  • @PhailRaptor
    @PhailRaptor ปีที่แล้ว +99

    The biggest shake-up for weather teams is that you don't have to commit hard anymore. You can splash a little weather onto a team that doesn't inherently relate to weather and do just fine. As opposed to previous generations where every Rain team, for example, needed both Politoad and Pelliper on it to be relevant. You also don't see switch-loops with each player swapping in their weather setter for no reason other than to change the weather.

    • @RollerdinoGaming
      @RollerdinoGaming ปีที่แล้ว +1

      perhaps something was different in the last couple of years, but during 2015 and 2018 this was just as true as it is now (poli+ludi in 2015, pelipper+swift swimmer in 2018)

    • @alextintyrn291
      @alextintyrn291 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reason you don't see switch loops is because weather isn't that popular at the moment. It's definitely good but not to the point where you can anticipate it to be on nearly every team you fight, so trainers don't need to play weather wars nearly every game. If weather keeps rising in usage, this tactic will start to get used more

    • @KrimzonKasper
      @KrimzonKasper ปีที่แล้ว

      You should try Cetitan, Florges and Abomasnow in doubles because Cetitan can protect itself while Abomasnow sets up the aurora veil then I would switch out Abomasnow with Florges because of the hidden ability Symbiosis. After Cetitan belly drum, Florges hidden ability will activate and pass on the item to Cetitan. I chose either Wide Lens or assault vest to pass on to Cetitan. Florges can learn pollen puff to heal up Cetitan. I gave Cetitan the fairy Tera type to give play rough more power. Originally I was gonna run ice tera Cetitan because of the ice shards but it’s not good enough. I might add Indeedee to the team since it can distract the targets while Abomasnow sets up the aurora veil.

    Swift Swim Beartic has also seen a lot of use this gen, and it’s pretty unique for being an Ice type rather than Water so it can fight bulky Grass types better than most rain sweepers. I’ve also seen a lot of them run Tera Water + Liquidation to take further advantage of the rain

    • @TunaBear64
      @TunaBear64 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tera Water Beartic is basically a bulkier and more versatile version of Floatzel
      Floatzel
      Pros
      -Can reliably run Adamant isntead of Jolly because of the better Speed
      -Nuke potential with Wave Crash (is stupidly frail, so losing 50% of your HP isn't a big deal)
      -Still able to outspeed things when Rain ends.
      Cons
      -As said before, is very frail so is screwed against double target and priority
      -No good coverage, best thing it got are Ice Spinner and Crunch (same power as Tera Blast) and Floatzel doesn't got a good Attack to use them.
      Beartic
      Pros
      -Actually bulky enough to survive a super effective hit, so isn't screwed a lot by double target and priority.
      -Wide coverage (Earthquake, Rock Slide, Close Combat) and really good Attack to make proper use of it, dont worry about hitting your teammate, Pelipper is immune to Ground. This also allows for more reliable Tera types.
      -Ice STAB without need to have Tera Ice, that's always a great thing.
      -While not having access to double STAB or Wave Crash, Liquidation still hits hard and you actually have options for Water resists.
      Cons
      -While doesn't fear priority or double target as much as other sweepers, Choice Scarf will be your worst nightmare.
      -100% Hopeless when rain ends.

    You know what's crazy... Sunflora is viable. 30 Spe making it great for Trick Room, and Solar Power to boost its damage output. 105 SpA is nothing to scoff at, even outside of Sun if it's running Life Orb. Torkoal under Trick Room with it is its best friend.

    • @joshuakim5240
      @joshuakim5240 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @Garren
      They're funnily kind of similar but are played in completely different strategies. Scovillain is a Sun speed sweeper (the literal only Fire type with Chlorophyll), while Sunflora is a sun Trick Room sweeper (Solar powered, 0-turn STAB Solar Beams hit like a nuke). So Scovillain is for Sun without Trick Room, while Sunflora is for Sun + Trick Room in tandem.

    Weather is super important on monotype too, since flutter mane is legal. Whether you're running mono fairy or mono ghost, you'll always have a prankster pokemon who can set up sunny day. Also speaking in low-mid ladder, mono ice is super popular right now, so being able to have your weather lead completely erase abomasnow's snow warning is huge

  • @keithhoward8232
    @keithhoward8232 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good analysis. Although for snow there are a couple things you left out.
    Biggest addition this gen imo is chilly reception on slowking. With that you don't even need abomasnow. You can run it bulky get the safe switch in & with regenerator on slowking.
    I also feel like you overlooked Frosmoth as a snow abuser with its access to Blizzard. The strongest spread movement that doesn't hit allies & it gets stab & under snow it has 100 accuracy. With ice scales & aurora veil it can be really tanky for special attacks especially after 1 quiver dance.

    Favorite weather is by default sand with TTar being my number 1 favorite in every gen but glad hes UU rn, it makes playing him feel more strategic than just being a wall that just had to avoid being punched lol the meta is so wishy washy and its actually amazing in a good way

    • @PolarisYun
      @PolarisYun ปีที่แล้ว

      It's my first real competitive experience so don't take my opinion too much into account, but i don't really like this meta. It's pretty stall, you really only see annihilapes that are a pain to deal with unless you carry gholdengo and predict their final gambit and trick room OU teams like Armorouge + torkoal, to mention something. You play 5 games online and you've played them all, even in low tiers x.x

    • @browserjunior4707
      @browserjunior4707 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PolarisYun For VGC meta games that’s kinda why you use hat experience to constantly update your teams. If you have troubles with scarf Annihilape, start leading Focus sash with a ghost type partner. That way they target into the dash, die, and you still survive.
      As for Gholdengo Wide Gurd is your best friend and if you really want it dead instantly then I recommend Flamigo. It’s the only notable fighting type with Scrappy this generation and many assume Costar being the main ability. If you do lead Fake Out with Flamigo as the partner you can get a lot of momentum against Murkrow + Gholdengo leads. Tinkaton is great cause of Mold Breaker Fake Out

  • @piratebear3126

    I’m focusing on 3v3 singles right now, but in Singles people are sleeping on Slowking for a Snow teams. It gets a new signature move called Chilly Reception that sets Snow then switches. In Singles this lets you take a hit with Slowking, set Snow, switch into Cetitan, and get Slowking’s Regenerator off all in one turn. Plus I still have Slowking set up as a wall breaker with Tera Water, Choice Specs, and Hydro Pump.
    Why Slowking gets a signature Snow move I have no idea, but it’s a welcome one in Singles.

    If I were to say which weather teams are the strongest. It’s a tough call. They all have pros and cons. But sun and rain is probably the 2 best because they weaken it’s counterpart’s weather boosted moves. Rain is mean for fast KOs and Sun is kinda meant for slower KOs. Also more abilities use the sun.
    Sand is better for slow bulky teams and maybe evasion boosts with sand veil garchomp to just kinda live.
    While snow now gives a def boost to ice types, giving them some bulk. Snow is a bit more of a way to deal with other weathers. Not really trying to abuse the snow.

    My favorite weather is a strange question because I never really thought about it. I think My favorite would probably be sun. The other ones are so monolithic in the types of Pokémon that greatly benifit, (only Ice, only water+beartic+fire-weak, only a smaller selection of rock/ground/ steel and small array of abilities and effects) I think sun is the most fleshed-out weather in terms of available mechanics, followed by rain. Snow and sandstorm Id both like to have a few more interactions the way thunder, hurricane, blizzard, solarblade, and moonlight have, and a few more interesting abilities than only copy paste speed and leftovers abilities. Sand force is good, but I mean creative the way harvest is creative, not the way leaf gaurd is boring.

      There's breaking swipe which makes the snarl opposite, deals 60 damage to both enemies and lowers atk 1 stage, dragon type, but sadly isn't a common move and now gen9 even less mons have it. I guess crippler bulky Mew will come back with icy wind, snarl and breaking swipe to keep cutting stats on each turn. But agree chilling water would fit better than a dragon type move and it is more common

    So this something I noticed when I was looking for water type to use in tera raids.
    There aren't many options for special attacking water types. Like let's draw a line at 100 sp atk. (We can make an exception for pelipper because drizzle makes 95 sp atk perfectly adequate.)
    By this metric, there are exactly 7 currently legal, decently strong, special attacking water types.
    Nearly all of them have something that makes unideal. Clauncher's stat spread is pretty bad, tatsugiri's(the one I'm using rn) isn't that much better, rotom wash only gets one water move this gen, Slowking and Slowbro are right on the line at 100 sp atk which is still not that strong, and pelipper's rain can be changed or will simply stop after a bit. Probably the best all rounder is Vaporeon, I just picked tatsugiri for it's better defensive typing and slightly better sp atk.

    Man I really wish Cryogonal would get Snow Warning as a buff. Mon genuinely has ridiculous bulk after Veil and hits a pretty good speed Tier at 105. Would be an interesting shake up imo

    • @atlat412
      @atlat412 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I personally like running a combination of Abomasnow and Cryogonal. Cryogonal is the third fastest Aurora Veil setter in the gen currently, just behind Froslass (with middling stats in my eyes) and Iron Bundle (oh god that monstrosity when it is legal), and benefits the most from snow's defensive boost. Plus, it gets moves like Haze or Freeze-Dry which if the current meta has shown anything, it's big fish and clothed crows. I also think Levitate is pretty good on this Pokémon especially since tera-electric blast and freeze-dry only have the Magnemite line to worry about right now. Would Snow Warning be an amazing buff? I mean, the snowflake mon setting up snow just makes sense. Should it get it? With a movepool like Cryogonal's, anything is a nice addition.
      Good Cryogonal moves in my opinion:
      Freeze-Dry
      Ice Beam/Blizzard
      Flash Cannon
      Tera Blast
      Ice Shard
      Aurora Veil (Reflect/Light Screen to a lesser extent)
      Chilling Water
      Haze
      Snowscape and Frost Breath could also be useful depending on the team (I had a lot of fun with a Crabominable team at one point), but still. It's quite predictable once you know what it can do. Doesn't mean it isn't one of my favorites though.

    You didn’t mention Hisuian Lilligant! I’m super excited for it, it’s just Lilligant with slightly higher attacking and speed stats (they pulled the stats from its Sp. Att. so nothing of value is lost). Victory Dance is just physical Quiver Dance. It has access to all the same support moves as well as Ace Kick, Close Combat, Ice Spinner, Brick Break, Arial Ace, Poison Jab, and Facade. It’s just better Lilligant.

    I'm trying out Barraskewda in rain. While Floatzel is stronger with Wave Crash I find he's very reliant on rain and all his boosts. Skewda works well, is quite fast outside of rain and can get KOs with super effective Liquidation and CCs. The bulk on both are so bad that Sash gives much more longevity on this paper thin sweeper.
    I'm really wanting to try Stalwart because I already have 2 speed controllers on the team, Mental Herb Pelipper being one and being able to ignore Amoongus and Maushold's aggro sounds nice. Anyone try it?
    Also I love Houndstone-Ttar. People sleep on all the support moves that Hound gets, Sand Rush Howl I really have fun with boosting himself and Ttar's attack to flexibly decide who to twra with that boost. Speaking of tera, Play Rough tera fairy Hound is the best fairy attacker this season so far.

    Before I watch the vid: best weather team clearly has to be electric/fire with the amount of love electricity has been getting over the past 3 gens its undeniable that it clearly is standing somewhere at the top 2, with the types generally high speed, high attack builds you are more likely to get the drop on enemies, especially with regileki, and tapu koko, as well as alolan raichu, the threats gonna be real for anyone without a solid ground type mon to resist damage and only trick room will help you, gonna be harder with the new terra forms, but fires got its spot too, while rain dance teams are clout af, I feel like fire just does it better, while being able to kill more of its not very effective opponents with solar beam, as well as the new grassy terrain, with sunny day working in tandem, would probably be extremely stacked, the speed and sleep power potential with the ability chlorophyll, and the damage fire can put out, that’s a dirty team, but electric team squashes it, but then I’d go rain dance, sand storm even though it has a lot of fricken potential with its cracked side ability of sp def boost, but then I guess fairy field and then snow or something. (Also elec team gets crushed with groudon but most people wouldn’t need me to tell them)

    Weather in this generation is really weird in general not just in VGC, in Singles as well weather feels very off, like you very rarely see more than one Swift Swim user in Rain teams due to the lack of options (whereas you could run both Barraskewda and Seismitoad previously, doing both Barraskewda and Floatzel really does not work as well), Sun basically does not use any Chlorophyll Pokemon and mainly just boosts Chi Yu's attacks and it's a good boon for the Protosynthesis mons, and Sand is completely nonexistant (and Snow as well but prior to gen 8 that wouldn't qualify as weird at all).
    I am really weirded out by the way weather is present in Gen 9 in the early stages, it feels really unnatural and not at all like Weather
