  • In Part 6 of this mini-series, veteran entertainment industry artist, Nathan Fowkes, relates to Bobby how attention to the fundamentals and constant practice shaped his career. His steadfast painting exercises that he could never skip led him to simultaneously working at both Disney AND DreamWorks, which led him to teaching all over the world. Nathan credits this career trajectory to his masterful fundamentals and constant training. Spoiler alert: he tells Bobby, if he slacked off once, he could slack off again, and quickly, his dreams would die. Nathan wanted to do art more than anything -- even sleep! In return, art has given Nathan the world and it can do the same for you!

    Really like Nathan Fowkes. Not too many genuine artists are so sharing of their growth and insights in the world of illustration and design. I thank him for his selflessness and good advice.

    The part where he shows the keycards and he's like "I did it" was so heartwarming and inspiring. Ended up with a huge smile on my face seeing that

    Super inspiring especially as someone that always feels torn between “fine art” and commercial art.

      @Keep Rocking! I absolutely love Marco Bucci's videos! Another fantastic artist I've found recently who does amazing critiques is Istebrak - been learning a lot from her too. I realize there's a lot you can learn from youtube, but I really want next year to be my learning year with courses such as the one about light, painting, etc. I want to give back to this amazing community of professionals. Plus learning from Nathan Fawkes and other legends fires me up just thinking about it.

      @@BobbyChiu Thank you for the reply! I realize the sale is on right now but unfortunately I cannot grab it. Will be looking forward to future sales when I'll be able to afford it. Have a wonderful day ahead!

      @Keep Rocking! I'll have to check Ty Carter out. He's the only one from the artists you've mentioned that I don't know of yet. With Marco Bucci, I love his teaching but I really want to find courses that are hours long and slowly build from simple shapes/colors to the more detail. He is great for learning about concepts but I love courses like Aaron Blaises' ones for animation and animals (bought a couple of packs from different subjects, loved them all). I didn't mean just Nathan Fawkes classes but in general schoolism classes such as the one from the guys from Tonko House about color and light. Honestly I learn a lot from even observing so if Nathan has a lot of processes of paintings, I enjoy those. To each their own, I value your opinion and at the same time we may have different ways of studying. Thanks for giving me a couple of new names to search for and I hope you have a wonderful day ahead. :)

      Thank you! and sorry for the "guy", yeah right I will have a try on these. Lighting being the hardest for me.

      @ramyahegde 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fabrice Willmann haha, no worries. :) Yes, lighting and colour can be tricky. But if you want to invest in an online class, I highly recommend schoolism's Robert Kondo and Dice Tsutsumi's class. Also Marco Bucci's TH-cam videos are a goldmine. Good luck! :)
