In the US, burger means the ground meet patty. Turkey burger means, ground turkey patty. You can apparently have a hamburger without the bun too, because the name is basically referring to the meat patty. Hence, chik fil a sandwiches are called sandwiches and not burgers etc etc.

It was probably Akash mis-hearing the French words. We don't even pronounce "croissant" correctly and I have come across bakery staff who couldn't understand me when I pronounced it the French way. They then proceeded to teach me the "correct" pronunciation. I had to let it go because they obviously didn't have the advantage of taking French classes.

But at different places these dishes are modified into their own forms according to the flavours popular at those places .
Like the way Indians make chinese chowmin which is definitely ten times more spicy and sour than it will ever be in China .
Food does get modified . Like korean ramen too !
