No Melodrama, no Renaissance and no TPAB is crazy, also i think they picked 1989 TV for moral reasons i want to believe they had the og in mind😭 anyway they should’ve went with Red or folklore, those are her magnum opuses
completely agree. a modern pop album from taylor being the one album that makes it on this list is mind blowing. i LOVE 1989 but i feel so uneasy as to why it made it but folklore or red didn’t make it.

Renaissance can be so easily listened to front to back, it’s like a history lesson on the whole Dance genre condensed as an endlessly enjoyable DJ set. Every single person involved in its creation did one hell of a job.
They were only going to go with one Taylor album because a certain group of music critics were going to complain no matter what Taylor album got chosen so I think that’s why they went with 1989 since that’s the Taylor record most of the critics that would’ve complained no matter what tend to enjoy. Red is her critical darling, it has a little bit of everything especially genres that were under represented on the list. Folklore is her strongest writing on a record overall but I’ve seen a lot of critics turn on this record especially because critics are starting to not enjoy Taylor more and more. If we’re looking at her best answer most critically acclaimed works there pickings we’re going to be from Fearless, Red, 1989, and folklore, I really think certain artists and certain albums shouldn’t have been on the list to make way for Melodrama, Rensiance, TPAB, and maybe another Taylor pick with it being ether Red or Folklore. I’m not going to say which albums those albums should’ve replaced because I’m not about to catch heat especially from my own fandoms (I enjoy most artists that made it onto the lists and most albums too), but I did notice Apple Music is ether the exclusive streamer or exclusive sellers list for the deluxe versions of the albums that ,add it on here so….yeah
I always find it strange with dark side of the moon not being in the least in the top five of every one of these lists! It's 50 years old and it still sells 8,000 copies a week!! All the lyrics are accurate when it comes to living life and are timeless! And the musical compositions are even better!
Beyonce’s self-titled album is the reason why music is released on a Friday nowadays instead of Tuesdays, plus the first ever album with videos released at the same time. That album made Beyonce from an icon to a legend.
He’s saying he doesn’t agree with including more recent albums and goes on by demanding Renaissance over Self-titled 😂
Not that’s he wrong though, but S/T is super influential and the right pick.

@@kalmanta1824I understand that it should be taken into account when talking about the "greatest music of all time" but I think most people over exaggerate influence that an artist or album has on other artists. The actual quality of an album should be 90+ percent of the criteria for why 1 album is better than another. It doesn't matter who did it first, if the person who did it second did it best, then we should consider it a better album.
But the album has not a single good vocal or song on it

Yeah I still don't understand choosing 1989 (especially tv) over folklore, which is taylor's best songwriting. 1989 is good but it's just a basic pop album, not deserving to be here and especially in the top 20. I agree that red would've also been a great option. Folklore is more cohesive as an album though

Nah, red is better imo and probably objectively but to deride 1989 as “basic” is ehhh. It’s very tightly written pop and combines great lyricism with amazing productions and hooks. It has low points in bad blood and shake it off but it shows Taylor rlly well as someone who can write great lyrics regardless of genre
@scottmoir7501 I see your point and I agree. Maybe "basic" was far-fetched, I just meant that 1989, alone, doesn't really showcase why taylor stands out as a songwriter. And being placed so high seems crazy to me, especially since taylor alone has a few albums that in my opinion top it. (Speak now, red, folklore, evermore)

Tori Amos always gets forgotten in these. She's one of the best songwriters to have ever lived imo, Little Earthquakes and Under The Pink are both classics who inspired so many artists in recent years (Olivia Rodrigo for example). Many people just label her as a Kate Bush wannabe but she soars over Kate in terms of both piano technique and vocals

I honestly don’t even hate the Taylor’s version of 1989 I think people exaggerate a lot about it and how it stands vs the original but it’s clearly for moral reasons and the ethics of it when you think about it the stolen versions are pretty much blacklisted at this point and Taylor is every streaming services top artist of all time of course they can’t and won’t put that one Apple have a good relationship with her

apple music description for why 1989 was picked focuses on what the album meant for taylor's and her transition to pop so I think they mean to pick 2014 album but morally felt obligated to use her version

In the Taylor version there is no Max Martin, the main composer of the album, this is also immoral. Furthermore, let's not fool ourselves anymore, the whole epic of the re-recordings has been the perfect excuse to sell her catalog to the fans again. Maenstream artists never owned the masters

Most artists don't have the 💰 to purchase their masters. Prince tried & had major label issues as well. Re-recording was a risk...being backed into a corner & a desperate attempt to get out of it. Nobody wants to be in a position to have to try & do that. (Much less use it as an excuse.)
@@LK-lz6lk If you want to be the owner of your music, don't knock on the door of a record label, you have to manage yourself. If successful artists kept the masters, the music industry would not exist.
@@gerardovazquez6441 There's a diff btwn owning the masters from the jump, after so much time/yrs &/or getting first dibs if they ever decide to sell them. Taylor gets to own her masters with her new label & they're still making a ton of $ so...

I think the 1989 album is at the right place, in my opinion it's one of the most iconic pop albums of that decade.
The choice which version I think is harder. If you see it from nostalgic point, the original wins as many people who were with her music that time they remember it like that.
Otherwise the re record proves the album whitstand the test of time. It's very unusual for a 10 year old album to be remastered or recorded and hit that big again. Most of the times after 10 years music go to a not cool phase and it's more after 20 years people start liking it again because of sentimental values.

Quit with the recency bias. Most of these recency bias picks are not even top 1000. No Grace, Paranoid, So, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Moondance and nothing by Ray Charles, The Who, Smashing Pumpkins, Elliot Smith or Queen is criminal...putting Taylor Swift above Pet Sounds makes the whole list irrelevant. Pet Sounds is #1.
