Renaissance can be so easily listened to front to back, it’s like a history lesson on the whole Dance genre condensed as an endlessly enjoyable DJ set. Every single person involved in its creation did one hell of a job.
They were only going to go with one Taylor album because a certain group of music critics were going to complain no matter what Taylor album got chosen so I think that’s why they went with 1989 since that’s the Taylor record most of the critics that would’ve complained no matter what tend to enjoy. Red is her critical darling, it has a little bit of everything especially genres that were under represented on the list. Folklore is her strongest writing on a record overall but I’ve seen a lot of critics turn on this record especially because critics are starting to not enjoy Taylor more and more. If we’re looking at her best answer most critically acclaimed works there pickings we’re going to be from Fearless, Red, 1989, and folklore, I really think certain artists and certain albums shouldn’t have been on the list to make way for Melodrama, Rensiance, TPAB, and maybe another Taylor pick with it being ether Red or Folklore. I’m not going to say which albums those albums should’ve replaced because I’m not about to catch heat especially from my own fandoms (I enjoy most artists that made it onto the lists and most albums too), but I did notice Apple Music is ether the exclusive streamer or exclusive sellers list for the deluxe versions of the albums that ,add it on here so….yeah
I always find it strange with dark side of the moon not being in the least in the top five of every one of these lists! It's 50 years old and it still sells 8,000 copies a week!! All the lyrics are accurate when it comes to living life and are timeless! And the musical compositions are even better!

The actual quality of an album should be 90+ percent of the criteria for why 1 album is better than another. It doesn't matter who did it first, if the person who did it second did it best, then we should consider it a better album.

Nah, red is better imo and probably objectively but to deride 1989 as “basic” is ehhh. It’s very tightly written pop and combines great lyricism with amazing productions and hooks. It has low points in bad blood and shake it off but it shows Taylor rlly well as someone who can write great lyrics regardless of genre

Tori Amos always gets forgotten in these. She's one of the best songwriters to have ever lived imo, Little Earthquakes and Under The Pink are both classics who inspired so many artists in recent years (Olivia Rodrigo for example). Many people just label her as a Kate Bush wannabe but she soars over Kate in terms of both piano technique and vocals

I think the 1989 album is at the right place, in my opinion it's one of the most iconic pop albums of that decade. The choice which version I think is harder. If you see it from nostalgic point, the original wins as many people who were with her music that time they remember it like that. Otherwise the re record proves the album whitstand the test of time. It's very unusual for a 10 year old album to be remastered or recorded and hit that big again. Most of the times after 10 years music go to a not cool phase and it's more after 20 years people start liking it again because of sentimental values.
