    Glad you gave the mega frames a try! Pretty much everything you’ve seen me do on my channel has been on the mega frames(at least since early 2019).... I grind better on the mega frames then anything I’ve ever skated but admittedly I usually only do Back Royales. Also I only really skate coping & hand rails. The tall frame will help you land every single soul type grind. It’s almost impossible for me to miss. I can front royale with them but I have to focus on it. I try to “point my toes down” while front royaling.... that seems to help me.

    I love skating flat...when it makes sense and works for me, rather than me working for it. Oysi frames in my opinion are the perfect balance, I have never once felt anxious about trying a groove trick in my MC frames, meanwhile skating the THEM frame flat I was catching wheels and terrified to try half my tricks. At this point in my life I don’t have any desire to put in extra work on top of everything else when skating.
    Also the Oysi frame is optimized, with max wheel sizes you literally have at most 1mm between your wheels. All of these other frames have huge gaps between your wheels (damn you UFS...) which significantly adds to wheel bite. If they maximized them groove space in those GC frames and added a bit more inner wheel protection I bet they would be fine. I personally am much happier to remove wheels to access UFS bolts and skate with confidence rather than have access but be terrified to try tricks.
    I understand that people can skate these frames but the design is not optimal and not viable for a broad audience in my opinion. Sticking with Oysi.

    This frame with 62mm wheels is amazing. You can definitely do 60mm. I did it for a while, but I don’t recommend going smaller. Even 64 was a struggle on street ledges. But yea! 62 is the sweet spot!

    I had a similar experience with megas a couple years back, skating 64s in them. I think there's a reason why you don't see too many people skating them anymore. The few people I've seen kill it in them have been skating ~58s. Maybe give that a shot? I'm curious.

    It might sound odd but I ordered a pair just to use as a 125mm setup with my GC V3 triskate frames. I skate SL's for aggressive and love them. But for my big wheel setups the shock absorber (which is perfect for aggressive) works against you in terms of power transfer over long distance.
    I think if Razors also sold a version of cults complete with the existing big wheel GC frames they'd sell well. The Impala skate sales sort of support that but obviously with the better parts on a Razors version it would be a higher end and more expensive skate

      @chilli-iceolive-abode2447 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say it's trial and error. Most people I know seem to skate 60mm-64mm in the megas.
      Personally as long as I can do tight enough crossovers to get speed without washing out it's all good.

    So basically, if you're getting into it, get some Aeons and try to learn how to do royals and stuff with flat, because you can go fom Flat to anti rocker but can't go from anti rocker to flat as eadily

  • @sebm5635
    @sebm5635 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Imo, the best compromise is 65mm wheels and antirockers, you can get easily faster when you need and avoid the flat set up struggle. I used to to skate like this and it felt great, but prefer small wheels + antis... flat set up can be pretty dangerous if you not born with it and if you can’t « squat down » all your tricks, worse if you are a tall dude xD

    • @VandKoala
      @VandKoala 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are options in between - oysi medium frames and AxyzS are both high-low, but you can skate flat and it is really really hard to get a wheel bite.

  • @SqueakyNeb
    @SqueakyNeb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hold up, you're telling me there's no shock absorbers in the skate carrying the name of the guy who used to do massive hard landings and ended his career with one (not that they would've helped him much but still)... that's just a bit funny.

    • @jonathanhayes6693

      I prefer anti. I feel like it depends on experience, but freestyle can tend to be too sloppy.

    • @BacktoBlading
      @BacktoBlading  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on the frame I guess, but the majority of freestyle frames out there feel sloppy, like Jonathan mentioned. You need a groove at least.

      @@BacktoBlading I will definitely get your 50-50 frame one day, and maybe also a freestyle one. Problem is we're in lockdown here again, and they recently shut down skateparks, so it's pointless for me to buy anything right now. Thanks for the advice though.

  • @gerryconner3372
    @gerryconner3372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hated this experience. I skated a ledge like this first time I tried Megas with 65mm wheels and I the went full speed as I would on a front in a anti-rocker setup, and it didn't end great. I hit the ledge, stuck and flew on to my left wrist. Lucky nothing too bad, just felt brushed. I still tried to skate and little after I got up, went slower the next tries, but nothing felt good, frame tricks I had too much wheel bit.
    The worst part, the ride experience didn't feel too much faster, better or a longer coast to me skating 62mm with anti-rocker. I've skated anti-rocker so long I have no interest in skating flat on this type of setup for a grinding frame.
    The only reason I wanted to try Megas was that I thought I wanted a groove to how Megas are, which maybe I might like a 60mm flat in them or something. But I definitely didn't care to keep trying the Megas with 65mm flat.

    • @Neo-ti2rz
      @Neo-ti2rz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need practice to ride flat... the upside is more control especially riding vert or quarter pipes and faster.
      Downside you have to stick your tricks every time.

    • @gerryconner3372
      @gerryconner3372 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Neo-ti2rz yeah, it's something i don't plan to do. After 23 years mostly riding anti-rocker, I got the control I need and as I said, it didn’t help much on speed or the ability to coast more.

    It's strange, I switched today from FLT3 antirocker to the Megas with 64mm Undercover Apex wheels (flat obviously) and I was doing royale on the ledge side of my practice box first try. Practically the same boot down angle on my 908s between these two frames. It seems your balance is just too far over the obstacle to lock the groove and let the wheel bite protection do its thing? I can't really do royals going flat, and i can't turn on antirockers, so, i just use one antirocker (second front wheel), and 3 wheels touching the ground... Best of both worlds to me! What do you think of that configuration?
