VW bus and pick ups were the only thing we had in the 50's 60's and the early 70's to get to our mountain property, we didn't get a 4x4 until the 80's, people could not believe what they were capable of doing.
I had a beat '70 bay window in '86 given to me with a blown engine. I had wrecked my '71 squareback spending money for brakes on a cassette stereo with a power booster... the squareback had been rebuilt with a universal case, so I put the upright parts on it and in to the bus. I hated trying to merge in to traffic with that gutless thing, I can't imagine a 40 horse in a bus! Eventually I ended up with that mill in a baja bug, putting an Engle 110 cam in it, several different carb combos- it lived in another '70 sedan then a '66 sedan of a buddies and it's life ended when the '66 got rear ended by a chevy van. Broke the case.
Congrats doing life right, I'm 66 retired july 2020 working on my 67 vw bus. Life not always fair having health issue if I get it done will not be able to drive but can ride in it. There a connection between me and this bus that many do not understand. I live in Iowa it is now -19F snow outside. My new car is outside in the driveway. My bus is across both bays in the garage so i can work all around it. Another thing our small town does not get...but we do..
I hear ya Busman. Time is valuable, especially when most of it is in the rear view mirror. I live in a one bus town myself, found mine out in the woods and brought it back from the edge. Live life on your terms, whatever you have left✌️
Busman, l retired at 58 in November, and l started working on my '61 panel bus! It sit cross-ways in the heated garage, while l refresh the old 40hp, and give her new brakes, new shift linkage bushings, and couplers (it never wanted to downshift from 3rd to 2nd), and redoing the front bench seat. Almost finished now, can't wait to have her back on the road. Good luck to you!

When I was a boy my family owned a 1963 23 window VW van. We took it on some truly epic road trips. Strange thing is I don't remember that the wind shield opened. Was that an option?
Seems impossible that the killer video could possibly get any thumbs down, but... the music really, really, really has to be responible. Literally makes turning the volume off necessary. Otherwise, killer video!
