One thing about the Cowansim 500 which bugs me a little is the rear door glass line sits lower than the real 500. Shrike seems to have gotten it correct with their model. However those blades are a little on the chunky side.
Yeah mate I aree.most of the shrike overall is a more accurate model. The blades and wire strike are the 2 main visual things that aren't correct. . Remember when the cowan sim 500 first came out for xplane.. The skids were so badly not even close to correct. Luckily they corrects that abit. Once the engines running and you can't see the overly big blades, the general look is far more accurate than cowansim. The fuselage is about 300mm wider in cowansim when compared exactly over the top of the shrike one. No way there's that big a difference in real life to the fuselage shape.
I would love to fly with you and learn some things off you. I have the Cowan sim. I think I’ll by this shrike too. You make flying look easy. Love ur vids ❤
Thanks mate. Alot of it with helicopters is just practice and time flying to refine your skills. No worrys if you want to fly sometime. We fly usually a few times a week in the discord that I use.
Thanks. You mean like the 180 and 90 degree quick stop turns. Basically the technique that I use it for is to bleed of speed and height on a fast approach, generally ending it pointing into wind if possible.
@@douglasrobinson7857 No worrys. Theres alot of cool places to fly in New Zealand. I've just a finished a farm scenery in the far north and am now working on a big Nelson Kahurangi national park area with lots of huts to land helicopters at in the sim, plus a few ag airstrips.
Your footage is so smooth, especially your VR footage. I have a 2080Ti and I'm struggling with my Valve Index. Any suggestions? I have an i9-9980XE proc also which is plenty fast. I've heard VR just sucks in MSFS if you have an Index.
Hi. Yeah I think some headsets are just not easy to capture smoothly. I had good success with my old rift s which alot of these were filmed with, and then I had issues with fps in the reverb g2 alot as running the recording software and the VR was demanding. I had a ryzen 9 3900x with a RX5700xt gpu for most of the earlier videos. Definitely had to run the amd fsr2 on performance mode for recording which did help with increasing the smoothness. I think the dlss option would do similar for nVidia cards.
It's possible that some of the newer headsets are better equipped for recording. I recorded my first in VR video in the pimax crystal yesterday and the quality and smoothness far exceeded anything I've tried before.
Jesus you are showing some insane skills. Are you a “real” pilot or a sim master?😀 I’m new on MSFS on Xbox and become a real fan of helicopters and are going to buy CowanSim 500e. For now I’m flying with the Xbox controller in easy. Got to start somewhere 🙈✌️soon going to buy a joystick though ✌️
Thanks mate. Had a little practice flyibg helicopters in the sim. Have a full set of realistic style controls too which definitely helps with more accurate flying. You'll love the Cowansim 500E. Its fantastic.
Hi again 😀 just bought the Shrike 530F after been flying the Cowansim 500E for 100 hours. I love the 500E but it doesn’t hover any good and can’t hold the altitude with my Velocity one flight stick. It drifts up and down and I can’t find the ground effect at all. Because of that it’s hard to land precise. That’s was the reason I bought the 530F when you and others said that it is not as twitchy in hover as the 500E. I only tried it for 30 minutes but it seems to hover as it should and I can feel the ground effect and it is not drifting up or down. Many also said that it is very similar to the 500E but I think it is flying very different 😄 the biggest difference is the sound and the cockpit in my opinion. The cockpit feels so much smaller 😱
Yeah the shrike is a great helicopter to play around in. I probably prefer the physics of the cowansim 500e more as it's more fluid and keeps you on your toes but the actual physical model of the helicopter shirker has it nailed. The cockpit of the shrike 530 seems more like the real thing dimensions wise and looks remarkably accurate in the external view. Hopefully one day we get a developer make an accurate 500D both aesthetically and physics wise. It's the best helicopter in the world in my books.
No spray gear on this model. It has weapon pods which I forgot to mention. It's a nice machine and for the price it's definitely good value for money for a 500 fan. Not as much extras as cowansim but you do pay more for theirs.
Great video! I'm definitely going to get this helicopter. Very impressive! But my real question is how did you shoot this video! I remember in past FS versions we could do a replay, select how long the replay will be and look at it from various internal and external camera positions as well as the "tower view". I enjoyed watching my landings improve with practice. Sadly, with all the improvements that came with FS2020, we lost the replay function. It appears that you had the "drone" camera shooting the third person shots. How did you do that? Was it operated by a person or automated?!!?? I understand how you could put the picture in picture in the video editing process, but not how you got the external shots. I really want to emulate what you have accomplished with this video. Is it a program that you wrote or is it something available online? Please enlighten me!! Cheers!
Thanks alot. Yeah I've just worked out how to use it correctly. Msfs has a replay feature but it's hidden in the experimental settings in the options menu and needs turn on there every time you start the sim and then it gives you a menu in the quick accemenu at the top of the screen where you have to hit record or it won't record anything lol I know that from experience. Once your done hit the stop button on the replay drop down and then you can play it back. It's actually really advanced and has a way to record camera tracks etc. I set up an xbox controller on my pc to then control the drone camera while it replays back which then let's you record from any angle. It doesn't seem to pic up multiplayer aircraft from what Ive found so far. Using a controller to operate the drone camera is far easier than the keyboard as it tends to be stop start. Hope that helps you get started using it.
Anyone got the latest Cowan update? I feel the flight model has been over tweaked now and has lost some of its feel and is quite quirky Anyone else found this?
Those graphics are unbelievable, great flying as well
Thanks alot.

Hi, great video of the area and your helicopter skills. What is the techniques in doing the J turn into a landing and a quick straight into landing?

Hi Simon, nice flying + video! How did you record that video, which tools did you use? Thank you!
Thanks. I use OBS to record it and the replay feature in the sim.

@@simonclark7082 could you use plane maker to put some on it though
Planemaker is Xplane only not MSFS.
Definitely could if it was xplane. Hopefully someone makes a mod for adding accessories to aircraft as easy as xplane in MSFS.
