Not the easiest thing to do when the cabinets are made of glue and sawdust/woodchips. I 100% agree with if if the cabinet boxes are made of plywood but when cabinets are made out of melamine sheets they are a lot like IKEA furniture. They are cheap to make cabinets out of. But you will be lucky to get 10 years out of them; even if you are gentle with the cabinets.
@@veronicaharper-kt6bxmelamine is the industry standard for kitchen cabinets. And rightfully so. It is flatter and more stable than plywood. Plywood is nicer to work with, but mor expensive. Usually by a large margin. Built and installed properly, a melamine kitchen will last 30 years. No problem.
@@reid8588 The boxes themselves may last 30 years, depending on if it is only assembled with screws and glue or if it is rabbeted, screwed and glued; but it also depends on how the shelves are installed into the cabinet boxes; dowels, shelf hooks, or dados. Will dictate the strength and durability of the shelves. Another thing, depending on how the doors are installed will also affect longevity. Ultimately though, the edge-banding will likely fail before the cabinet box. Which can be fixed by adding glue between the banding and cabinet box edge; the.applying tape to hold the banding in place while the glue sets. There are a variety of variables that will either extend or reduce the lifespan of the cabinets. Some of what I mentioned wouldn’t happen because it costs more money and when a cabinet shop builds cabinets on a budget; they will build said cabinets as cheap and fast as they can. Which would be using a CNC machine to cut all pieces, send all exposed edges through an edge-banding machine, then assemble by glueing and screwing the box together by using a butt joint.
All of the variables you mentioned that impact the lifespan are applicable regardless of the material used. Plywood, melamine, MDF anything else. Your description of the fabrication is somewhat accurate in that many shops use CNC’s to cut their parts. That is not an indicator of quality. The largest manufacturers almost exclusively use CNC’s, and in my experience they make lower quality products. They produce products for the mass market and their focus is on quantity, not quality. As such, the failures that you mentioned are more probable with their products. Smaller manufacturers are more likely to make better products in my opinion and also less likely to have and use a CNC in their process. Very few shops don’t use edgebanders and that is likely only because they can’t afford one or lack the physical space to have it. Glueing and screwing is an effective, reliable and strong connection.
Ever think of donating to habitat for humanity? They would be able to resell those cabinets , and you would have an easy way to get rid of them without trashing them…they would be great for someone to reuse in a garage, or someone on a tight budget who needs kitchen cabinets
I think it's really sad that y'all took the time to pull those cabinets down intact and them destroyed/threw them out. Habitat for humanity would have loved them.

I hope you put the appropriate support to the load bearing wall under it. It needs to go sit on the foundation and it can't sit anywhere on it too, needs to be reinforced. Looks really nice :)

Those cabinets and the countertop could’ve been donated to Habitat for Humanity and they would’ve used it in a home built for needy family. Rich people are just so wasteful.
They not accept anything. I wanted to donate all pur stuff after renovation. No one showed up for a year and now i had to pay a lot for trucks to clean up…
I have a friend she bought a good house 2 days later gutted it to the studs even the 3 washrooms 8-1/2 yrs later it's still gutted she had no idea how to fix..🤔
They could donate a lot of those cabinets the fact that they just go around bashing and smashing everything is ridiculous. There are so many people in North Carolina right now that could use those when they’re redoing their house.
Then please come and have all our used things. I put them on the marketplace for a year and no one showed up even if i suggested i can help with moving free of charge.
Only one thing is not clear: why break everything? The kitchen furniture could have been given to those who had little money to furnish their own homes. Such irrational use of resources is not very well thought out. I'm sure it was for the sake of the overall composition of the video. But...
I thought the walls inside the house were made of bricks..?? There are homes using this model in my country, but the walls of the houses here were mostly made of bricks. Woods are usually used for framework in the beginning. And I notice the difference of floor making in your vid compared to what I usually see here. Really interesting to know it! :)
Spreading the gospel: God loved the world so much that he send his only son who was sinless to die and suffer on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins as the ultimate sacrifice. So as long as we turn to God with a forgiving heart of our sins and trust that Christ Jesus did come and resurrect on the third day, and die for us on that cross that we will be with him for eternity in heaven.
I just see a ton of perfectly good material being ripped out and wasted in its prime, sorry. Literally my first thought. Maybe there's something I'm missing here.

Instead of destroying the cabinets, recycle them or put them at the curb for someone else to use, either in their kitchen or as garage storage.

Exactly! What was the point of taking them down carefully to destroy them anyways? They were perfectly fine and could be reused.

It's a beautiful makeover but I really wish people would donate their old kitchens to people who would love a remodel but can't afford it. 😢
