I am too old now to do woodworking projects myself but watching you still inspires me if only in the mind, please carry on making these great videos they give me so much enjoyment and pleasure thank you. Wow! Nice $2000 piece of moulding. I am a bit more of a hack. It's painted so a few laminations of hardboard glued and nailed in place with a cap moulding and shoe would have worked for me. Also i don't have that magical band saw for ripping the tulipwood. This friends is true craftsmanship, what i do is more crapsmanship. Excellent work!

I did the same job for my sister 20 years ago with just a panel saw and a stream to soak the wood in the water for a couple of week and then cut it every 10mm, it took days and I screwed it on it still looks good to this day. She doesn’t know how lucky she was I did it. Never did another one. This one is total perfection done by a master craftsman.

  • @garyblake3130

Having made a similar skirting to this (although with oak construction veneers) I fully appreciate how difficult this lamination to be. Well done for actually constructing this on site and then spindling the mould on your own, when we did it we templated the curve and made cauls to match and glued up in the workshop. We even wimped out and had 4 of us on the spindle, so again very impressive on your own. Great to see that there are still craftsmen out there willing to take the difficult approach to such a task, although I think you will find yourself very much in the minority. Always enjoy your videos as they bring back happy memories of previous work I have completed. Curved work always distinguishes the craftsmen from the tradesmen.

My heart was in my mouth when you began cutting on your home-made spindle moulder. Having just made some perfectly straight 3 metre lengths of 125 x 22mm maple skirting, using a Victorian Ogee cutter in a Jessem router table, I know just how stressful this was for you. Good to have Cripps there to keep you calm - very well done! I am impressed. That’s an awful lot of work. I just recently did something similar and I used flexible polyurethane molding. They make it in most standard profiles as well as custom. A lot of flat stock as well that can be stacked/combined to create your own profiles. Tight radii only needs a heat gun and patience.

Lovely work. I always think putting something like that together is a bit like pulling jenga blocks out of the puzzle, the more steps you have to do the more the anti gets upped. Putting that moulding in with that jig was awesome. If I got anywhere near close to that, then that’s where I’d mess it up 😂

Hi Ollie, yet again you make it look straightforward when it is anything but..... Which I think is the true acid test to demonstrate that it is not. Can you share total time taken to do the job, including pre-visits, planning, building spindle moulder, making laminations, sorting gear to take, breakdown clear up, Everything; and then share time, materials and cost? How did you price the job? How did you even wrap the Lams to stop it dripping everywhere, yet not being glue starved? My mind is blown....... Well done!

Amazing quality work. Three thoughts: I didn't for a moment fall for the 'Manchester' story until you proved it by working in the rain; I shudder to think how much you had to charge the customer for such an involved job for 'just' a bit of skirting; and after all that the beautiful work just disappeared into the background behind the furniture and curtains. Still, you know it's there. And so do we!
