@neoalphaone try 100% pure neatsfoot oil, it will oil, protect and darken the leather.

leather is animal skin. u can compare it to yr own skin in winter when the skin gets really brittle and dried out due to the much drier and colder air. vaseline or a hand cream will feed yr skin and make it soft. same goes for leather shoes. cleaning and polishing them regularly, especially when they got muddy like hiking shoes for example, is paramount because it keeps the leather well fed, soft and protects it from water and dirt. dried out leather can crack.

@transformismism i use something called brick 4 leather cleaner. works great and won't darken leather.

Magoo *Bick, I believe. Bickmore's Bick 4 Conditioner (and the Bick 1 Cleaner). Great stuff! :)

Magoo Do you know a good polish to match the brown ones? Got a few scuffs & lines to take care of at this point. Conditioning certainly helps, but with a good matching polish I think I could get it to a better point.

The only thing that I do with mine is clean with saddle soap and mink oil.

I'm going to make these boots my first leather boot purchase and I have a question. Is polishing leather boots necessary? Will it extend the life or is it just for looks?

    • @DD-oy4tx
      @DD-oy4tx 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Polishing covers up the Nick's and scratches. You do need to condition the leather every couple of weeks or once a month depending on the amount of wear and weather conditions you wear them in.

hello thanks for the reply, are your products available in Canada, if not, can you please advise as to what i should be using on the Wolverine 1000 boots i purchased? What should i be using on my boots so they don't absorb water and to protect from salt.? Can mink oil be used on these boots?
    Thanks for your help

Mistake, no wire brush you can scrath your leather! Plastic or natural hard brush.

anyone have any tips on darkening the chromexcel leather used on the wolverine 1000 mile boot? its a little too red for me and i would like it to be more of a true dark brown? suggestions for oils, waxes, any products or procedures that would help do this would be appreciated.

maybe saphir , i use saphir , there's bound to be some sort of stabilizing agent in them.
But i believe that it's as good a shoe polish as money can get :)

I'm having trouble finding sole edge sealer, is it even necessary? I want to take care of my boots as best I can, still learning the ropes though.

***** I did buy the leather dressing and leather oil conditioner, I'm takin it those should be work just fine? Is there an order I should use them in? I've been looking all over boot care advice and there's just...way too much, lol.
So far the process I understand is:
Wipe the boot down (laces off)
Brush the boot off (making sure to get in the crevices)
Then would I use the conditioner on places that are more worn, and the oil on the rest?
If you could put a nail in this for me I'd really appreciate it. I'm kind of riding the struggle bus as it is.

wolverinebrand what would be the best order of using the Wolverine leather oil conditioner and the Wolverine leather dressing? Or does it even matter?
I used the dressing first last night (had some rain around here).

wolverinebrand ok. Thank you so much!!!
Would it hurt anything if I applied the conditioner today, then another application of dressing later? I really want to see what goodness the conditioner brings out

I use Bick 4 leather conditioner and love it, but it does little to nothing for any scuffs/scratches. Anybody have any suggestions? A good polish? Some say go with neutral polish or the color will never be the same, but how could neutral revive color from scratched/scuffed areas? Others say do go with brown (my pair of 1,000 Mile is brown), and that any old brown would do.
I've read good things about Saphir brand, but they have various polishes and colors to choose from, and also a product called Renovateur - bit hard to narrow down and pick one.
Can anybody offer any thoughts/suggestions on specific products for dealing with the scratches/scuffs?

I have a pair of Alden boots (not the indys) that looks to be this color. I use the tobacco color from saphir and it's a great match.

Putting conditioner on the part of the shoe that contacts the ground sounds like an awful idea. Leather soles are a slippery enough as is, plus if that does anything to prolong the life of the shoe, you'll never notice. Soles are replaceable, your pelvis is not.
