The “W” in the rod model name is a somewhat cryptic notation for the model year. 2023 W; 2022 Q; 2021 N; 2020 R; 2019 Y; 2018 V; 2017 E; 2016 J; 2015 K; and so on.
EXCELLENT
For any anglers watching this video wondering if these Japanese ultralight rods are worth it? I bought a presso air ags ul and paired it with 24 airity. Put on 2.1lb varivas with 3 lb flour leader and I have never had more fun catching 6-11 inch bluegills and crappies. The sensitivity and rod power make panfishing AMAZING.
There there!
Darn it. I need to finish my project. I wish I wouldn’t have clicked on this yet. I’m going to be disciplined and go finish and come back. This will be a first.
Go finish your project man! :)
I am hooked on Daiwa!
Thanks for sharing Victor.! Richie.
Nice review! I share the same taste with the more moderately fast extra ultralight. Really hoping the 6'2" Belleza fits in that category. Can't wait for that review!
Too late for the belezza. Word got out and sold out
But yes, moderate fast SUL and has great length
@@ifishcatfish I saw that. Snooze ya lose. Maybe the next batch if they don't "remodify" anything..
Both are a little out of my price range right now, but I always enjoy learning. If I had to choose for myself, I would definitely agree with all of your thoughts, and get the Presso.
One day!
Get the Bellezza UX, it’s much more cost effective and I swear it’s such a nice rod. I have it paired with my 21 Presso reel.
I think the Presso should be the better rod but it’s just so much. The Bellezza is less than half the cost depending on the model.
Enjoy all your honest and to the point reviews. Your reviews help me decide on what to buy or try for the money. What Japanese company do you use to buy products from. I'm wanting to buy the Daiwa Legalis 2000 model. Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately i dont tecommend shops any more because people get reels with defect and then it looks like my fault..
@@ifishcatfish I understand. So now I'm trying to decide on the 2000 s-p or the 2500. Going for crappie and small bass.
Best rod I've tested so far tip still sensitive for its size
Different kind of beast.
Gekkabijin are offshore/LRF rod, that's why they had ajing, egi etc variant and comes from at least 6 to 9f+
As shore rod It's need to be stiff enough to provide sharp lure action in the sea and power to throw the lure.
I had 8.3mh-t version and use it from as small as mackerel with 4gram tict m float setup to 10lb barramundi with 5g jighead
good info
another great video or comparison..I love your subtlety and precision and that's what I strive for.
if we are talking about UL fishing, what is the last limit of casting weight: 5 or 7 grams? that's where the "spear" breaks around that discussion...
For this rod? U can cast 7 but will be heavy. The tip is actually not too stiff. Up to 5-6 grams would be comfortable
@@ifishcatfish not for that fishing rod. I mean in general. where does the UL to L classification stop in terms of casting weight? is it 5, 7 or some other grammage?
i am not sure... haven't given it much thought..
If I remember correctly you said some of the same things about the Soare XR e.g. it's like a bass fishing rod etc... Maybe a comparison of the two?
Well.. i cant compare it with all of my rods. Also soare is totally different. Most people have to chose between the two ags offerings from daiwa as on paper they look the same
Actually, that is the Japanese PE standard "GOU", you can find a chart that converts the GOU number to diamter and suggested load, "#" is not "pound", it means number
good then!
u should try getting a nano jigging rod from like crazy fish, its a xxul type of fishing
Its pointless. I contacted them last year. Shipping is like 50 dollars. Also the rod is inferior to japanese rods as they buy shelf components from the market. They dont make anything. But even if i liked the rod, u cant ship it here so whats the point.. just to tease people?
@@ifishcatfish good point i just knew what it was
Have you used any kastking kestrel rods? I know you like the kestrel reel (which i thibk ill pick up, I found one for $70), but now I need a pole to go with it. Something on the cheaper side so if I break it while I'm hiking it won't ruin my day
Daiwa Presso, if u can find one, or Shimano SensiliteA
Boy o Boy, I should have been aware of what I wished for Victor? $367 smackers for the Daiwa GEKKABIJIN AIR 68L-T - W. 😳 I’m going to miss her!!! lol 😂
I'm curious why you say fast taper is just bass orientated. It's like you are not considering ultralight species overseas. What about LRF fishing for example? You still was to use 1g lures but a slow taper and action makes it not ideal.
I'm glad at the end of the video you more or less addressed this. In Australia some people fish the bottom in very shallow water from a boat casting at the shoreline (saltwater typically) and bottom contact is and sensitivity it key.
well im talking about my world. In my world only bass anglers need this kind of rod. I don't know anything about saltwater fishing...
Hey Victor,
Any need for me to open up the 21 Presso reel to make it feel any better or no need and just keep fishing the way it is? I’m going to order today for some jigs and grease but seen the tool on your site also so have it in my cart.
U can open the side plate in the winter and dab a little grease in the gears and thats it. Nothing else
@@ifishcatfish thanks Victor
Can we talk about tackle stuff and social media groups in the comments? Trying not to break any rules etc but wanted to talk about some things lol
what rod for shad fishing? I need to cast a 3/4oz weight as far as i can, I prefer a light weight rod around 6.6-7' long
I have never used such equipment
What do you think the minimum and max lure of the air ags 61l is?
1 to 3 grams. U can probably go higher but it will start to get heavy. U will also cast my ECOLITE 0.75 jigs absolutely fine and good distance.. but it will be Easier and Softer to cast the ECOLITE jigs with the XUL
Thank you so much ❤ . .. someone who have Evergreen Superior Solid Tip SPRS-610UL-S Limber Tip SS this rod please send to him for review ... so many pro fisherman's using this .
Im ready :)
How these 2 rods compared to the Shimano Soare SS rod?
Soare is more beautiful and more comfortable but a bit less sensitive. The presso air ags is more flexible and enjoyable for playing fish
G’day Victor, nice review. Neither of these rods come close to your Soare in aesthetics. As with the PE line diameters PE 0.1 = 0.053mm, PE 0.4 = 0.104mm
Yes, soare xr much prettier tod, but these ste lighter and more sensitive. Pe braid diameter to me is absolutely meaningless metric. It should be deleted from all rods because it doesnt mean anything and it just confuses people. Everyone thinks that the strength of the line has something to do with safety of the rod and this is just idiotic. I can snap the tip of the rod with a bluegill if u dont know what u doing. Line recommendations only tell u that line thicker than that will not go through the guides. Thats it
I think the line strength is just a guide. Experience tells us when a rod is fully loaded and we only get that by putting in the hours on the water. I like having the line weight & PE ratings printed on the rods as it gives me a good idea on how the rod will perform with their given actions
What is that red line on the Vanford?
Some ester from Varivas but i don't remember their names
@@ifishcatfish ahhh red eye. I’ve been wanting to try ester but I heard you need a leader?
@@dontdoxmebro1780 u need a leader every time u use red or orange line, it has nothing to do with ester. Ok, it has a little to do with ester : )
Sold out minutes after you sent the email or I would have snagged instantly
I think it will come back. Save link in favorites
@@ifishcatfish which vanford you think for it? 500 or 1k
JDM - Japanese domestic market
thats right. Which is NOT the same as Made in Japan.
Will the Yamaga rod be good for my vanquish 23 1k? I plan on fishing trout in creeks. Maybe throw some swimbaits and bottom jiggin.
i would pair the 1000 Vanquish with a Super Ultralight power rod. The Yamaga is Ultralight and just a bit big and heavy for that super finesse reel. It is more for the 2000 size vanquish
@@ifishcatfish you think the presso air ags would be better?
@@Skkj0802 except the colors wont match. Maybe something from Olympic Graphiteleader
