I just want to say great job on this video. I was able to follow along easily and complete this process. Do you have any plans to make a video on how to reverse all these changes for anyone who may want to change their system back to what it was prior to modifying it using this video? Might be worth making just in case someone was to decide this wasn't for them after doing it. That way, they don't have fear bricking their system if it is possible.
@justinseyer4358 there is a section on the ISFShax website for uninstallation, pretty simple, You basically just have to delete the files and turn off the auto boot
@BelowAverageGaming do you happen to know if factory resetting my Wii U would brick it if I don't revert all these changes first? My external hard drive was working just fine, but then now it won't recognize it for some reason. I tried even using a fresh hard drive to see if the Wii U would format it like normal and it won't even recognize it either. Even tried a different known working enclosure and no luck, so I've narrowed it down to either my Y cable crapped out, or something in this process has messed up and so I thought about trying a factory reset and do the whole jailbreaking process from scratch. Any thoughts? I did order a new Y cable just in case to try first so I was just planning what to do next if that doesn't help.
@BelowAverageGaming ok, I followed the instructions to remove ISFShax and that seemed to resolve my HDD issue I was experiencing earlier so that is great. I think there should be a disclaimer added on GBATemp under those instructions stating if you added the auto boot steps to your SD you should remove that first. I removed the hax folder first and my Wii U about gave me a heart attack stating something like "vector missing" on a black screen making me think I bricked it 😬. I went back and removed auto boot and was able to complete the removal process lol

Thanks for another great Wii U mining video. I'm still holding out hope that one day they can just make a Wii U version of the USB loader GX that can launch from the Wii U title screen and it can somehow read both Wii U and Wii games so you can launch anything you want from one location.
If none of your games appears on Usb loader gx : you have to go to hard drive settings and turn sd card mode off, press sync fat32 fs info and then put game/install partition on fat32. Also make sure to be on the port 0 (the top port on the console)
THIS RIGHT HERE IS THE ANSWER!!!! if your drive gets formatted all the way just follow the steps from the comment above, it may freeze for a second or not respond but in less than a minute it should restart usbloader. After that do your paths to usb for covers and enable wii games to appear on the library. @roselinemwendo979 you are beast and a goat
This is cool but so much work and there is a chance you will brick your WiiU if something happened to your SDcard during the step where your system runs only from your SDcard. I'll just stick to injection for now. Might take a while, too many Wii and GC games in my collection, but the steps are simple and without serious risk.
Your Wii U won't brick if you lose your SD card lol If you lose your SD card you will be stuck booting into the minute menu every time you want to use your Wii U and there would be not much to do about that without an SD card. Which is why the step right after that I show you how to install it directly into your system which negates that worry altogether. All in all, if you're somebody who's doing this for the first time, this should be the preferred method
It won't brick, without the SD and without anything on the SLC, it will just boot to the Wii U menu like normal (but a little bit slower). And you can just continue with a new SD card, by putting the files back on.
I may convert to this method. Using Aroma I currently have a 1TB drive formatted for WiiU titles and a separate 1TB drive formatted for Wii. Wii hdd is connected to the back USB ports via a Y cable and the Wii HDD connected to the front two USB ports using a Y cable.
People usually do the opposite, using usb loader gx to load wii games on vWii (Wii menu) and HDD for the Wii U games, using WUP installer GX (with this you can choose where to install the games from SD card to the HDD or in the nand which is not recommended)

I believe you're right, instead of the USB partition patch.ipx there is another one that says SD partition patch. Interesting stuff! Might stress out the SD card though

It won't work.. I've just learned it the hard way. Bought a 5TB hard drive, only to find out that MBR is limited to 2TB, so everything above that will not be usable... What's the point of having a 5TB drive if you can only use 2TB? So I'll send it back and buy 2 separate 2TB drives instead. One that I will load with Wii U games, and another with Wii & GC games. The idea of having both Wii and Wii U games on the same drive becomes useless to me.
Not sure what you're talking about, but you can use a 4 TB drive and split it into 2 2TB partitions The Wii U doesn't read anything over 2 TB, pretty sure I mentioned that in the video somewhere. On top of that, five is just Overkill
Sorry but no, you cannot have 2 x 2TB partitions on a drive that uses MBR. Only the first 2TB will be usable. This is a limitation of the MBR partition table itself that you cannot get rid of. You have to use GPT to actually be able to use 2 x 2TB partitions (which is not supported by the wafel USB plugin), but you are right the Wii U won’t be able to use them anyway. What I finally did is buying a 2TB drive that I will split into two 1TB partitions so I know for sure it will work with no issues. I have Wii and GCB on a 2TB HDD for Wiiflow on the Wii and want to modify it for the Wii U. Based on this video, I have to partition it to format space differently for the Wii U. Any suggestions how to do this without losing existing games on the HDD? (They were added to the HDD using Wii and Gamecube backup manager tools)
@BelowAverageGaming That was my first thought- Since using tools were required to put the isos on the HDD, I wasn't sure if a temporary backup to the PC would cause issues to reformat the HDD.
No need to flip-flop drives if using USBLoaderGX, it works fine with Aroma and double drive setup. Wiiflow also works with double drive setup partially: I am able to load emulators but vWii games work only when WiiU drive is disconnected.
@vasjapupkin1710 with this tutorial now you don't need two drives, that's kind of the point. Depending on the drive you buy, you could be saving yourself $70 to $100 by just using one.
@@vasjapupkin1710 This is a known issue. It actually can work with both hdd (vWii and Wii U) plugged in, but there is a random issue where, depending on the harware ID of the harddrives, WiiFlow will sometimes choose the wrong HDD when launching games. For me I was able to see the games, but couldn't launch any Wii games (GHC worked fine). After swapping my 2.5 HDDs between the enclosures I was working, problem solved. It's random and super annoying, but just letting you know if can work in WiiFlow. Hopefully an update will fix the issue.

@@BelowAverageGaming Solved - When I initially installed aroma, I never downloaded the fw_img_loader payload - downloaded that to the SD card and viola. On to the next step. Hopefully this is helpful to anyone else that used a guide that didn't need it.
When you're talking about the WiiFlow tutorial, I assume you mean your video titled "The Best Wiiflow Tutorial You're Going To See"? It would run in the vWii part of the WiiU off the USB instead of the SD card? And lastly, I assume that playing GameCube game on the WiiU via WiiFlow wouldn't work due to missing hardware? Not sure, I've never encountered that issue. Perhaps some permission issues on your version of Windows? I haven't tried this but you could maybe try 1. Create the volume with a drive letter temporarily. 2. Once the volume is created: Right-click the new volume and select Change Drive Letter and Paths. Select the assigned letter and click Remove. 3. Confirm the removal. The volume will no longer have a drive letter. (Hopefully)

Hello, based on your video you said that you would have to wait 25 seconds to boot into Aroma. If I install do this mod will I have to wait 25 seconds every time I turn on the console with the minute menu?
I have it all working up until the minute boot sequence. I have the text file in, it has the correct text and everything, but I still can't get it to skip the minute menu. I don't know what I'm doing wrong!
When I load fw_img_loader I get the Wii U Menu Screen on never gets past there. On the small screen it’s the same but a random line of pixels. I checked and I have aroma updated.
When you hold the B button down and power on the system it doesn't take you anywhere? That's a built-in feature of the aroma custom firmware. If you're running aroma and that doesn't work, chances are your B button is broken or you need to press it harder
If I choose default it boots up and if I choose nanddump it takes me to that menu but when I try fw_img_loader it just boots but doesn’t do anything but the garbled pixels on 1 line on my Wiiu pad. The strange thing was I didn’t have fw_img_loader originally so I downloaded it and put it in the plugins.
1. why the nanddumper backup. It will be the same as the first backup from minute, only that it takes much longer 2. why format the hdd on the wii u first? If someone uses it for the vWii already, they might want to keep their stuff 3. if you leave settings, aroma won't load automatically, because you are still using the payload loader and not the payloader plugin. 4. why delete the small otp and seeprom backup, but keep the superblock and the much larger slc.raw on the sd?
1, because I was following the written guide and that's what it told me to do. 2, because not everyone is like you and has games on their hard drive already, some people are starting from scratch. Formatting it first. Lets you choose the partition style on the PC when you select it later. Either way, formatting the hard drive seems like a personal choice depending on the person. 3, I left the settings the way I did in the video and aroma seems to run fine for me, no issues 4, following the guide once again which makes no mention of deleting any of the files, didn't delete it because I didn't know I could. While the bin files, I knew I could.
I'm sorry to bother you man but i encountered two issues: Usb loader gx on vWii doesnt seems to detect the games, but on a normal wii, it does (same versions) Wiiflow lite works fine so i guess im gonna using that for now Second issue is when exiting Wii U settings the console reboot but it doesnt reboot in aroma (just turn off and on again fix this but its a bit annoying) Regard usb loader gx i ecountered many problem like slowness or gets stuck for some seconds when you use the settings menu or press the home button with the wii mote
Honestly, I use Wiiflow more than USB loader GX so as far as troubleshooting goes, I'm not really sure what you can do other than tinkering with the settings. You could possibly try downgrading your version of USB loader GX to see if it's more compatible with the hack but that would be my best guess As far as your second issue of it not rebooting into aroma, did you have aroma set to autoboot originally before you did this mod?
I'll try older versions but yeah wiiflow is great, for the second issue yes aroma was on auto boot, maybe i can check if is still the case? Thank you for your response!
I also have the second issue. I leave the Wii U settings and I end up booting into the base Wii U menu instead of Aroma. I don’t know how to fix it if there is a fix… Edit: When I leave the settings, the minute menu pops up, then the system boots me into the Wii U menu. I know I have aroma autoboot on, so that’s not the issue.

At the 9:45 mark Im not greeted with the minute menu. Instead it loads with a message that says "could not connect to the wii console. Please move the Wii U Gamepad closer...". Any ideas on how to get past this? Thank you
@@simonsays2159 He I am also stuck at this point. The wii u has a purple light. Gamepad and HDMI both don-t have a signal. Also the buttons on the wiiu dont work. I thought to be smart and do the steps with counting the number of times the power off buton... The moment I boot the wiiu without SD card the purple light is still there and boots in the wiiu menu. Any ideas how resolve this?
My Appologies. I needed to reboot a couple of times and wait a couple of minutes to reboot. Than finaly the minute menu was displayed on the hdmi signal.
at 14:38, mine does that, then goes to the next screen, but I get the wafle_core message (twice) about it not opening, then I get an exception 4 (data abort) and never loads the plugins. any suggestions? (I named the minute.ini file and copied/pasted what you had in the description to put in the file and made sure no extra spaces. my nand (mlc) backup never went through (one of the files would never copy over). I do however have the second and 3rd backups.
I just have to finish testing the vWii to see if this worked, at least I did pretty much all the steps and I only need to test 2 things, the SDCafiine plugin in Aroma AND the vWii side, which I have it ready with everything I have pretty much from another drive (which I probably I have to keep for my actual Wii, but I wonder if my Wii can use my WiiU drive without issues... most likely yes, because if that's the case... I can take advantage of my HDD to save stuff from my PC for backups and such), I'll edit this comment once I test the vWii side of things... especially if I want to use modded stuff for Smash Bros. Brawl as I have to switch SD to a 2GB or less card. Edit 1: I forgot to ask, is the last RAW file needed all the time on the SD drive?

I have the minute folder on the root, with the ini inside, with the correct text. However, when I boot the console, the minute main menu loads, and no autoboot into aroma happens. Any suggestions? Did you type it in yourself or did you copy and paste it into the file? Make sure if you pasted it in. There's no spaces before the first letter of the text. Make sure minute is spelled correctly for "minute.ini" Try deleting the file and recreating the file. Make sure you have autoboot already enabled on your console running aroma normally
Autoboot means when you turn your system on Homebrew is already enabled. Meaning you do not have to select the health and safety application when you turn on your console to get things started. Another gentleman that had this issue in the comments did not FTP the files correctly with filezilla and that fixed his issue when he realized that. Did you FTP things correctly?

I have followed your great tutorial and my wii u keeps deleting the W partition and when i plug the hard drive on my computer is just shows unallocated not raw, any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?
You're formatting your partitions out of order would be my guess. The partitions need to be done in the order that I've done them in the video, fat 32 partition needs to be created first otherwise the Wii U will just keep deleting it
@BelowAverageGaming I have done exactly how you have shown in the tutorial, I format my HDD on the Wii U, then plug it in my pc, create a partition, convert to FAT32, plug it in the Wii U, format and that is when I see that is has deleted the partition so I am stumped

How big is the drive? Can't be bigger than 2 TB Also, the formatting needs to be done IN ORDER how the video has it, FAT32 partition created first then the Wii U partition that gets formatted later Or else it'll just keep getting reformatted on repeat
I've gotten most things to work here but my problem is that my wii games kick back to the menu in WiiFlow and USB Loader gx goes to black. Weird thing is Wii U and GC games seem to work. Initially tried a samsung T7 which displays everything fine but wont boot Wii games. T5 isnt working either. I ordered the external HDD from the link with a y splitter and the Wii U isnt prompting to format the drive so I'm stuck at that step. Not really sure what to do at this point.
Sorry there's a lot here lol so your main issue is Wii games don't work? Steps to try, Make sure your Wii games actually work. Download the dolphin emulator and see if they load in that. If they work then your games are good. Secondly, you said you're using the Wii U? I would try doing the CIOS installer again if you haven't already : wii.hacks.guide/cios-vwii.html Lastly, in Wiiflow you can set your CIOS individually for each game. Try setting one of them to 249 and see if it works
I have the same problem with Wiiflow. Games show up but I can't start Wii games without returning to the Wiiflow menu. I have reinstalled all the cios. Tried to start the games with the suggested settings etc etc. But no. Uab loader gx works without a problem. But OK it will probably be something outside of my knowledge.
@@BelowAverageGaming Thanks for the response and sorry for my delayed response. I got frustrated and shelved this project. But I'm attempting again. Right now my main problem seems to be the Wii U will not recognize new USB devices or prompt to format. It could be part of the CIOS process or somewhere in the process borked something in the USB drive detection.
Have you actually tried to load WiiU without SD card? Mine is not loading in to Aroma environment despite installing all necessary plugins in to SLC . With SD card plugged in WiiU loads fine into Aroma.
I don't think it's supposed to load you into the aroma environment without the SD card. It's just supposed to make it so your Wii U works in general since without the SD it would just be looking for the minute menu when it's not there. This is for the people who lose their SD card because at least they will still have a functioning console until they recover their files. My best guess would be you would have to somehow install the payloader from aroma directly into the Wii U for that to happen the way you're thinking
@@BelowAverageGaming I used another version of USB Plugin to be able to use USB drive Fat32 partition as SD card replacement: wafel_usb_partition_sd.ipx. I followed instructions from corresponding gbatemp thread. Still no success.
20:50 Whenever I want to download a game via WUP installer it tells me missing sigpateches, but via nusspli I can download the desired game because I have the sigpateches, does anyone know a solution?

It was doing the same for me so I remove the "img" from the ios.img and superblock.img file, and then I just name the fw_encrypted file fw It worked for me so hoping that it'll help you !
And all of that only to have all games on one drive? Easier is to buy few micro sd cards, copy all cfw necessary files and make different sets for Wii games. I’m too lazy. And then remember all these things what is for what and so on. After not playing on Wii u for a year or so I have to recall how it all worked. I think powered usb hub is also a good way to extend number of usb ports and add second drive
The Wii U cannot read more than one USB drive. You can kind of get around that by using a plugin that hides the rear ports from the Wii U, and placing the vWii USB drive on the rear with the Wii U USB drive on the front or something to that effect. But as for using SD cards that's more cumbersome than this method, you set it up once and you're done. With SD cards you have to remove them each time you want to play a specific game.
Okay, I now remember the 2 tb limit. So a 4 tb partitioned should work? Also it doesn't explain why I couldn't partition the 5tb. But I'll try a 4 tb and see.

If your console just bootloops through minute over and over again, you are probably coldbooting Aroma and replaced the wiiu/payload.elf with the fw_img loader. short answer : NO. Long answer: yes, but it is a different tutorial differemt method. if you look into the gbatemp link on USB paritition, it also mentions about doing the same BUT for SD
Hi all, I dont know what I've done wrong but my HDD is not showing on my PC after formatting the HDD on the Wii U? I'm using a 2TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra I current dont have any other drives to test besides a 4TB Seagate any ideas or help please. If i go to the partition management i can see it there saying unallocated not sure what to do?

Did you put the correct fw.image on the SD card? I would make sure your folder structure is correct and all the files are in the right place. Worst case I would restart what you did. Make sure you're running aroma as well
Can anybody help, did all this and it worked. Then plugged my hdd into my computer to add 2 GC games onto the HDD. Usb loader wont show up any wii or GC games on the vwii side, nintendont will work for GC. So i can deal with that but ive no way of accessing my wii games
I haven't tried this, but you should take a peek around the comments because a lot of these issues have been covered To my knowledge somebody fixed it by Go to the hard drive settings and turn SD card mode off "Press sync fat 32 fs info" And then put the game/ install partition on FAT32. Again, I haven't tried this, but someone said this worked in the comments
As far as I can tell, I did everything right, but now my Wii U isnt dectecting my HDD. I did all the partitions and shit, but now its not letting me format it. What do I do now?
The fact that your PC can't partition. It shows that your Wii U did create that partition for it. Getting your drive to show back up is simple, just go back into device manager after it's plugged in and then delete that volume
it depends on the drive: if it has 4K sectors (and exposes them), then up to 16TIB are no problem. With the standard 512byte sectors you are limited to 2TiB per partition. But since the Wii U has a 300 title limite and the games aren't that big, you won't need so much anyway

When this happens it can mean either A. You didn't format the partitions in order. FAT32 should be created first and then the Wii U created second. If you did that then B. You missed a step and perhaps files aren't where they should be located.

the two partitions that you create need to be created in order, the FAT32 partition being the first one and the second one being the one for the Wii U. If it's not in that order, it'll keep deleting the FAT32 partition
@BelowAverageGaming I did that in order and it kept deleting for some reason. Every time I plugged it into the Wii U after creating both partitions, the console deletes both
@pockydreamer hmmm If that's the case and you were doing it correctly, then the only other thing I could think of is that the plug-in path for the USB partition isn't placed in the right spot

It appears hard drives over 2TB may not work, I haven't tested this myself but keep a lookout for that!
I just want to say great job on this video. I was able to follow along easily and complete this process. Do you have any plans to make a video on how to reverse all these changes for anyone who may want to change their system back to what it was prior to modifying it using this video? Might be worth making just in case someone was to decide this wasn't for them after doing it. That way, they don't have fear bricking their system if it is possible.
@justinseyer4358 there is a section on the ISFShax website for uninstallation, pretty simple, You basically just have to delete the files and turn off the auto boot
@BelowAverageGaming do you happen to know if factory resetting my Wii U would brick it if I don't revert all these changes first? My external hard drive was working just fine, but then now it won't recognize it for some reason. I tried even using a fresh hard drive to see if the Wii U would format it like normal and it won't even recognize it either. Even tried a different known working enclosure and no luck, so I've narrowed it down to either my Y cable crapped out, or something in this process has messed up and so I thought about trying a factory reset and do the whole jailbreaking process from scratch. Any thoughts? I did order a new Y cable just in case to try first so I was just planning what to do next if that doesn't help.

@BelowAverageGaming ok, I followed the instructions to remove ISFShax and that seemed to resolve my HDD issue I was experiencing earlier so that is great. I think there should be a disclaimer added on GBATemp under those instructions stating if you added the auto boot steps to your SD you should remove that first. I removed the hax folder first and my Wii U about gave me a heart attack stating something like "vector missing" on a black screen making me think I bricked it 😬. I went back and removed auto boot and was able to complete the removal process lol

If none of your games appears on Usb loader gx : you have to go to hard drive settings and turn sd card mode off, press sync fat32 fs info and then put game/install partition on fat32.
Also make sure to be on the port 0 (the top port on the console)

This is cool but so much work and there is a chance you will brick your WiiU if something happened to your SDcard during the step where your system runs only from your SDcard. I'll just stick to injection for now. Might take a while, too many Wii and GC games in my collection, but the steps are simple and without serious risk.
Your Wii U won't brick if you lose your SD card lol
If you lose your SD card you will be stuck booting into the minute menu every time you want to use your Wii U and there would be not much to do about that without an SD card.
Which is why the step right after that I show you how to install it directly into your system which negates that worry altogether.
All in all, if you're somebody who's doing this for the first time, this should be the preferred method
if the fw.img isnt found on the sd or slc, isfshax will patch the iosu fw.img and boot it
It won't brick, without the SD and without anything on the SLC, it will just boot to the Wii U menu like normal (but a little bit slower). And you can just continue with a new SD card, by putting the files back on.

I may convert to this method. Using Aroma I currently have a 1TB drive formatted for WiiU titles and a separate 1TB drive formatted for Wii. Wii hdd is connected to the back USB ports via a Y cable and the Wii HDD connected to the front two USB ports using a Y cable.
Personally I use the SD card for Wii games and an USB drive for Wii U games.
I read that some games can't do game saves etc on large cards, is that old info that no longer counts?

People usually do the opposite, using usb loader gx to load wii games on vWii (Wii menu) and HDD for the Wii U games, using WUP installer GX (with this you can choose where to install the games from SD card to the HDD or in the nand which is not recommended)

It won't work.. I've just learned it the hard way. Bought a 5TB hard drive, only to find out that MBR is limited to 2TB, so everything above that will not be usable... What's the point of having a 5TB drive if you can only use 2TB? So I'll send it back and buy 2 separate 2TB drives instead. One that I will load with Wii U games, and another with Wii & GC games. The idea of having both Wii and Wii U games on the same drive becomes useless to me.
Not sure what you're talking about, but you can use a 4 TB drive and split it into 2 2TB partitions

Sorry but no, you cannot have 2 x 2TB partitions on a drive that uses MBR. Only the first 2TB will be usable. This is a limitation of the MBR partition table itself that you cannot get rid of. You have to use GPT to actually be able to use 2 x 2TB partitions (which is not supported by the wafel USB plugin), but you are right the Wii U won’t be able to use them anyway. What I finally did is buying a 2TB drive that I will split into two 1TB partitions so I know for sure it will work with no issues.

Back up the contents you want from the drive before you format it, then reinstall back to the FAT 32 partition?

Yep! No way around that. The alternative is to just keep flip-flopping drives
No need to flip-flop drives if using USBLoaderGX, it works fine with Aroma and double drive setup. Wiiflow also works with double drive setup partially: I am able to load emulators but vWii games work only when WiiU drive is disconnected.

Depending on the drive you buy, you could be saving yourself $70 to $100 by just using one.
Depends: if it is Wii U formatted than yes. If t is setup for the vWii, you can just shrink the existing partition and create the second one.

It actually can work with both hdd (vWii and Wii U) plugged in, but there is a random issue where, depending on the harware ID of the harddrives, WiiFlow will sometimes choose the wrong HDD when launching games. For me I was able to see the games, but couldn't launch any Wii games (GHC worked fine). After swapping my 2.5 HDDs between the enclosures I was working, problem solved. It's random and super annoying, but just letting you know if can work in WiiFlow. Hopefully an update will fix the issue.

When you're talking about the WiiFlow tutorial, I assume you mean your video titled "The Best Wiiflow Tutorial You're Going To See"? It would run in the vWii part of the WiiU off the USB instead of the SD card? And lastly, I assume that playing GameCube game on the WiiU via WiiFlow wouldn't work due to missing hardware? Not sure, I've never encountered that issue. Perhaps some permission issues on your version of Windows?
I haven't tried this but you could maybe try
1. Create the volume with a drive letter temporarily.
2. Once the volume is created:
Right-click the new volume and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Select the assigned letter and click Remove.
3. Confirm the removal. The volume will no longer have a drive letter. (Hopefully)

When I load fw_img_loader I get the Wii U Menu Screen on never gets past there. On the small screen it’s the same but a random line of pixels. I checked and I have aroma updated.

That's a built-in feature of the aroma custom firmware. If you're running aroma and that doesn't work, chances are your B button is broken or you need to press it harder
If I choose default it boots up and if I choose nanddump it takes me to that menu but when I try fw_img_loader it just boots but doesn’t do anything but the garbled pixels on 1 line on my Wiiu pad. The strange thing was I didn’t have fw_img_loader originally so I downloaded it and put it in the plugins.

2. why format the hdd on the wii u first? If someone uses it for the vWii already, they might want to keep their stuff
3. if you leave settings, aroma won't load automatically, because you are still using the payload loader and not the payloader plugin.
4. why delete the small otp and seeprom backup, but keep the superblock and the much larger slc.raw on the sd?
1, because I was following the written guide and that's what it told me to do.
2, because not everyone is like you and has games on their hard drive already, some people are starting from scratch. Formatting it first. Lets you choose the partition style on the PC when you select it later. Either way, formatting the hard drive seems like a personal choice depending on the person.
3, I left the settings the way I did in the video and aroma seems to run fine for me, no issues
4, following the guide once again which makes no mention of deleting any of the files, didn't delete it because I didn't know I could. While the bin files, I knew I could.

I'm sorry to bother you man but i encountered two issues:
Usb loader gx on vWii doesnt seems to detect the games, but on a normal wii, it does (same versions)
Wiiflow lite works fine so i guess im gonna using that for now
Second issue is when exiting Wii U settings the console reboot but it doesnt reboot in aroma (just turn off and on again fix this but its a bit annoying)
Regard usb loader gx i ecountered many problem like slowness or gets stuck for some seconds when you use the settings menu or press the home button with the wii mote
Honestly, I use Wiiflow more than USB loader GX so as far as troubleshooting goes, I'm not really sure what you can do other than tinkering with the settings.
You could possibly try downgrading your version of USB loader GX to see if it's more compatible with the hack but that would be my best guess
As far as your second issue of it not rebooting into aroma, did you have aroma set to autoboot originally before you did this mod?
I'll try older versions but yeah wiiflow is great, for the second issue yes aroma was on auto boot, maybe i can check if is still the case? Thank you for your response!
I also have the second issue. I leave the Wii U settings and I end up booting into the base Wii U menu instead of Aroma. I don’t know how to fix it if there is a fix…
Edit: When I leave the settings, the minute menu pops up, then the system boots me into the Wii U menu. I know I have aroma autoboot on, so that’s not the issue.

My Appologies. I needed to reboot a couple of times and wait a couple of minutes to reboot. Than finaly the minute menu was displayed on the hdmi signal.
at 14:38, mine does that, then goes to the next screen, but I get the wafle_core message (twice) about it not opening, then I get an exception 4 (data abort) and never loads the plugins. any suggestions? (I named the minute.ini file and copied/pasted what you had in the description to put in the file and made sure no extra spaces. my nand (mlc) backup never went through (one of the files would never copy over). I do however have the second and 3rd backups.

I just have to finish testing the vWii to see if this worked, at least I did pretty much all the steps and I only need to test 2 things, the SDCafiine plugin in Aroma AND the vWii side, which I have it ready with everything I have pretty much from another drive (which I probably I have to keep for my actual Wii, but I wonder if my Wii can use my WiiU drive without issues... most likely yes, because if that's the case... I can take advantage of my HDD to save stuff from my PC for backups and such), I'll edit this comment once I test the vWii side of things... especially if I want to use modded stuff for Smash Bros. Brawl as I have to switch SD to a 2GB or less card.
Edit 1: I forgot to ask, is the last RAW file needed all the time on the SD drive?
As long as you backed up that last raw file, you can delete it

I have the minute folder on the root, with the ini inside, with the correct text. However, when I boot the console, the minute main menu loads, and no autoboot into aroma happens. Any suggestions? Did you type it in yourself or did you copy and paste it into the file?
Make sure if you pasted it in. There's no spaces before the first letter of the text.
Make sure minute is spelled correctly for "minute.ini"
Try deleting the file and recreating the file.
Make sure you have autoboot already enabled on your console running aroma normally

Autoboot means when you turn your system on Homebrew is already enabled. Meaning you do not have to select the health and safety application when you turn on your console to get things started.
Another gentleman that had this issue in the comments did not FTP the files correctly with filezilla and that fixed his issue when he realized that. Did you FTP things correctly?

You're formatting your partitions out of order would be my guess.

for some reason my hdd keeps fully reformatting ive done it over and over again but it stays formatted to the wii u the whole hdd not just part of it
How big is the drive? Can't be bigger than 2 TB
Also, the formatting needs to be done IN ORDER how the video has it, FAT32 partition created first then the Wii U partition that gets formatted later
Or else it'll just keep getting reformatted on repeat
Isn’t it that you can also use an ssd hard drive with a SATA cable so you don’t need to use a Y cable?

I've gotten most things to work here but my problem is that my wii games kick back to the menu in WiiFlow and USB Loader gx goes to black. Weird thing is Wii U and GC games seem to work.
Initially tried a samsung T7 which displays everything fine but wont boot Wii games. T5 isnt working either. I ordered the external HDD from the link with a y splitter and the Wii U isnt prompting to format the drive so I'm stuck at that step.
Not really sure what to do at this point.

Steps to try,
Make sure your Wii games actually work. Download the dolphin emulator and see if they load in that. If they work then your games are good.
Secondly, you said you're using the Wii U? I would try doing the CIOS installer again if you haven't already : wii.hacks.guide/cios-vwii.html
Lastly, in Wiiflow you can set your CIOS individually for each game. Try setting one of them to 249 and see if it works
I have the same problem with Wiiflow. Games show up but I can't start Wii games without returning to the Wiiflow menu. I have reinstalled all the cios. Tried to start the games with the suggested settings etc etc. But no. Uab loader gx works without a problem. But OK it will probably be something outside of my knowledge.
@@BelowAverageGaming Thanks for the response and sorry for my delayed response. I got frustrated and shelved this project. But I'm attempting again. Right now my main problem seems to be the Wii U will not recognize new USB devices or prompt to format. It could be part of the CIOS process or somewhere in the process borked something in the USB drive detection.
Have you actually tried to load WiiU without SD card? Mine is not loading in to Aroma environment despite installing all necessary plugins in to SLC . With SD card plugged in WiiU loads fine into Aroma.
I don't think it's supposed to load you into the aroma environment without the SD card. It's just supposed to make it so your Wii U works in general since without the SD it would just be looking for the minute menu when it's not there.
This is for the people who lose their SD card because at least they will still have a functioning console until they recover their files.
My best guess would be you would have to somehow install the payloader from aroma directly into the Wii U for that to happen the way you're thinking
@@BelowAverageGaming I used another version of USB Plugin to be able to use USB drive Fat32 partition as SD card replacement: wafel_usb_partition_sd.ipx. I followed instructions from corresponding gbatemp thread. Still no success.

20:50 Whenever I want to download a game via WUP installer it tells me missing sigpateches, but via nusspli I can download the desired game because I have the sigpateches, does anyone know a solution?
Everything worked well up until the point I try to launch a Wii game. When I start any game, it boots back into USB Loader GX. Any ideas how to fix?

Yo ive Done it twice now and each time i attempt to open the Fw img loader on the wii u it gets stuck on the wii u menu loading screen
Try grabbing that file from here and trying again

It was doing the same for me so I remove the "img" from the ios.img and superblock.img file, and then I just name the fw_encrypted file fw

And all of that only to have all games on one drive? Easier is to buy few micro sd cards, copy all cfw necessary files and make different sets for Wii games. I’m too lazy. And then remember all these things what is for what and so on. After not playing on Wii u for a year or so I have to recall how it all worked. I think powered usb hub is also a good way to extend number of usb ports and add second drive
The Wii U cannot read more than one USB drive. You can kind of get around that by using a plugin that hides the rear ports from the Wii U, and placing the vWii USB drive on the rear with the Wii U USB drive on the front or something to that effect. But as for using SD cards that's more cumbersome than this method, you set it up once and you're done. With SD cards you have to remove them each time you want to play a specific game.
Everything was working up until setting up hdd. Its not letting letting me set up the 2nd simple volume. Its greyed out. What do i need to do?
Did you create your first partition to big?
I just let disk manager split it in half. But I am using a 5 tb drive, is that the issue?

And the partitions have to be created IN ORDER like the video or it won't work
Okay, I now remember the 2 tb limit. So a 4 tb partitioned should work? Also it doesn't explain why I couldn't partition the 5tb. But I'll try a 4 tb and see.
You can use the 5tb, but you can only have two partitions that are 2 TB a piece. So you'll have one wasted TB of space

@BelowAverageGaming Im still having trouble getting this to work. I have all the files in the right places and at 10:15 in the video it boot loops to the minute menu. Is there anyway to fix this?
If your console just bootloops through minute over and over again, you are probably coldbooting Aroma and replaced the wiiu/payload.elf with the fw_img loader. Just replace the wiiu/payload.elf again with the Aroma one (applies to Tiramisu too).

Hi all, I dont know what I've done wrong but my HDD is not showing on my PC after formatting the HDD on the Wii U? I'm using a 2TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra I current dont have any other drives to test besides a 4TB Seagate any ideas or help please. If i go to the partition management i can see it there saying unallocated not sure what to do?
Right click the unallocated space and create a new volume

Yes you have to reformat the drive on the Wii U. If your console is freezing, then you most likely misplace a file somewhere

Did you already have autoboot enabled on aroma prior to this?
Try turning your console off, back on and trying again
What if I just partition the HDD without all the previous steps? I really didn't want to mess with the Wii U's internal files and I'd like to avoid it if possible

Minute makes the whole thing possible, If you don't do it, it won't work. If it worked another way I wouldn't have wasted my time

Did you put the correct fw.image on the SD card? I would make sure your folder structure is correct and all the files are in the right place. Worst case I would restart what you did.
Make sure you're running aroma as well

Then plugged my hdd into my computer to add 2 GC games onto the HDD. Usb loader wont show up any wii or GC games on the vwii side, nintendont will work for GC. So i can deal with that but ive no way of accessing my wii games

To my knowledge somebody fixed it by
Go to the hard drive settings and turn SD card mode off
"Press sync fat 32 fs info"
And then put the game/ install partition on FAT32.
Again, I haven't tried this, but someone said this worked in the comments

As far as I can tell, I did everything right, but now my Wii U isnt dectecting my HDD. I did all the partitions and shit, but now its not letting me format it. What do I do now?
Probably try to use AOMEI Partition assistant software for that.
The fact that your PC can't partition. It shows that your Wii U did create that partition for it.
Getting your drive to show back up is simple, just go back into device manager after it's plugged in and then delete that volume

I believe so! The partitions would have to be 2 TB each though and no higher than that
it depends on the drive: if it has 4K sectors (and exposes them), then up to 16TIB are no problem. With the standard 512byte sectors you are limited to 2TiB per partition. But since the Wii U has a 300 title limite and the games aren't that big, you won't need so much anyway

When this happens it can mean either
A. You didn't format the partitions in order. FAT32 should be created first and then the Wii U created second.
If you did that then
B. You missed a step and perhaps files aren't where they should be located.

@@VezixHaikalIf none of your games appears on Usb loader gx : you have to go to hard drive settings and turn sd card mode off, press sync fat32 fs info and then put game/install partition on fat32.
Also make sure to be on the port 0 (the top port on the console)

the two partitions that you create need to be created in order, the FAT32 partition being the first one and the second one being the one for the Wii U.
If it's not in that order, it'll keep deleting the FAT32 partition
@BelowAverageGaming I did that in order and it kept deleting for some reason. Every time I plugged it into the Wii U after creating both partitions, the console deletes both
