  • Welcome to Panonnia Metal Detecting!
    After 12 days break from detecting due to rain and bad weather, we are finally back on the field, and i have decided to visit some of my old fields, where I have in the past found many amazing stuff.. Well I can only say, there is a solid reason why I keep returnig to my old fields after some agricultural works, and that reason is these fields always provide amazing finds! This trip was no exception: couple of coins, one of them AMAZING silver coin of emperor Antoninus Pius, and many roman artefacts was result for today, but who knows what else this field hides!
    As I mention in almost all of my videos, all these items go to museum according to the law of cultural goods of Croatia!

    Hy friend, 3:00 you are getting better at attribution, it is definitively a coin of Trajan (IMP CAES NERVA TRAIANO AVG GERM, etc.). He was adopted by Nerva, therefore he also used Nerva's name. Congrats on that absolutely GORGEOUS denarius of Antoninus Pius! This is his very first issue at the mint of Rome as Augustus, AD 138, a scarcer coin. Antoninus was also adopted (by Hadrian) and included Hadrian's name in the obverse. He was consul for the first time under Hadrian, and this coin advertises that he has been designated consul (COS DES II) for a second term, next year (AD 139).

      When this kind of comment comes from You my frend then I know I build some knowledge about roman coins.. about Trajan coin, i saw NERVA legends, but bust seemed bit off, despite bad condition, but i manage to find it. And denarius is amazing yes, also bit confused by legends on the field, but I was able to find when I research it bit back home. Thank You and all best amigo!

    Wow, I have a Fibula that is EXACTLY the same as the one at 5:40. From my research these can be attributed to military sttlements :) And what a spectacular bare bust Antoninus Pius!

      @MD_Panonnia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice to hear You have exact item, when You consider that we are on separate parts of empire 😊 I dont know if that is military related, I have found them MANY over the years, and if you think of that Panonnia was frontier province of empire, it's not completely off to be part of military robes! Keep up good with your channel!

    That Denarius is spectacular! Good to see your Roman conquest continuing.
    I have only ever found one and it was as shiny as yours out of the ground, however its surface around the jaw was damaged to reveal a copper core. Not sure if it was debased deliberately by the Emperor Vespasian or whether the moneyer was up to no good. We shall probably never know.

    • @MD_Panonnia
      @MD_Panonnia  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well first, thank You for nice and encouringing comment, and second about Your coin, I belive its not coin makers fault about that coin, he was probably been working on orders he got, I dont belive he would do it himself, when you could lose head for much less in roman empire, and making bad imperial coins was big thing I would guess 😊 glad You enjoy the video, all best!

      Your Coin was a Fourée, Which means it's a Fake Coin made in Ancient Antiquity (aka back _In_ the times of the Roman Empire) using most likely Stolen Coin Dies to Pass off as a Real Denarius, Vespasian's Denarii were of Really Good Silver with him being one of the 1st 12 emperors of Rome and all so it had to be an Ancient Fake, cause Debasement only started to get Really bad after the death of Commodus, when Septimius Severus Debased the Denarius from around 75% Silver (The Purity of Marcus Aurelius and Commodus' Coinage) to Just 57% silver. I do a Lot of research into roman coins cause coin collecting's almost always been a passion of mine, even tho i got my first and so far only Denarius just last year, i plan to buy another for Christmas this year, hope my info helped in some way :)

    13:00 Nice Antonius Pius denarius (for me, not Hadrianus) ;) congratulations, but once again, please when you reveal a clear silver coin, dont "finger" it in order to remove dirt on it , use water, they are so warm/weak when they came out from the ground, because that will cause scratchs.

    • @MD_Panonnia
      @MD_Panonnia  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank You for comment and suggestions, I know about that, and I can understand it from numismatics point of view, but all of these go to museum, and I belive that these possible small scratches made by me will not effect overall historical value of this coin in the museum. But I will work on properly threating coins I find, thank You!
