    That second landing was impressive! This helicopter have motivated me to learn flying helicopters in msfs. It's been a lot of fun so far. It's so powerful and maneuverable! Perfect for sightseeing. The ambition is to be able to consistently land safely much like I do with GA and airliners.

    Hi Chris,
    Another Chris here,
    I'll try to keep it brief. I'm in my 40's, I grew up in Snowdonia (so I'm familiar with RAF Valley and the various squadrons to come and go since the 80's), and I flew a bit in my youth. Mostly gliders, about 30 powered flights (Bulldog, Cessna, Piper) amounting to maybe 10 hours. And two brief air experience flights in Wessex & Sea King (I was an Air Cadet, and a pretty fortunate one too).
    My 1'st question is; would you consider doing a more thorough video course on flying the Hawk, maybe even with a preliminary course in a suitable turboprop. And secondly, would you like someone to play the role of the Student, I have MSFS and my VR headset arrives in a few days.
    Cheers
    Chris

    Thanks for a nice video. I nearly bought the Cowan 500 at my friends place yesterday after trying that one (and the 206L3) on his rig. And like you say that Cowan one is very twitchy, like flying an RC helo almost. Good fun mind you, very easy to whip around, but getting back into the DCS Hind or even the MFS 406 is quite a contrast. But realy fun to hoon around an airport or practice fugure 8's.
    One thing you didn't show so i gues isn't there are the visible passengers and addons. I believe all Cowan helos have various stuff you can bolt on or remove, something i find quite immersive. Does this one have any of that, or does it only have the guns?
    This one sure seems to fly more composed and more power/yaw restricted. Did you do any hover climb test per chance? Did that in the Cowan and that capped out at 24.000ft, probaly double or even tripple to what it should do in a hover.
    Would really like a good 500 as it is a lot more exiting than the 206 and stock 406. Wish MFS had a trail system like DCS but that is obviously not going to happen.

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrIanspeed a bit buggy, yes. A lot of the smaller developers tend to release when ‘good enough’ but they seem to be ok at following up with updates. The Cowan 222B appears pretty solid straight off, much smoother to fly. And I have to admit, I kinda enjoy the faster responses of the 500E but that’s because I have a reasonable cyclic setup 👍🏻

    Great to see you back. That helicopter looks really excellent. I hate twitchy simulated models as flying through PC controls, with less peripheral vision and no seat-of-pants feeling is already harder than flying a real aircraft. I can tell you why your engine keeps cutting out, its because you're going overboard with your torque. If you're in the yellow range, you're very limited in how long you can keep it there. If you're beyond the yellow, you have maybe a few seconds to fiddle in that area AND ONLY if you are overloaded and taking off or landing. Going overboard with the torque overloads the engine and you'll start overcooking it.

    • @cgaviator
      @cgaviator  ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that from my reference on takeoff? I’m fairly certain that was a bug

    • @utley
      @utley ปีที่แล้ว

      For reference, in other helicopters you will have TOT gauges (turbine outlet temp), EGT (exhaust gas temperatures, same as TOT), torque and oil pressure. Torque is reliant on the oil pressure, its what is used to move the swash plate. In order to increase torque, you have to increase fuel consumption, which increases engine governor speed, which increases exhaust gas temperatures. 3 gauges you need to read at all times and its the TOT, Torque and Oil Pressure. Any of those go in the yellow, you should decrease unless you cant for the moment. Also you really need to read your rotor RPM speed as this will overspeed the engine as well and overcook it.

      Have you got separate rudder pedals connected ? Do you use a joystick with twist action rudder ? I've had similar issues but managed to solve the spinning issue. Switch off all assists, if you've got separate rudder pedals and use those, try deleting the joystick rudder function, I found the joystick rudder can be accidentally engaged even if you don't willingly operate it and are using your rudder pedals. Also disconnect from usb any other controllers that are plugged in. Gentle inputs on the cyclic and collective too. My neighbour is a real world HEMS pilot and he's had a go on my MSFS 2020 helis, he said believe it or not it's easier flying the real thing ! Hope this helps.
