I'm really surprised that there weren't more problems related to HIV transmission in 80s territory wrestling, at least from what we know. There seemed to be a rock star-level of promiscuity, heavy drug/alcohol use along with the use of steroids and possibly sharing of needles, combined with what feels like the most dangerous thing imaginable for HIV: bleeding on each other in the ring, and wrestling with open wounds.
You can't get it by bleeding onto someone because the virus becomes weakened when it hits the air. You have to either have blood injected into your veins or have a part of someone's body inside yours.
...weakened, i an no expert but i better mit take THAT risk, the wrestlers screwed everything and a weakened blood mess in the Ring.. call me falsely scared.. NO.
I know of a friend of mine, who was a Wrestling Referee in Puerto Rico died of Aids, and another (not my friend) but who was a masked Wrestler, who's name I withheld due to respect. They both died of Aids. I can't remember what was said on TV about my friend's death, but I do remember that it wasn't mentioned that he died of Aids. Probably because of fear.
ROIDED CAPS actually, the development of AIDS in hemophiliacs and those getting blood from banks caused the Nation to address this as a general health threat.
We used to play aids victim at school. Someone would be deemed the aids victim then anyone tagged got infected till everyone playing had aids, then we'd start again. Mid eighties.
Up until that point, and those Time and People magazine Features on Freddie Mercurian Rock Hudson plus the kid that got it from a blood transfusion We thought it was only a gay thing. But slowly we started to learn like wow, no more crazy sex
In wrestling, Hepatitis C was the disease to worry about. For instance Cowboy Bob Orton had Hepatitis C and warned John Laurinaitis about his concerns of The Undertaker cutting him open in the Hell in a Cell at Armageddon 2005. Laurinaitis ordered the angle to go ahead anyway and The Undertaker could have contracted Hepatitis C.
Couldn't find any specific people blaming Cowboy Bob for it. I could find Abdullah the Butcher being sued because of hepatitis. Superstar Billy Graham blames abdullah too on wrestlinginc. I can't find video of Superstar saying that but it was quoted on that website.
Hep B did ruin Nigel McGuinness's career because WWE couldn't sign him due to the ailment, he didn't want to go back to TNA and he couldn't keep up his ROH style on the indies because most of the indie guys were nowhere near good enough to keep up with him so Nigel had to retire around 2011.
@@joehung1552 Abdullah The Butcher has Hepatitis C and gave it to Devin Nicholson (Hannibal). Bob Orton has had Hepatitis B since he was a teenager and almost gave it to The Undertaker at Armageddon 2005 which is why he was fired.
I think it didn't come out that he was gay until long after his death, and the idea of a straight man who was seen as a ladies man getting AIDS was enough to get those fools off their asses to start doing something about it.
Ryan White, the 13 year old kid from Indiana, contracted HIV from a contaminated blood treatment in the mid-80s. That opened a lot of eyes.
Turn fruits into vegetables 😂 😂 😂 😂

BigBadJerry Rogers Yeah, it wasn't airborne so I'm not too surprised
Good points.

That fruits into vegetables line was a BAR
I’d pay money to see that Poffo video 🤣
It's actually on TH-cam

Aids is actually pretty hard to transmit with open wounds.
Hepatitis C is pretty easy though surprised that isn't more prevalent
Looking at you Abdullah
Pretty hard is not a risk id take knowing the sex life of wrestlers.
@@herzkine and steroids were needles drugs
I too am surprised with the rats and the blading there weren't more problems
Because it really is rare to catch it from heterosexual sex
91 when most of the general public took it more serious cause of magic Johnson saying he had aids
Juan Bautista I would agree.
Yeah, Magic and Eazy-E were both huge wake-up calls.
Idk. Most people I knew figured he fucked a dude
Plus Magic coming out saying he had HIV put an end to the stereotype of AIDS being a disease exclusive to gay men.
The doctors where so baffled they actually called aids grid it stood for gay related immune deficiency and that was in the latter half of the 1970s
ROIDED CAPS actually, the development of AIDS in hemophiliacs and those getting blood from banks caused the Nation to address this as a general health threat.
So like Right wing nuts with monkey pox today...

Like Kids with Ebola today
OH SHIT, I remember Cornette telling Schiavannie that Rock said hello...LOL.
Lanny Poffo was savage as fuck! HAHAHAHA!!!
" with that my company was practically was closed! FKN non drawing MFKR"
😂😂😂😂😂
Even in the UK I think it was Magic Johnson in 91 that woke people up.
Up until that point, and those

Rock Hudson and Freddie Mercury were both huge influences when it came to AIDS back in the late 80's and early 90's
it was magic johnson
My Ass Got Infected Coach
Gee Lanny Poffo should have had a V8!
Don't ever change Jim

Is Undertaker Super Mark (hold the Calloway/Callous)?
Now creatively we're all stuck with A(IDS)EW 😭
Man I miss those late 80s stereotypes.
JFC that Poffo line
Cowboy Orton has Hep B, the disease infected an number of wrestlers and ended some promising careers.
Couldn't find any specific people blaming Cowboy Bob for it.

I thought it was Hep C.

So many stories of gays in the industry, surprised it wasn't more of an issue. Pat Patterson comes to mind.
I bet wrestlers ran at the sight of Abdullah the Butcber.
Rock Hudson was gay on the down low, so that's not a good example lol
