All the juniors have come up watching Ben’s Inside The Tapes, Story of the Race, and your incredible How To Bike series… of course they’re going to be better.
Unless they remove the paywall and stop confiscating footage this sport is dead, how many kids have money to watch….? they are the future of the sport and if you deny them access they will quickly lose interest and move on to something else.
Only Red Bull has the overall size and skill to put up a competitive DH series and keep it going into the future.

The ability as a fan to watch it and support the riders we aspire to has certainly changed yes! Paywalls,athletes having to surrender footage,UCI and WHOOP, do not understand (or maybe care) about the fans.
Absolutely. I paid GCN last year. Not doing it this year with FLOSPORTS. this will be the first year I have not watched DH since freecaster
They def don't care at all about the fans, I don't know who's actually watching their crap but actual downhill fans certainly aren't and i cant imagine the general public are either, they have created something neither party wants..

@@Ferrari255GTOthe UCI took the AMAZING free broadcast on the Red Bull TV app and pay walled it with a drastically inferior broadcast on their chosen platforms for the 2023 season and beyond. Plus they lied and said Discovery+ subscribers would have access. Nothing but a board deciding their dividends were more important than fans and products.
@@Ferrari255GTO looks like a different carrier this year (in Canada at least). I subscribed to them last year to watch the TDF and it was shit. No audio for half the race, or a lovely squelching sound… I ended up canceling it because it was ridiculous how bad it was.
Love Ben’s energy for the sport and how engaging these videos are. Never stop.
My daughter started racing at an age when I did not know how to ride a bike. They are learning how to ride as a reflex. all that energy management, it just feels right to them.
I would do anything do be 10 years old right now. I started racing DH in 1998. Things were very different. They would just tape out a course through the woods.aybe fill in a hole or two, but no groomed sections. And the bikes were crazy bc it was such a new sport.
Track was definitely a worthy track , loved the changes.
I do think it's time DH dumped the UCI and went alone and becomes more rider and industry driven.
Also needs to be more Privateer friendly again.
I'm so glad DH has started, and I get to see all of these videos done by Ben. But my most favorite part is one of the members from my favorite team (Frameworks) won the first Jr race of the season! Atta boy Asa!!
The proliferation of bikepark lift systems worldwide has had a major influence on the progression. Ive seen towns with new bike parks where the kids in a year or 2 are turning heads. Emtb is going to have an effect going forward as well. More vert = more progression

Downhill racing is relatively young compared to other sports, that's why its exciting seeing rider development and tech

It's cool watching someone not put a foot/wheel wrong, because they are nursing an injury, and to convert that into something smooth and fluid, and fast, is really cool to see

Let's not forget that many of today's juniors had access to bike parks growing up. That means they get tons more experience by the time they reach their late teens compared to someone who had to pedal up, or even car drop most of their youth.

Because of Ben Castros out their, whose fever, knowledge, and ability to explains makes this sport passionable to so many of us…. No free live streams are available, and in most countries it's Eurosport / Discovery Plus. I think Pinkbike had an overview somewhere about the various countries and what's available there.

1 more reason for youth is they immediately start on the latest technology so have more time and ability to learn it from that level rather than start learning on the bikes we had in the 1990s.

Same winners as last year but yeah it's changing🙄 UCI selling out all of us that watched on Red Bull TV 2 years ago is the only major change. So in recap losing fans is the only real MAJOR change.
I used to never miss a race. Not the case anymore. DH MTB is no longer accessible to all.

I love Ben. But can't help but feel extremely underwhelmed with the Pinkbike videos after the first WC of the year. There has been so many stories, both good and bad and no one even mentioned them. So many riders didn't even make through Quali or Semis. No mention of them. Some first time Elite riders did super well. No mention of them either. Some small private teams outperforming the big budget teams. Not a single word on it. Focus less on corners, lines and other nerdy things. Focus on what or who makes the racing exciting - the riders! With Fox Dialed gone, official broadcast being terrible, you have such an amazing opportunity to tell the story of the sport!

shame, that at the other end the UCI is killing it by putting it behind a pay wall, and making the broadcast that IS there - worse. Semis were not even on. Ended up watching live timing on PB. Was also disappointed by the course taping this year - spectators are pushed further and further away from the track.

Look at bike tech… 20 years ago bikes needed strength to play with, strength kids/women couldn’t compete w the elites… todays bikes practically ride themselves 😊😊😊 that plus non stop internet knowledge = i used to wear out vhs tapes for hours they see 4000 different techniques and inspiration in ten minutes… We rode on rough hiking trails, they ride in purpose built bike parks w shuttles.. different games ! Progress! Grip it n rip it 🎉
