      Paying 1000k for a 400-500sqft apartment is ridiculous in my personal opinion. This is Texas… not LA. And the prices are getting out of hand. For 1k a month, I have a two bedroom 2 bath apartment in the Austin metro. It’s not worth living in Austin honestly. All the transplants… the traffic… it’s ridiculous.

    Everything goes up except wages. Wealth inequalities are ridiculous

    • @ca8824
      @ca8824 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wages have actually gone up like 18% on average in the last 10 years. And over the last 50 years incomes have gone up for everybody including the poor. It's just gone up alot more for the rich and upper middle class. When we talk about the dwindling middle class the truth is it's less that middle class is going under and more so theyre going up but the working class isn't going up enough to catch up with the cost of high demand cities. So the options are to move to an area that's less in demand or get into a career track that accelerates - tech, marketing, corporate sales, finance, etc. Human capital is highly valuable when effeciently positioned. The people I do really feel like it's super hard for are those who aren't already in good careers but are saddled with primary caregiving responsibilities to children. America is a really hard culture to raise kids and build a career from the ground up. If you have to pick kids up at 3pm, how can you work until 5pm? America's version of capitalism is not the only version but its one that doesn't give a lovely crap about working and child-rearing. Probably because of our purititnaical religious roots. As a culture we have to transcend that - puritism is bigoted towards LGBT and tolerates slavery and a patriachial household. It doesn't help us lead out our best lives.

    I word of advice, which by the way has nothing to do with discrimination. I myself am of mixed race. Be very cautious with regards to who will be your neighbors. I am currently living near Indian computer engineering students. Ever since they moved in I have been having issues with my Wifi and computer network being hacked. Besides that, they like to save money and so they will fit about 4 people in a small 1 bedroom apartment. Which causes excessive noise at all hours. Additionally they like having phone conversations outside which usually tends to be in front of other tenants apartments which can cause a disturbance. When they use the laundry room they leave the clothes in the machines over night and do not clean up after themselves once they are done. Additionally, They are not very clean in general. Once a cat must have taken a dump near their front door and they never cleaned it up. This attacted flies in my home. It was a mess.

      The only reason Austin's rates are so low is because there is barely any work there. I'd only move there if your job doesn't physically require you to be at the workplace like an editor.
