I love that you don't just Yassify the less experienced artists, but also elevate even some well defined pieces too, the personal twist really adds perspective on how their character comes across.
I loved the original art for the first one! Sam's was good too but I wish he had done more other than change the lightsource. (diff pose or angle etc.)

Tbh boa looked better before the yassefication , i feel like she had more character and a really strong expression that shows her strength, but on the other hand sam's boa looks kinda weak ,he focused on beauty more than character. Usually i like his versions much more, but i feel like this one was better before.
I agree, Sam usually does a great job. But here it feels like he drew her a little too much like his standard and it took away the grit and age Boa has in her original design. Her features are sharp when her owner draws her, but when sam drew her they all got smoothed out.
You have no idea how shocked I am to read these two comments. I’m the artist that drew boa and it’s crazy to read that some people preferred the original design!

Isn't that the point of "yassifying" though? His intention isn't to make a better piece, it's to make the character look more conventionally attractive. Unless I'm totally missing the definition of "yassifying". 😂
Boa totally looks more badass in the original. I'm glad Sam did this to bring attention to a pretty awesome artist and OC.

Boa the Barbarian honestly looked way more interesting in the original drawing, the dreadlocks were way more sophisticated, the face full of expressivity, and you've betrayed the harsh-masculine, hardened by life nature of the character's appearance, for a boring one thousand times seen soft look. This tendency to oversimplify and smoothen everything just needs to stop, exploit the full range of possibility, there is beauty in complexity and harshness. Those trendy yassifying videos are not useful, they impoverish art with reductive criterias.
I agree! I think those are some valid criticisms, not to mention I feel like there was some removal of important features of the character, like the shape of the nose and lips, and I feel like the original drawing had waaayyyy darker skin. Though I do think Sam knows about how he tends to lean towards more feminine soft looks in his style making him unintentionally create a “same face syndrome” it doesn’t necessarily mean his art is ‘bad’, but he’s addressed this fact and is trying to improve his art, which I think is very admirable.
Agreed. I want Sam to put more meat and flesh into his female faces and use bodily fluids like sweat and saliva.
i feel like the yassifying process is just him having fun with other people's oc's and isn't meant to be educational or aimed to better any of them.
ppl have different art styles, let’s relax, ppl literally submit their work for the purpose of sam recreating it like…

You could have kept Boa's skin as dark as it was. Your version makes her skin lighter than it really is even without lighting.
YES I thought i was overreacting she does look lighter! Also he got rid of her dark lips and wrinkles.
I was wondering if anyone else noticed that 😂 I drew boa and was wondering if he’d keep the scars or extra wrinkles I gave her in his yassification process
I noticed that too and I’m genuinely disheartened that no other comments talking about it.
I think the only major difference is that his technique of shading is a lot different and that he didnt give her two-toned lips that had a super dark top lip- which he REALLY should've done tbh
