Good News everyone! When you do this, it does show messages from the printer when your ink or toner are low. So you do not have to install any other apps.
It didn't work for me!
It says "printing" put nothing comes out from the printer!

The ink tank system appears to be much better than the cartridge system th-cam.com/users/postUgkxciSwynMJ7PnUvvx11rewiu-yFBkZTl53 and a lot cheaper to run. The machine was easy to set up. A small point but I thought they'd be a USB cable included to help with the set up but there was none. I've been using it now for a few weeks and it seems like a good product and superior to my previous printers which were all troublesome HP machines.

I cannot express how helpful this video was. I’ve had a printer for the past three year but always had trouble printing using my Chromebook. As a result, I could only managed to print from my phone. Now that school has moved to remote distance learning, it’s been a struggle to go through the process of printing on my phone each time. Especially when I could only access a certain page through my school Chromebook. Being able to successfully print from my Chromebook now is such a huge benefit for my learning. thank you thank you thank you!!!! i finally figured it out. it would be helpful to have an updated video with more interaction on printer settings. took me awhile to figure out my settings and realize my network connections were not matching,. had to call brother support and manually set up my wlan which then helped pair up my printer with my chromebook. 3 hours of troubleshooting and voila, i can print!

Didn't work on my chromebook without being in the same SSID network, like you said.
On a different server, it said it couldn't detect a printer.
I entered every IP address on the 4 pages it printed out.
None of them worked. Did what you said, without skipping any steps, worked straight away!
As a matter of fact, I didn't even need the IP address. It found the printer on its own through scanning the network it was on for other devices. All I had to do was click on the printer when it showed up on the screen, and hit "save". Thanks a million times over!
@7:12 the one in the middle is the printer I have. It's a Brother laser printer. You can go to my channel to see how to change the IP address manually.
I am here to help. A few things can cause this. One is when the printer is on a different network than the Chromebook. This happens because one router can have multiple SSIDs. . Now if the two devices are one the same SSID network, then it could be something else. Which printer model do you have? I will try to find a solution that works. We have even plugged printers straight into the Chromebook and that works on some. But if you have a wireless printer, I rather solve the problem with the network .

I just got my chromebook a few days ago, because I didn't like my MacBook, and I'm already thinking of going back to a windows based PC, because they are easier to work with, can run more programs commonly useful programs, and are upgradable with both hardware and software. @@lynnfaulkner2706 1st. Set up your Canon printer to connect with your router, wirelessly. Find your Printer's IP address either from the printer or from within the settings of your router. Make sure that both printer and Chromebook are in the same network, as it is possible to have multiple SSIDs (networks) on a single router. Then connect to your printer as per the instruction in this video. It should work. as I just tested it.

When you connect the printer straight to the Chromebook with a USB cable, it should "see" that a printer is connected and be able to print when you use the short-cut Ctrl+ P .

Tried this and still can't print. Have a lenovo chromebook and trying to print to hp envy 120 series.. States cannot print check printer. Can print from laptop and previously my old chromebook.
When you use the short-cut Ctrl+P, under the destination tab, your printer never shows up there? You may also try connecting the printer to the Chromebook via a USB cable.
I have a Canon MX472 that I can't get to work - It has a setting "IP Address Filtering" disabled - is this the same thing as what you refer to IPP enabling?
On the Canon MX472 , It should have "IP Address Filtering" disabled. If it was enabled, then only computers that you specify can print to that printer, based on their IP address. IPP is used to forward printing data, enabling you to print data on a printer on a distance location via the Internet. They are not the same thing.
For your Canon printer, please make sure that they are both on the same SSID network, so the Chromebook can see the printer. If all else fells, you may try to connect the printer straight into the Chromebook via a USB cable.
Does this work for thermal printers?

I have a printer named HP Color Laser MFP 179fwg, but my printer is not in the Chrome OS Flex list. I have a question: How can I detect it on Chrome OS
Have you tried to connect the printer to the CB via a USB cable and then go to the CB settings and do a search for printer. See if it detects it. Also, try using the short-cut cntrl +p to open the printer dialog box to see if it finds it.
Is there a printer that I can set up without having to go through these extra steps? I mean for chromebook.

The method shown in the video does not need any cable. But if this method does not work, then you may try connecting your Chromebook and printer with a USB cable.

Some routers have multiple SSIDs, please make sure that both the printer and Chromebook are on the same SSID. Is the printer seen by other computers on the network? To connect it to your router, you may Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button on the back of the printer for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on the router until the connection process begins.

It is possible that the printer and Chromebook are now on different SSIDs. One Network may have 2 or more SSID. Please check the network name on both devices.

Two months ago I followed your directions and was able to print again. Now it stopped printing again. I again added another name for my printer and am able to print again. Why is this happening? I have an HP Envy 6000 series. Have others had a problem?

Yes ,, I have my network configuration page which shows the IP address along with two other numbers that looks about the same within the IP information. So far it still won't add the printer and i tried all three sets of numbers under the IP number situations ,, The name is correct for the printer ,,, On my configuration page the IP address filtering : Disable which says ,, i wonder could that be a issue in showing the right IP address or etc. ,, The protocol and queue situations in the manually field does that have to be a certain way or etc.

Yes. There are some models that allow you to do just that. If you look at the comments on this video, you will find that some have done this with their canon printers.

Had my eyes on an HP M29w multi-function printer but HP sales could not tell me if it would work.
Yes, brother printers are good. I have a HP (formerly Samsung SL-m2020w) that keeps asking for a PPD after you click the Add when the name appears in the chromebook under Add Printers. Its really odd. I can print from Chrome browser in Gmail but I cannot print PDFs and other web pages that worked fine in 2020 until GCP was killed off by Google for no good reason. Help!

I would try the IP4 1st, if that does not work on your network, then try IP6

In that case , I believe it is rather straight forward. Connect the printer and then goto the printer settings as seen in this video and it will be there. The problem is that, that method does not work for many of the printers out there.
Wow! I just plugged my old printer into my Chromebook a VooooM! it works automatically. No drivers needed, this is awesome! I plugged my old printer into my Chromebook and I received and notification at the bottom of my screen. I clicked on it and it gave the correct name of the printer. Next I just used the short-cut Ctrl +P and it prints.. This is super easy now. LOL... Yes, I had only been using my newer wireless printers until a few seconds ago. If I do make a video of this.. I'll do a shout out for you.

Mr. Berry will this work on a cloud-ready laptop? and my other question with cloudready is when booting up in the top righthand corner I see a Client ID: number what that used for?
I have not tested this on a cloud ready laptop, but I believe that it should work in that OS as well. The Client ID is used to access the VMware Horizon View environment on Chrome OS & CloudReady.

Is my Canon printer no longer compatible ?
What I have seen in many, many cases is that people have set up their printer on a different SSID network then their Chromebook. When they are on different networks, I get the message "couldn't detect a printer please enter address again." Most routers have two or more SSID networks, please check to see that they are both on the same one. Also, depending on your Canon's model, there is a Canon printer App, that may help in your case. I have also, seen plugging your printer straight into the Chromebook via a USB cable has worked too. Let me know which model you have, if you need more help, and I'll look it up for you.

@@leshenley3785 I just looked that model up for you. The steps in the video, should do the trick. Canon suggested removing the printer from the GCP service. You may do that by going into your settings, doing a search for printer and then remove it from the list . Again, please make sure that they are on the same SSID network and channel, i.e. 2.4 GHz or 5GHz.

Hi, ive tried for hours to get my Canon MG5250 to work using this method. I have the ip address and ive set it up as a network printer but still get this message 'couldnt detect a printer. please enter ip address again'
Are the two devices on the same SSID network? A router can have multiple SSID networks and that is what I have seen causing that problem for others.
@@selmateacher7 Yes they are both on the same ssid network. Ive also tried it via a usb cable. It recognises it as a MG5250 but the MG5250 isnt on the compatible printers list, so no luck there either.
Im going to contact canon help tomorow and see what they say. If no joy then i will sell it and buy a new one. Is there any cheap (around $50 usd) compatible printers. I just need on for basic printing black and white docs.

I am here to help. Try this: remove the printer from the Chrome://devices options. Then try these steps. I am wondering if the IP address has changed on your printer. Normally these addresses are static and do not change.

Finally! A REAL teacher ! Someone who wants us to All to be successful users. Your tutorials are probably the best single source of Chromebook instruction out there. You got me up and running productively on my Chromebook, and I'm sure many others would say the same. I have been checking everywhere how to print through chrome book. Non gave me the solution. It’s you pointed out about “ destination “ and add printer to that column. Great explanation and Thank you 👍

Thank you so much. We have been struggling even with the cloudprint set up. Now that its gone, this is super easy. Chromebook is so new in Australia, support is non existent. Will check back when I next have a problem

Hi. I have been studying your videos since I'm a new CB user. I have managed to setup my printer over Wi-Fi. So far I can ONLY print saved documents through the printer app (Canon). I cannot print directly from the browser. Is there anyway this can be done? Keep up the excellent work. Matt
Thank you. You may take a screenshot of the browser window and paste that into a document. I am not familiar with the Canon app.
