Delightful work Filip and Mårten! Thank you for bringing attention to the far lesser known era of pre-Qājār music. There was once a time when the Turkish, Iranian and Arabic traditions overlapped far more. The blurred lines between Ottoman and Iranian melodies, the universality of the Oud, and the fact two non-Iranians rendered this piece as well as any Iranian; all those small details are reminders of our universal connectedness, all in this one video.
That was awesome. I wish TH-cam had a repeat button so I could play this over and over again. It makes long for a time and place that I don’t know but somehow feel nostalgic for.
Hi Philip, been following you both here and on the main channel for quite a while now. Not enough words to actually express my gratitude for the amazing contents you brings us. My son, not even 2 months old, simply fell in love with this song ❤
There is also some research done by Farhad Fakhreddini (Iranian composer) on Maraghei's works. Also, I read somewhere that named Mehdi Qoli Kahn Hedayat (musician and prime minister of late Qajar period) had notated some if his works.
Nice job. It's very significant especially coming from the Iranian musical tradition. I grew up thinking we didn't have any records of pre-qajar music but learning about maraghi some years ago through the Ottoman tradition was very enlightening.
He's pretty well known in musician circles and music fans mostly know him because Shajarians(Muhammadreza an Homayoon) has always spoken highly about him.but as you said he's is more known inTurkey.@@FilipHolm
@@FilipHolm he's more well-known now that he was before Homayoun Shajarian came out with an album of his works. It was a very special project. Prior to this most musicians would not have known.
Thank you, Filip. Your music is so moving. Futhernore, I want to acknowledge you in what you share with our world with your education. Many blessings to you, your family, and your friends this holiday season. 🙏❤️🌍🌎🌏🌿🕊🎵🎶🎵💫✨️💫
Amazing work, Filip! Abdul Qader Maraghi is definitely one of the most interesting and influential characters in the history of world music. He not only shaped the musical landscape of the Ottoman empire, but also Iran and Central Asia. His theorical writings on music canonized the courtly musical culture of Late Medieval and Early Modern Islamicate world. On another note, I'm curious about your personal thoughts on his music. His pieces are unusually melodic for the period, even to the point of sounding somewhat modern!
Great job, man! Sounds great. I recognize this melody as one i learned in a class on Turkish makam, under the Makam Rast section, but didn't realize it was of Persian origin. Of course, many of these traditional melodies are known and played by Arabs, Turks, Armenians, Persians, Greeks-- all of the region. Glad you gave the historical context after, really helps enrich content like this for fellow nerds like me! Your channel is great, and I'm amazed you have such a wide audience with such a relatively obscure musical focus-- keep it up, brother!
Born orthodox Christian in Romania, I want to convert to sufism. These videos make me fall in love with the mysticism and esoteric rhythms of sufi music even more.. Love you Let’s talk religion guy!
@alexiaexnihilo these are high spiritual meanings that are not grasped even by the majority of Muslims. Some things are understood by our spirits after being freed from obscurity. Mind can achieve great things but is always stuck in a limit. That’s why philosophers don’t surpass a certain boundary and are perplexed about the reality.. May the One and the real guide us
Your instrumental interpretation delighted and brightened my morning, Filip. Had a quick delve into Abd al Qadir al Maraghi on the web as curious at your mention of his system of musical notation. As you mentioned, what an extraordinary creative and scholar he was. Perhaps you would like to enlighten us further, one day. 😊
Brilliant thank you for opening another world of music tradition. I listened to music from a concert in Morocco just brilliant as we can do this on my phone. I was fascinated as a child with an old short wave radio listening to far away stations. I've no musical education at all which is a great advantage. Thank you for posting greetings from Yorkshire.
Amazing music, thank you for bringing to life such a classical piece! I am a long-time follower of your main channel, and was glad to discover that you do music. I loved your song Gralstänk, and have been listening to it in a very difficult part of my life. Thank you for adding beauty and knowledge to our world!
Thank you a lot Dear Filip for the amazing work you do. I am an Iranian and a music Lover who loves both Iranian and European classical music, and jet I did not know that we had a note alphabet and surviving songs as ancient as this. 👏👏👏
Lovely tune, beautifully played. And very nice camera work, setting, lighting, everything about the video. Top-flight. Thank you for sharing these with us, & so glad I belatedly stumbled on this channel after long following your main one. All the best for your holiday season.
Make an episode about how and why you became interested in Middle Eastern culture and music. I'm really curious! Btw your channel is one of the greatest things I've ever found on internet!big fan
Music says exact Persian Text , I am an Iranian Azari , almost over 60% of Turkish vocabulary is Persian. Please do not distort the truth for the sake of pan Turcic .
Damn! I feel a little ashamed that as a Persian I had no idea that this piece existed and I had played Persian instruments for years. Thanks for the beautiful performance and also for the cultural reminder. Also I managed to find a another performance with the words for those who want to listen to the Persian original: th-cam.com/video/G0EXyKRChGc/w-d-xo.html
It was a true pleasure to bring this piece to life together with you, Filip.
Thank you!

There is a loop option in settings 💓

Thank you for this video
Because it reminded me of the old days when I used to listen to this on radio ❤
In Persia we don’t say wow! We say Pashmam and here I would scream Pashmam!!! Brilliant 🤩
Thank you! 🙂

I think they are fantastic! And I agree that they are very melodic and "simple"/accessible in a lovely way.

I always thought that that theme and that way of playing was turkish but now I feel happy to know that it is persian
Listening to this reminds me Ramadan. This kind of music plays often in religious shows, series, even in ads in Ramadan in Turkey.
Born orthodox Christian in Romania, I want to convert to sufism. These videos make me fall in love with the mysticism and esoteric rhythms of sufi music even more..

search for shaykh Ahmad Dabbagh. He is an English speaker and a living sufi like the real ones of old times...
@@abuQosayOMG THANK YOU!!!!!! Would love to understand sufism better! I already read Rumi and did a bit of research on Abn Arabi’s mystical views.

Actually this beautiful song composed by Abdulqader was preserved within Turkish Music and we Iranians were not aware of it up to recent years.

Nesim means "gentle wind" or breeze in Persian. The title means "here came the morning breeze."
