The real part that makes no sense is forcing a 3 wood to be around the green, when you don't like chipping. Unless you except a miracle to end up on the green you might as well layup to your prefered number and have a wedge in
Min Woo Lee's vid with Rick was a real eye opener for me. When he commented on Rick's game about how hard he hits his wedges and iron's it really made me pay more attention to my own game and it improved for the better. Great seeing Rick mostly hit each wedge at 110% power and then from time to time saying 'I'll hit this smooth' (and hitting it at 109%)... Love you Rick! Play your game. How buttery is Gary though.
@therealBocaStudios he's a scratch golfer, playing some of the hardest courses in the world, yet according to Kevin his golf game sucks.... 💀Think before you comment kiddo.
So many great tidbits in this video, the 3 wood out of the rough, good & bad,; the Guinness at the turn, a must at Royal Portrush!, playing w/ Gary McNeill , what a gentleman and topnotch player and that was just the front 9 ! Savoring this one Rick, one of your best efforts to date!
54:50 That is one of the sweetest uses of the ‘Completed it mate’ I’ve ever seen. Good to see you still staying positive Rick. You bring lots to the world of TH-cam golf. Keep at it. 👌🏻
Having played Royal Portrush a few times off 13 handicap and been punished by my mistakes, I was so pleased to actually see that a great pro golfer like yourself can equally be tested by this course and frustrated too. It gives me faith in my own ability! Thanks.
Loved watching this. Gary's swing is so smooth and effortless. Rick should be very happy with this round - tough course and he played it well. That 16th would terrify me - I'd be aiming 20 yards left and playing short.
They say never meet your heroes. They’ll disappoint. But man what fun it’d be to play a round with Rick! He’s seems like the best guy to hit the links with. Positive energy, loves golf easy to get on with. Just seems like a really humble guy. Easily my favorite channel. Well done mate! 👍🏻
Portrush (and stewart) both are amazing places and even more spectacular on a lovely day, you just got treated to our usual summer. Come back in September when school is back and the weather will be beautiful. Loving the Northern Ireland and Ireland tour.
If you know someone who doesn't like golf or thinks it's boring show them holes 16 and 17.....Those 2 holes is what is we all experience every time and it's what keeps us coming back..............Great video @Rickshiels and Guy.
Great vid Rick, the nay sayers who post trash from their couches don’t seem to grasp your gifts to purest golfers who enjoy your channel. I travel once a year to the U K for golf as a 9 handicap and even when I have a bad round it’s still a blessing to be there. 75 at that course in any condition is probably better than these trash talkers could do. Stay strong brother!
Again, Ireland is a dream destination. Tennessee is beautiful, but when I walk outside and am instantly drenched in humidity, I get sad. And I see you wearing a quarter zip jacket, I can feel that it's not as hot as it is here and I want to be there. Anyway, I'm done complaining. God bless the USA, God bless Ireland, and God bless you Rick. Great video and great course
They have been nice with cool views but i disagree about being best in the world. The greens r slow and there r a fair number of condition issues. 9:05 tee box has dirt patches right in the middle
to be honest i agree with both of you, the condition isn't great for certain courses the views are amazing, I personally prefer slower greens so I don't know but being from Ireland i have to go with jordi880
Golf, perfect drive on the first and then fluff two pitches.....Mr Shiels is successful not only because he is actually a really good coach, great TH-camr and golfer, but because he is human, down to earth and really connects with his audience 😊
A great round of golf Rick, well played for hanging on in there. Joy to watch some great golf on an amazing course. Round was full of highs and some lows but very well played, especially Calamity Corner 😃🏌♂️⛳️👌👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great video. That second shot on the first made me laugh, after you checking your yardage book and saying feeling confident then ploughed the turf and trickled it 20ft. Classic.
That was a fantastic watch thought you had it in the bag Rick playing great golf mate nice to see and Gary is such an easy going guy and a real gent thanks Rick and the team great watch 👍
That's going to be quite a challenge for next year's open that'll sort the men from the boys for sure... Well played both of you, a challenge when you've not played a tough course like that before, it just goes to show that course management is absolutely key, if a pro caddy had been with Rick he'd have not hit that 3wd, it would have been a shot saved, if Rick can take his own advice and play smarter, then he will start shooting under par in no time. Go Rick go.!!
Rick is the only TH-camr that I can watch play a full 18. His explanations of his shot selection and process really is leaps and bounds better than everyone else and it adds a lot to each video.
Love seeing you play amazing courses Rick, and love seeing your game evolve. Would have loved to see Guy smashing his way around the course, but great content as always 🤙.
Guys, you cannot selectively edit out Gary’s putts if you started off with his t-off and approaches. You’re leaving everyone hanging whether he made that putt or not. 😅
hi rick. my son Lewis is a member at royal Portstewart and got so excited when he saw you in the newsletter. he cant wait to be able to play the strand course, his handicap's 24 so its not low enough yet. would love a shoutout in the Portstewart video.we have a holiday house in Portstewart so we know these places really well. thank you.
I’m loving ricks state of mind, enjoyment in this series. Course management and a good caddy helps so much mentally too. Don’t want to sound like a troll here but the golf seems pure and a pleasure to watch. I can find Guy quite cringe worthy
Best looking swings in a while, Rick. You played awesome. Incredible course, spectacular views and contours, and a fabulous playing partner to boot! What’s not to like in this one.👍🇨🇦
Rick, a challenge has been implied. Alex Elliott called out your golf swing on his channel recently. The only way to resolve this is on the field of battle: 18 hole stroke play, no quarter asked, no quarter given.
Beautiful location and course added to the list. TY Rick and team. Genuinely wonder how we can reduce the Rick groans though. Rick hits shot… **whoaaaaahhhhh… 😬
Great job, Rick. Great course. I played it a few times before they made the changes. Stayed in the Royal Court up the cliff from the 4th and 5th. Great spot!
"Back9Rick" is at it again!! Close to perfection during those last 9 holes, especially the 16th was absolutely phenomenal 💪 Let's not talk about the 17th though.....🙃
For as many fairways as you missed, and the horrible drive on 17, it was still a spectacular score!! I will always be rooting for you good sir, keep the beautiful courses coming.⛳⛳⛳⛳
Rick, as I was watching you standing on the tee on 17, I thought..."that's gonna go right." Yup. Didn't break 75, but shot 75 on a gorgeous, tough course. Enjoyed the video as always!
Good golf again Rick. You've played some tough courses in this series and scored well. Hope you come back again and play some more of our fantastic courses in the future.
I remember back in the day my Dad trying to get round Portrush, but finding it too tough. He was probably playing off 8 or 9, in the days before graphite shafts and everybody able to hit it miles. He never played it again. Portstewart - about 5 miles West - was his playground each summer.
Rick, hole 17 tee shot....The pro says I wish I could advise you but I've NEVER been over here!!! ( And he's been the pro there for 25 years) That qualifies this as a very UNIQUE round.....😂. Good solid golf Rick, just a few rough holes. Like thr pro said on hole one, that course is all about accurate tee shots . Well done!
Brilliant Rick. Really enjoyed these videos in Ireland. I think you needed a wee shot of Bushmills whiskey after the drama of the 16th to steady the nerves. You'll know next time 😉
Rick your fitness plan is really paying off. You look the best I’ve seen you in years. Well done.
is this a joke?
Gary is a straight up assassin. Master of fairways.
Chipping around the green? Naaa.
3 wood out the rough? Hold my beer ! 😂
that’s cuz he has the yips 😂
Exactly!!!

I figured I wouldn't be the only one who thought that!!
Good golf lately Rick! Fun to watch.
I love Gary's golf swing, I wish I had that natural comfortable looking kind of golf swing. I feel like I've seen him before on another video

Another spectacular course. Thanks Rick for the videos! Cheers from 🇺🇸!
Fine work Rick, keeping it real on the home stretch 😀 Gary is a class act and fine ambassador for the club.
It is very clear that Rick has improved his game signifcantly this year, and we're all here for it.
Rick with the signature "look at this..."
Portrush (and stewart) both are amazing places and even more spectacular on a lovely day, you just got treated to our usual summer. Come back in September when school is back and the weather will be beautiful. Loving the Northern Ireland and Ireland tour.
The north of Ireland really is unreal. Well done putting this one together. Looking forward to seeing some more content from Eire
Unlucky Rick, great birdie on calamity corner, I’m playing there next week so hope I play well

Great to see the best of Ireland’s courses on your channel Rick. An extra club on your approaches would have made so much difference to this round.
fabulous courses on this run...thanks for the tour
Rick I’ve Been a fan of your channel for 2 years now and just wanna say I love where your game is heading! Keep going brother
Rick, you should do nature documentary like David Attenborough once you retire! Absolutely beautiful golf course!
Showing places that has not experience civilization Like that tee shot on 17 😁 Was fun to see Gary fighting to keep a straight face😄
Gary is an absolute GOLFER

As Gary said " summer starts in April and lasts 5 weeks " I would rather be sweating !
These Irish videos have been class. Impressive in how put together and really showed the beauty of the courses. Great effort Rick & team 👏
Wow, these golf courses just keep getting better and better. Such amazing venues and views.

Is the drone shot at 33seconds in the single greatest piece of TH-cam golf footage ever?
Amazing how good these drones are. When I was a kid, the TV companies would have to rent a helicopter to get those overhead shots lol.

The Guinness was just what you needed. Great video as always. Cheers!
Great video as usual. The best thing is how you show the bad - that 3 wood in the rough - with the good - that amazing 16th hole and putt.
I have watched Rick for years but a Shiels v Finch match would be very entertaining.
Really great series of videos Rick, have been really enjoying this. No better advert for the island of Ireland.
22:44 Gary: "The fun begins, when you miss the green." Oh, I must be having so much fun, then! All the time!
Great video. That second shot on the first made me laugh, after you checking your yardage book and saying feeling confident then ploughed the turf and trickled it 20ft. Classic.
That feeling in the pit of Rick's stomach after fatting that wedge on the first, is a feeling I know all too well. LOL
I really like golf and always respect the course, but nothing is funnier than the accidental foot long 5 inch deep divot. It's shocking every time.
I look forward to these videos all week and this is a great one
