    Even if you never suspected that your opponent has the straight flush, the last card would have potentially given someone a full house, a higher straight, or a flush which would have beaten the straight your were holding. I guess, suspecting that a bluff was coming since Bill Klein was firing raises from the beginning was a good cover to great cards in hand.

    • @TheGuyCalledX
      @TheGuyCalledX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The full house coming in makes it more likely to be a bluff. Would you fire into this river with a hand like JT or a K high/ Q high flush? It's a very polarizing spot on such a dynamic board where someone triple barrels with the nutted hands seeming to change on every street.

    • @ianforsyth2692
      @ianforsyth2692 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bonomo was crazy to make the river call. He had a bottom straight, no flush, no full house, no higher straight. And 1 blocking 10 in his hand. Klein fires on every street and on the river moves all in. Klein could have bluffed here, but I think it was more probable that he had a winning hand.

    Okay, Klein is capable of bluffing, but look at this spot: 3 barrels, multi-way till the end, super scary runout, vs top pros and, of course, zero natural bluffs...

    • @liamnevilleviolist1809
      @liamnevilleviolist1809 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah I was thinking that. It's literally *the* hardest bluff to pull off. Tournament OR cash game... to barrel three times into two or more opponents. Even though I can see the board, it sort of feels like Klein starts barrelling to protect a set which ends up turning into a full house. I think I would put him on a set-turned-full house (if I stay there til the river).
      The all-in is the bluffy part obviously because you'd think a player would go for value (maybe half their stack/ half-and-a-bit-more pot) and I'm sure that's what Bonomo thought before calling.
      If you're calling with a bluff catcher to beat Klein though you have to really put him on J8 specifically if you think he hit the board, or the more random KQ JQ with a spade etc if you think he didn't.

    • @Bendrix27
      @Bendrix27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@liamnevilleviolist1809 Or he could have just put him on a 10, it's quite a large pot that is worth splitting if you think he's trying to push you off the same hand.

    • @liamnevilleviolist1809
      @liamnevilleviolist1809 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bendrix27 Yes that's a possibility, something like J10 where the J is irrelevant. He was almost barrelling like he was holding 10spades and J/off and didn't want to give the flush drawers a free card, same thing again with the paired board on the river. Maybe Bonomo was thinking that.... Klein holding a weak hand on the flop, ended up getting a straight with just a 10 and was betting that turn to see if the other players had missed their flush. That's what got Bonomo in trouble in my opinion. That little tester bet (from Bonomo's point of view) but in reality it's a value bet, should've been an indicator that you need at least a baby flush or Q-high straight to continue with a chance of not going broke.
      After thinking about it a little: I reckon Bonomo *wouldn't* have called if it was a high stakes cash game.

    • @iambadatpickingusernames6669
      @iambadatpickingusernames6669 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It's this tightness that made Bonomo call. He probably felt Klein doesn't value bet sets on the turn with the flush and straight coming in, and doesn't value bet flushes on the river with the board pairing. That makes it either a straight flush or nothing, so he gave Bill credit for having some bluffs there (I think he would too, maybe A of spades + a pair).

    • @totalhysteria
      @totalhysteria 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@iambadatpickingusernames6669 agree with your comments bro. Bill has no reason to ever bet a set or two pairs on turn. Any decent player always check for pot control and take the free card, considering sb and bb have all the Tx. Question is then if Bill has flushes when he shoves and I actually think the answer is yes. I think you might leave too much value on the table if you check back nut flushes for instance. I think flushes with 9s like K9ss and Q9ss also should move in cause u block full houses. But I don't think u should shove everytime with a flush. You won't always get called by a 10 and both players in the blinds are fairly uncapped and could be trapping with a full house. And maybe some of the flushes I mentioned just check their flush draws on the flop. Idk, this is kind of complicated stuff tbh.
      Bonomo probably doesn't think Bill value shoves enough with flushes but gives him credit for some creative bluffs on the river. I can also understand why he called.

      I was thinking through it and what I'm guessing Bonomo was thinking was that a set (now a boat) or two pair would've likely raised such a connected flop to deny equity from draws. A flush, after the river pairs would try to get to a cheaper show down and may either down bet or check. I think that's how he put him on a bluff, though I could be wrong.

  • @mistafabro
    @mistafabro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    At first I thought it was just a clear fold for Bonomo on the river. However, I realized that Klein should basically have no full houses in his range, since all sets and two pairs should check the turn. The problem is that Klein has so many flushes in his range: AKs - A2s (except AJs, A8s, and A7s, obviously), KQs, KTs, QTs, and of course T9s. Maybe even some baby flushes if he's feeling frisky. He could also potentially be going for super thin value with QT for the nut straight, which Bonomo loses to as well. Ultimately, I think there's just too many value hands and too few bluffs for Bonomo to call this.

    • @christianseelchess2789
      @christianseelchess2789 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with the analysis on Klein's range not containing full houses. But Bonomo probably doubted that Klein would shove river with a flush as both Foxen and Bonomo could easily have a full house and it is hard to get value from worse. Thus, there is pretty much only one value combo in Klein's perceived range (109s).

    For those of you who don't play on a high level, there is a reason Bonomo found a call here.
    Klein barreled the turn into 2 people, which means he primarily has a flush OTT and not much else. Once the board pairs OTR Klein can almost never have a full house because all of his sets and two pairs would check the turn IP at near 100% frequency. This mean Klein's shove OTR represents a full house or better. However, Klein doesn't have any full houses so realistically his only value shoves are QTss, T9ss, and maybe A9ss. But it's unlikely Klein ever shoves a nut flush for value but would almost certainly check or bet smaller. So he is repping literally a straight flush and nothing else.
    The question is does Klein have any bluffs with this line? Maybe, maybe not. Considering he is a billionaire maybe he does have the occasional bluff or two here. Who knows. So the call isn't that crazy

    • @bc1sjw

      That size bet at the end really polarizes his range.
      So a straight isn't a great hand.

    My last poker game, nothing wild 5 card draw. I had 4 natural queens. I would have bet my house on that hand, but I didn't. Now what can beat 4 queens; 4 kings, and 4 aces right? This was a hand in a life time. My nemesis drew a 4 5 6 7 and 8 of hearts. I was stunned. I never played poker again. This was a legal game, so I paid my legal debt.

    Something convinced Bonomo, it could have been as basic as thinking when Klein looked at this cards on the turn he was checking for the spade. Why couldn't Klein have had AsAx through QsQx in that spot? Seems like that would play the same way and potentially turn it into a river bluff, especially with AA nut spade blocker.

    Originally i thought it was a really bad call from Bonomo, but now I’m not so sure. i really think Bonomo thought Klein was giving him a tough decision to chop. He figured Klein was using his table rep to blow him off an even hand. The call equity wasn’t ideal but it definitely wasn’t horrible. Definitely a bit of a mini hero call but hey sometimes you have to protect your stack from the nitty players

    My favourite hand 10 9 of spades :) Congrats to Bill, who by all accounts is one of the nicest people around, and donates either his winnings or his buy in to charity. Justin should never be calling in that spot.....at the very best he was chopping, and there was a significant chance he was losing. Bill is never going all in with anything less than a 10 in his hand, and with the board texture as it stood, there were possible boats, higher straights and any spade flush was beating him.
    A rare mistake from Justin.

    Not a lot of information meaning you’ve got to dig deep into your notebook over past hands.

    In his position you want to get value. If you go all in at the turn then all may fold.
    You hope that they hit the flush or full house.
    But if they don't hit you still want to either squeeze a little more out of them or go all in hoping they hit something and just can't fold it, but going all in runs the risk of them folding because you bet too much, then you lose from being able to squeeze that little extra that you could have got if you didn't go all in.
