I just watched a video where someone gave the complete opposite advice on time on passage vs. time on questions lol. Something different works for everyone. I personally like to read passages at least twice.

Indeed there is no one strategy for everyone, so you have to find what works for you :) Hearing multiple opinions is often helpful as well!

Same concept with LG. Spending time to set up the game, make inferences and deductions, the answers jump off the page. Reading carful is key. Slow down to speed up! Thank you!❤🙏🏾☀️💪🏾

You did a great job explaining. Sometimes I loose a lot of time struggling to choose the right answer. I will take your advice and eliminate bad choices and keep moving. Thank you

Thank you for the advice! This is exactly what I've been looking for.
I've seen tons of videos where people recommend skimming or close reading. Tons of conflicting ideas to say the least. I "practiced" skimming (reading sentence 1 and the last sentence of each paragraph) and consistently answered questions incorrectly so I thought I would take the route of close reading, which I've been more successful with, but still need more practice. Your video offered the perspective of trying to summarize each paragraph in a sentence after reading it; I love having something specific to work on with regards to improving my reading comprehension. I was mainly trying to find viewpoints of either the author or subject(s) in the passage, but it would make sense to also try and summarize the paragraphs to not only retain main points but to remember how the passage is structured as well.
Easier said than done, though. I better get to practicing! Again, thank you for the advice.

Woohoo! We're glad you found this useful :) Indeed, it's helpful to have a way to process and remember what you read, like summarizing each paragraph. Keep up the good work!

Hi Paul! Here are some tips, and there is more to explore on our blog as well :)

I would also say to not get too distracted by the details: you only need to summarize the main ideas. The goal is to know *where* in the passage you need to look to find the answers to the problems. But you don't have to nail down every word, just the overall structure and logical flow. Feel free to email help@magoosh.com for more help as well!
