There's lore behind those bull statues. Idk the origins of the word "Morthal" but supposedly it came from Morihaus, i.e. that minotaur who helped humans take over Cyrodiil from the Ayleids.
I swear this is the best Skyrim mod channel. The editing has perfect pacing and each shot holds for the perfecting amount. Very informative and feel like you respect the viewers time.
You're so kind to say that, thank you! It's not always easy to hold the balance, and there is still much to improve on xD But comments like these motivate me a lot to do even better, so thank you again!
Easily one of the best mod comparison videos I've seen (not just cities, but all mod comparison videos). I can see even more potential and hear you're just getting going, but you're already pushing boundaries and I think that's the best place to be. Great job! 😊
I appreciate that, really, I do. Thank you so much for the encouraging words! I'll try to improve on the next one even more. Thanks again, you made my day!
It would be cool to see some of the patched versions that merge them in more of these videos. Sometimes architecture is changed and other times new buildings are added, and it’s cool to see them together
Ah, glad to see you included Redbag's Morthal! I love how he changes the designs of the various settlements to make them feel more Nordic, but each in very different ways. His mods aren't as compatible with huge load lists as others, but I think they achieve a strong artistic result.
Agreed - his artistry is a good addition to the town overhaul mods, even though they might be a little incompatible. Rn creating a video about his Falkreath, which is also guaranteed RedBag quality mod! :D
I loved the video! I adore these types of videos, comparing mods and giving a very solid review of each, really letting us get a feel of the new layout and helping us decide what to get for our load orders! The pacing and length of the video were great, and I can only hope you'll make more of these, for other towns!
Personally I love Redbag's Morthal the most cause not only is the most visually distinct out of all of them. But it helps tone down the generic medieval fantasy for something more fantastical. Something I wish more mods did.
Great video! It would be great to see a complete series of all the 'towns and cities' comparison, like this one. Depending on the size of the town or city, maybe compare 3 to 5 mods that do a complete overhaul. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, thanks! I'm aiming to do something like that. It is a hard thing to choose the overhauls for the video, when there are so many beautiful mods! Thanks for your support
I use ClefJ's Morthal, because I'm a real estate baron, and ClefJ's Morthal doesn't interfere with Morthal Home SE by Lazz.. Since there's no city home you can buy for Morthal, it just made sense to have a sweet house just over the bridge, because sometimes I just don't feel like schlepping through the marsh to get to Windstad Manor... which I also bought. Like I said, I'm a real estate baron, every player home for Hearthfire, every city home that is associated with becoming a Thane, plus an extra one two or three in every hold, a mine, a farm, an entire village, the Luxury Suite, a Castle and a Keep and a Monastery. Falkreath and the Reach are the only two holds that I only have one home in, I stopped using Silverstead in the Reach.. I just really never went there much after buying it and building it up. The mods I used to use in Falkreath were pulled by the author during the Nexus 'Collections' switch ordeal. I lost use of a few really killer homes during that fiasco. I'd use the COTN and Great Cities mods if Morthal Home was ever redone to match the wood look, but since Morthal Home is stonework like ClefJ's Morthal is stonework, it would feel out of place. Good video showcasing these mods, the first one just wasn't my cup of tea though.
Its a great day when the Bard has a new video, even better when its Morthal! Thank you so much for all of your video's, I have been watching them while rebuilding my skyrim. I must have watched the tree video a dozen times lol.
Thanks for another great video. You have a unique style that is informative and entertaining. Your delivery is very easy to listen to. Keep on doing what your doing!
you made a perfect point in this video ,for people like me that use jk skyrim or palaces and castle enhanced or both, the great cities are the best , since they don't change interiors... thanks!
My favorite Morthal setup is JK's Morthal + Morthal II + The Marshlands (either the archived v1 or a later version patched to remove the unimmersive tavern outside the north gate)
Great comparison mod for city designs, for me I liked "Clefj’s Morthal" the most with "the great city of a close second" also loved the texture mods used and the very realistic NPC mod. Maybe you'll do a NPC mod comparison when you've run out of cities?
Thanks! ClefJ's Morthal was lovely so I agree. It would definitely be interesting to do more NPC overhaul videos, just feel like they're harder to do xD
I kinda wish there was a way to combine them all because I could see all those building styles being used in different points in the cities history perhaps with the oldest buildings being the Nordic ones the newer ones being inspired by the cultural evolution of neighbouring Solitude and the boats from redbags mod being a result of working men and women who sailed the river using their old ships as homes when they retired.
I hope you get many subs soon because you're doing a great job in showing cool up and coming mods. It's very refreshing to hear a girl this time :) I only know Koubitz so far :P
I love how you present the comparisons to vanilla and to each other, it's a great video concept. Really enjoyed. Can't wait to see if you do this for the other cities.
@@BardsCollegeGraduate I think that Riften would really be interesting to see because any mods that cover Riften never seem to give its lore justice. Also personally at some point I'd love to see your ideas on mods that actually make solstheim a place actually interesting enough to visit more often because I never seen anyone ever do anything with solstheim.
Thanks! My mod list changes all the time and it's not necessarily stable, so I don't want to "endorse" it by giving it out. You'll achieve the graphical setup with Rudy ENB with Cathedral Weathers, Noble Skyrim, Northern Grass, Happy Little Trees, Nature of the Wild Lands, Majestic Mountains, SMIM, Ethereal Clouds, Blended Roads, Origins of Forest and Dyndolod. Hope this helps
maaan I wish I’d seen this before being lazy and just installing all of COTN and filling the gaps with TCG/TGV. Whatever I have for Morthal’s interior is so outdated with incredibly low res textures. Redbag and ClefJ’s blow it out of the water. It’s probably vanilla because I didn’t even check what I was installing lol.
correct - my mistake, figured I should've included Holds too while already 90% finished with the video, and then it was already too ambitious of a project for me. sadge
Does clefj's and cities of the north work together? Like keeping the walls but replacing the buildings? I'd love to see a video of you touring the other two mods as well, as they don't get attention...I mean I haven't even heard of them before xD Great video :) ty for your hard work ❤️
That would be my pick, too! I love the defensive walls and the castle from ClefJ's Morthal, but (aside from the inn interior in Cities 😬) I love the wholly unique building style in Cities of the North. ClefJ's changes them a bit, but not quite enough, imo (they still have those prominent farmhouse rooves, lol 😅). And none one of the other mods' city walls are defensive enough, imo; some look like the primitive orc stronghold walls 👀, and some just look like tall fences (like the ones people put around their house's yards/gardens, lol 😅). The general trader and the drawbridge from Great City of Morthal (or is the drawbridge from Cities of the North 🤔?) would be great as well, though 😅.
Hjaalmarch and particularly the city of Morthal is the settlement makes the least sense to me. Why would a large settlement ever grow there? It is a cold bog in the shadow of a mountain. Where are they getting food from? No land for farming, no water for fishing, so that leaves hunting or buying food from outside. Ok, what are they trading to buy said food? Timber? No, Falkwreath, and Riften they'd dominate that market. Mineral wealth from the mountains? There is one mine in the whole Hold, that wouldn't compete with Dawnstar never mind Markarth. They don't even have a reliable source of fresh water. Morthal doesn't have a unique service like the College of Winterhold is(supposed to be). The only thing that stands out is the alchemical ingredients are unique, but everywhere has unique flora and fauna for alchemy, and besides is there enough demand for them to build a Hold around? TL;DR - Hjaalmarch gets a 0 on the Economics Explained National Leader-board.
There's lore behind those bull statues. Idk the origins of the word "Morthal" but supposedly it came from Morihaus, i.e. that minotaur who helped humans take over Cyrodiil from the Ayleids.
Oooh thanks for letting me know, I was actually wondering what the connection was! :D Wish I had that tidbit in the video!
Interesting
You got to admit Redbag created something otherwordly - the idea - the execution - the details - Redbag - the legend😯😯😯
For sure, the scope of the mod and the creativity is out the roof!

Yess been a long time fan of his! Such a talented soul, and generous for allowing to use his music on TH-cam :)
I'm in love with the fantasy look of Redbag's Morthal. I wish I could find a similarly fantastic overhaul for each town and city!
You and me both, you and me both! 😍
city overhaul and new town / hamlet is my favorite type of mod! can't wait for the next city overhaul video!
Love to hear that, I'm definitely in the same boat 😄 We'll see what could be the next town!
Thanks for featuring my mod! It's definitely due for an update after i release my Falkreath overhaul, but it still holds up well i think.

Thank you! And very much agreed, even though there are some excellent other ones as well!

Morthal such an underwhelming hold you called it a town through the whole video
