    This is my second pump replacement with under 60000 miles plus once because of a vibration. The dealer charged $1600! Had extended warranty so first two problems cost $100 each time. This time warranty has expired, will do it myself.

    They NEVER have parts in stock. Mine has the same problem it had two years ago when it heated on gas only. Had the water pump replaced, the next year the pump started making noise and was replaced, now that it is cold again the heater started the same thing as before. They should know what’s going on, obviously they have very little experience and do not have internet and TH-cam. My first repair was $1700 with extended warranty, last time was $1300.

    Right on brother glad it all worked out. I am looking at purchasing a used 2015 volt with a few issues that I think can be fixed. Wish me luck

    Yeah they are great cars. Just bought a 12 Premier (200K miles!)for 2700 that wants my feet cold when the AUTO is engaged, but heats with AUTO turned off. Enjoyed the video!

    I’m having this issue with my 2015 AGAIN! The first time was covered by the GM certified pre owned warranty, about two years ago. I’m hoping the fuse pull trick will work cause I can’t afford to get it fixed right now. Fingers crossed. Thanks for the info.

      That's horrible. Good luck. I hope it works.

      Fuse 37 didn’t work. But while I was troubleshooting, I noticed that the touch display would not allow me to select climate control for just dash vents. I ended up pulling the left side instrument panel fuses F3- F5, they were all slightly covered with some film, wiped em off after checking em, (did the same thing when Onstar and compass quit working) plugged em back in, now the infotainment display works, and I was able to select the dash vents, they kicked on, now the air is blowing nice and hot. So I’m kind of curious, if the dirt road that I travel on to get home, may have knocked those loose, because the ones under my hood were all very loose, so I pushed all those back in as well. But I don’t know what would be causing the build up on the fuses. Light moisture build up maybe? Interesting.

      @@dmripley21 That is very interesting. Dirt roads suck. I have a co-worker that actually got upset when they paved his dirt road. He is the only person I've ever known that actually wanted to live on a dirt road. Thanks for the info.

      Same with my 15, needs to be done for 3rd time with less than 60000 miles.

    I worked at a car dealer in the service department and everything they said and did is correct. Also dealt with Silver Rock, one of the best after market warranty companies i ever dealt with. Very customer sensitive.

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's good to know. The problem is when dealing with customers who don't have a clue how the industry works. That can be a problem and I admit I have no idea how a shop works. Us ignorant people think you hook a car to a machine, it tells what's wrong, and that's it. When the receptionist told me "We looked at it (Friday) but don't know anything but we might know something Tuesday" to a person who knows nothing like me the alarm bells go off. I was thinking "how can they not know but somehow they will know next week." I thought something was not making sense. Then, the next day or two, I talked to the service manager and he did an excellent job explaining it to me in elementary terms. After talking to him though I began to wonder if the EV mechanic had the skills to fix it because they admitted the never see an EV. That's why I was afraid it'd take a month. Sometimes it just comes down to how you explain it to customers who don't know how the industry works.
      Customers not understanding why things are done happens in all industries. When I was a Domino's Pizza store manager all the time customers wanted us to deliver 1/2 mile or even 1/4 mile outside our area and they never understood why we would not do that. "We are not worried about the 30 minute guarantee" they'd say. The thing is the guy 1 mile from the store was worried about it and if a driver is too far out he can't get back in time to deliver the ones near the store. Just an example of what I mean when I say sometimes customer just don't understand and you have to explain it to them.

      I would join the Volt Facebook owners group if you have not already and ask them what they think. They might have a good answer for you.

    I have a 2014, same color combo as yours, 'cept mine has the leather / cloth heated seats and the Bose radio upgrade. Mine needed the heater module, which as $731.61, which supposedly failed because the AUX pump ($263.53) failed, since the pump wasn't circulating the coolant (they said it probably fried itself, though I'd think the system would have been smart enough to turn the heater module off when it reached a specific temperature, but what do I know). It also needed a manifold gasket at $16.40, and finally replacement coolant at 20.98.
    Including the diagnostic fee of $108, and some sort of ridiculous "shop charge" of $40, the total came to 1765.74. Maybe I should look into this Silver Rock company to see if they offer warranties directly to individual customers for a reasonable price... ;)

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my gosh that sucks. I'm not gonna bash Silver Rock after how awesome they treated me but I know from experience that some warranty companies do use any excuse in the world NOT to pay or cheapest fixes possible instead of real fixes in certain situations. As I said in the video Silver Rock is getting 20K or 25K contracts a day from Carvana. In that situation you better walk the straight and narrow. You don't mess around when tens of thousands of contracts are coming in from one company. Would they act differently if it was just you they had to worry about teeing off? I have no idea and probably not but it would worry me some.

    Why did you replace the spark ev ......

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not enough range in winter. To be fair to the car for some reason mine had about 20% battery degradation and I have no idea why. I bought it like that from Carvana but I could go about 75 miles in summer on the highway but only about 50 in winter with the heat on a comfortable level.

    Dang I forgot about the 100 day warranty..I had my Chevy Spark EV's 12-volt battery die on Christmas day and bought the expensive $200 AGM OEM specialty battery for it. I also found paper work in the Spark that showed the dealer that sold it to Carvana knew there was an issue with the 12 Volt battery but they only decided to re-charge it and not replace it...grr

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not good. I'd call Carvana and tell them I found paperwork showing they knew the battery was bad and ask for some money.

    love to see how far you can get around just using the electric range of that volt.

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not as far in winter. Plus all kinds of stuff plays into it. In winter with heat on above 32 or so I expect I'll get about 32 to 35 miles at 55 MPH or less. In summer I hear I might get 40 or 42 but I'll have to wait and see.

    • @michrech
      @michrech 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the summer, mine gets roughly 40mpg (depending on how much lead is in my foot). In the winter (Northeast Missouri), I've been getting roughly 21.

    Sounds like you bought a LEMON and that Carvana are giving you the run around to ensure that you surpass the 14 day return policy without fixing the car under warranty.

    • @ArkansasEV
      @ArkansasEV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Carvana's warranty company paid to have it fixed and I think, not sure, it cost them almost $500 to do so. Years after this was filmed I have my problems with Carvana for sure and don't like them as a company any longer but I have no complaints about this particular purchase.

    Started watching this video because my 2015 started to blow cold air this morning, the first day under 40 degrees. Watch all the way to the end and truthfully forgot about the auto button. If the auto button and all of a sudden I had hot air. Go figure.

    My volt heat is like a furnace. I'll tell you what I done do. I use the heat from the gas engine as my heater. I'll run on gas and switch to battery sometimes but if you're on gas mode and FAN only it gets super hot inside. I also use like 6% battery vs 100% using heater mode

    a 45 minute job and a 200 dollar part. Guess it is Arkansas but over a week was waiting for the part that should have been a no brainer for anyone with google access. Hope you do not have a major problem like a flat tire for them to discover the fix.

    This must be an incredibly common problem, I got some warranty info and repair history from GM for my 2015 volt and that heater coolant pump fix had already been done to mine at 20,000 miles. Hopefully the replacement is better than the original! Loving my Volt sounds like you do too!

      I have had mine replaced three times under 60000 miles. The Chinese parts are junk. Shouldn’t take more than a few hours to replace the pump.
