It doesn't define a trans person at all, it's just her own and some other trans women's experiences as children. Lots of trans women were also tomboys as children, and many are gay women after transitioning.
Gender dysphoria is a real condition and it appears from a very young age, it has nothing to do with clothes or colours at all, that's just a way that some trans people express themselves to show how they personally felt as a child. If fashions were the opposite way around, a trans girl would want to be the other way, because it's specifically about gender, not sexuality or fashions.
I don't see why people don't understand, it's not rocket science. It's biological. The part of the brain that determines gender, which is there specifically for things like procreation and various different gender roles that humans do have, just like all other animals have, is different in trans people, they ID as the opposite gender or as someone in the middle. Something happens with that part of the brain before birth.
Just leave them alone and don't attack them. What right do you have to attack someone for the way they were born? What can they do about that? All they can do is try to put things right the best they can and they shouldn't have to put up with abuse their whole life because of people who think they know better when they don't.

It's pretty obvious that there was some indoctrination taking place when she was a child. She states she remembers these thoughts from when she was 2, however that's impossible due to infantile amnesia. It just goes to show she's been told how to think and feel along the way. I still believe this is a real phenomenon (gender dysphoria) but definitely needs more discussion and parents and medical professionals to stop inserting personal beliefs on these decisions.

*disclaimer: NOT here to spread hate, just simply to share my opinion which I am entitled to do. So if you can’t handle different opinions in a mature manner please don’t comment or give hate* What’s interesting is that transgender people insist on changing their bodies to match their brains, however never explore the option of changing their brains to match their bodies. Have psychologists and doctors thought of ways to transition the mind to align with their body? In my opinion I think that would provide a happier life for the person. Example, Jazz and her mother have both stated how Jazz will never be able to have children of her own, and how she dreams of being a parent to her OWN children. Let’s imagine she went through some sort of psychological treatment to become more male in her mind, now she could go on to be a paternal father to her own children. Just a thought. This comment isn’t intended to attack Jazz or transgender people, just expressing my opinion

Leah this is a awesome question and I agree. Instead of mutilating perfectly healthy body parts just to fit into society versus loving your body for what it is would indeed lead to a happier lifestyle and a healthier lifestyle now what Jazz parents have done to him has changed the course of his natural nature and he will always be damaged and the parents are 110% to blame especially the mother. If you watch some of his episodes he's confused whether he likes boys or girls but then realizes that he's most attracted to girls that's his natural course coming through but because he's on so many hormones at an early age and if you look back at old videos when he's a kid he didn't really care whether to wear dresses or all of the other stuff he didn't care about it he was very athletic he's very good at sports just like many boys and girls are when their kids but now if you look at jazz his health is deteriorating at the cost of wanting to be so-called more girly by wearing pink colors dresses dressing like a mermaid which has nothing to do with being a girl or a woman Jazz can never experience a. He can never give birth like a woman can give birth and now he can never give children to a woman because of what his parents have done to him

I think we need to speak frankly on these matters. To have the confirmation surgery is castration/genital mutilation. As an adult you can do as you like, but this was done to Jazz as a minor and I can't believe this is accepted. Everyone, the parents down to the surgeons should be jailed. That is a brutal operation, often leading to more down the road. There is no way a minor should be able to make this call when they can't enlist or buy a pack of cigarettes. Insane! Jazz had a sweet demeanor, but I'd brainwashed, and so far down the rabbit hole accepting truth would be unlikely.

You are eligible to enlist between the ages of 17 and 35. Jazz was over 17 when she had surgery. So, because she can enlist, based on that criteria, she should therefore be able to have the surgery. Had she waited four more months, she would turn 18, and still not be eligible to buy cigarettes, but would be eligible to have surgery without parental permission. Arguing that she is a 'minor' isn't useful, because the age of majority is arbitrarily set by different jurisdictions, some of which have laws that allow people younger than 17 to give consent. Arguing that she was a minor is designed to be inflammatory.
Regardless of at what age she is eligible to have surgery, children do have surgery, and it's standard that the parent gives consent. You object to this particular surgery for 17 year olds, even for those who obtain parental permission, because it is gender affirming surgery. Calling it 'mutilation', wanting to jail parents and surgeons, you object to the surgery as a legitimate procedure. For a procedure you call mutilation, much like Jordan Peterson says it's "butchering", and "arrest them all!", to say, 'as an adult you can do as you like', is self-righteous indifference towards trans adults. Frankly, you don't respect trans people, or their needs, or their decisions. You don't recognise that trans people are who they say they are, and your rhetoric serves to delegitimise trans people. You want control over 17 year old trans bodies, you don't trust them or their families or doctors to make these decisions. You know what's best for them.

As a conservative person, I happen to think that there is a scientific basis for transgendersism and many people do suffer from gender dysphoria, but in this specific case, it is clear that she has not been able to fully comprehend her own self throughout her childhood and adulthood and that she was rushed into things by her ignorant and overwhelmed mother. A lot of parents who have children with gender dysphoria take a different route and provide more support and therapy, whereas Jazz was rapidly forced to transition from boyhood to girlhood whilst having a camera document her every move. Many kids exhibit preferences for opposite gender roles, attire, and toys, which is completely normal and has been around forever, but with Jazz, as you can tell from this interview alone, she’s always been very dramatic, immature, and eccentric, which obviously had a big role to play in her parent’s comprehension of what young Jazz may have been telling them. “Mommy, I think I’m a girl,” usually results in a “Why do you feel this way?” And life continues on, with the child ending up as straight, gay, or down the road remains certain they are trans and continues with that journey, but Jazz wasn’t given these choices and was forced into this at a young age. There’s a good possibility, based off the family dynamics and many other factors, that Jazz could’ve been straight or gay or maybe discovered much later that she actually was trans, but was unable to truly find herself due to the lack of support and attention from her parents. We’ll never know for sure, like we can infer from other trans people who have spoken out..

    • @mother55

The only silly thing is that you think this is a sound argument. How can you say she is "pretending" by living her truth. Just be honest. You don't understand it and it scares you because you're ignorant. It's okay. By the way, Jazz is a biological female. You don't get to decide what science is or isn't because of your "feelings"

I can't say if something is good or bad, without judging. If a confused boy, decides to advertise his mental disorder and genital mutilation, i say, that is a bad thing. And whenever he insist to be a girl, i think it is important to say, that he is just a boy with serious mental health problems.

As a woman it’s insulting that he demands to be called a woman. Once you have awful periods, carry and deliver children, go threw menopause and all the rest us REAL women experience then you can call yourself a female. Also, I can’t imagine being a man who is tricked, and then finds out the truth. To most it would be devastating and the result could be tragic. Be whatever you want, but don’t call yourself a woman, and don’t lie to men about what you really are. Bruce Jenner aka Caitlin recently complained he can’t find a man that wants to be with him/her. There is a reason for that and it should be respected.

The problem today is that those who were bullied (all of us) think they can amend or change this by creating classes of people who are to be exempt from confrontation, exempt from competitors. Sorry life doesn't work like that. You get strong get focused by learning from the bullying or confrontation you had as a lad. Or lass. No way around it.

As a socioligy student, that is because it used to be such strong display of deviance. Now, it is less deviant due to the social norm being shifted away from the constant rule of cisgenderism. Yet cisgender is still the default standard because obviously no one is (born) transgender, it only comes once they recognize their desires and deviance. Given the more accepting conditions, transgenders have less fear to come out.

Sometimes ignorance is bliss... If Jazz truly came to terms with the truth of what happened to him (and the role his mother played in his condition), I fear he could never mentally recover from the emotional pain of the realization of his body being permanently disfigured and chemically altered. For Jazz to have a somewhat happy life, he might be better off just continuing to impersonate as a woman and embrace the role of an activist and TV personality.

And that's apparent in this case strongly. A child worries about childish things, not if they are male or female. CLEARLY SHE HAS BEEN COACHED AT A VERY YOUNG AGE. Rather large portion of trans women are neither "super feminine" nor attracted to men, and those who are generally don't romantically or physically engage them the same way. For that matter, a rather considerable portion of trans men are neither super masculine or butch prior to transition, nor attracted to women.
They probably can't answer your questions because you come across as too set in your ways to unlearn your false presumptions about them, and therefore pointless to try to engage on the subject.

Why does there seem to be more trans people than say, 15 yrs. ago. When I was growing up 60s, / 70 s we knew gays existed , as well as Bi and lesbians, and hermaphadites, now called intersexed. Growing up I knew an intersexed person, they were accepted as they were. But most did try to stay in the closet. But if you were observant " you knew " anyway. I had a gay cousin, he was gorgeous, I had a crush on him as a young girl, always will. I noticed in the late 90s it seemed to be the "in" thing to be gay, I am a nurse, and started seeing more gay men working as orderlies, which was unusual, as before that time the guys I worked with were straight. As in Very straight. And I knew a few gay men, who failed miserably at trying to pass as straight. But in the 90s it was as if all you saw even on t.v. shows their was always a guy friend that was Gay. It seemed like they were pushing an agenda. Like now they seem to be pushing a Trans agenda. Even in little kids, I've known plenty of what we called Tom boys, who knew who they were, and became good wives n mothers, and we've talked about how now, they could have been LABLED and convinced they were Trans. They are just THANKFUL it wasn't a Thing when they were young. Because it's easy to manipulate a child's mind. Just like there are only 2 sexes, unless you are born intersex.I don't know who started all this craziness, why make life more complicated than it already is. I have a Very close friend who is a lesbian, and even she feels like all this is crazy, especially with these new pro nouns, We All (in my circle of friends ) which includes gays, lesbians, and straight people, just hope ALL THIS WILL STOP. Especially the transitioning of young people/children using hormone blockers. Their minds, medically speaking aren't developed to Truly understand. The Brain isn't fully DEVELOPED UNTIL much later.. None of my friends were certain they weren't straight until 19 or 20, and most tryed to be straight dating the opposite sex, and that was when they knew for certain. Because it wasn't as accepted and some were from very religious backgrounds.

She says boys don't talk to her at school. She shouldn't get mad about it because it is their right, their choice of they don't want to have anything to do with her. Their parents probably warned them to don't have anything to do with a transgender girl because I'm fact she is not a real girl at all. She is a boy. His DNA is male which means Jazz is a boy. So she shouldn't mind when boys avoid her because they have their right to talk to who they want to talk to and who they want to avoid talking to the same way Jazz has the right to be who she want to be.

Around the 18:00 mark Janette gets busted in a lie. I read another article where a friend tried to get Janette to do a local news story about Jazz. Back when Jazz was 5 I think. And that Janette said she wouldn't do it. After some pestering by the friend Janette then said she would only do it if Barbara Walters did the interview because that would lend such validity to the story. Because, Barbara was so high profile the story would get told the way Janette wanted. Now she's on here saying Barbara Walters wanted to interview 5 year old Jazz. Sure Janette 👍 Sure.

I applaud the mother and father for supporting Jazz and allowing her to express who she truly was. There are many parents who could not accept their son identified as a female and would keep telling the child "no you're a boy" and not listen to their child's concerns and feelings and want what they, or society sees as "normal". There is undergoing research into gene variants and transgender identity, to identify that this is a mutation or some sort of marker in DNA that causes this effect. This may cause a good domino effect if its recognized as being truly genetic and perhaps insurance companies will cover these hormone treatments and surgeries for those struggling with feeling like they are trapped in the wrong body. I can only imagine how detrimental that can be mentally, these humans struggle with something not many people can understand unless they are also going through the same thing. Jazz is someone for younger children to look up to if they are also transgender. I think she is remarkable and has a thick skin and stands up for herself and the transgender community as a whole . I hope that she truly feels complete when she undergoes her surgery, if she hasn't already.

She expresses herself well but suffers from depression and she should be aware that not all is going to be roses. Since she went public she exposes herself more where a nation is still not accepting. Is it possible that Jazz would have been content living as a feminine boy? She certainly seemed happier and more content in that dressing up period when she was a small child. After all she didn't seem to be the one who initially requested the puberty blockers and medical transition path. How would she even have known about such things?
It appears the decisions around her gender transition were primarily driven by the recommendations and guidance of her family and healthcare providers, rather than her own urgent request for these treatments. And it's following on from the blockers and the surgery where all her problems, dilemmas and distress seemed to start. Either way I wish her as much happiness as is possible.
