight which would definitely want during the winter season.
@@eileenchang2173 totally! Besides that, the lighting conditions wouldn't be that great, since it's back lit. And maybe the harsh light coming through the windows, being that close to them could cause same damage to the decorations and the Christmas tree (cause it's not going to be an actual one)

That corner has great lighting, the tree can be as tall as it likes and it won’t shade the windows, and that gorgeous standard lamp will light the tree even during the day when the Christmas lights make less of a difference. I am so excited for Christmas decorating. In sunny Australia my festive decorating involves fairy lights for after 9pm, poinsettia plants (spectacular potted red or white and green) , pots filled with white pansies, and wreaths made of eucalyptus leaves and gum nuts, blossom, and wattle flower. Ours is a very light and bright festive season with al fresco dining lit by scented candles, and chiminea fires for evening warmth. Guests are offered permethrin and citronella spray plus we burn citronella candles to keep the mosquitoes away. Our meals are slow cooked Aussie lamb on the barbecue with crunchy coloured salads and berries and mango desserts. Prosecco and gin and tonics, lounge music and conversation... all with masks and social distancing but we are not letting a virus get in the way of human love and kindness.

Oh my goodness wow! The Burberry Trench is the most stunning coat I have EVER seen! I’m 100% using the secret to get one of those! In a size 12 too as I need to loose some of this lockdown tummy! My mum used to work for Burberry and my dad had a one-off coat! 🧥 Sadly it got thrown out when he could no longer fit in it... how I wished they had kept it!

We started changing our basement laundry room and shower room., and we had to stop from listed building people ...awaiting her visit ...we only wanted to change basin and toilet etc... ours is only a little cottage..it’s not as if we are making huge alterations. Lime paster might be the original plaster...just a thought..

Josie, Regarding the lack of a mantle for Christmas, You might be able to hang things using a special hanger that goes on dido rails or picture rails. I'm not sure exactly what they are called but they are really great for when you don't want to put a hole in the wall for a painting but you have those rails to hang things off of.
