Shell Recycling Program

Since 2019, NJDEP Fish & Wildlife’s Marine Resources Administration has partnered with Atlantic City restaurants to enhance the local oyster population through its Shell Recycling Program. Now, with a new $1.27 million grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the program has plans to partner with more restaurants, add public drop-off locations, develop a marine science education program in Atlantic City schools and plant over 700 tons of shells annually on the reefs.
