'Highland Cathedral' performed by Huntly Pipe Band with Dancing by Michelle Gordon in Huntly 2018

- Huntly & District Pipe Band, led by Drum Major Derek Dean and Pipe Major Ian Stuart, playing 'Highland Cathedral' in Huntly Square. The young lady dancing is the 2018 World Junior Highland Dancing champion, Michelle Gordon, who comes from Huntly. This was part of their 70th anniversary celebrations in the town, when they invited ex-bandsmen and guests to play along with them for this special celebration.
Huntly and District Pipe Band are a recreational band, formed in 1948 by Gordon Highlanders returning home from service in WWII, and the Gordon tartan is synonymous with the Huntly and District Pipe Band, having been devised by Forsythes of Huntly.
Sadly though I had to say goodbye to my mum who was cremated to the tune Highland Cathedral....tears streaming down my face and a big lump in my throat....I love Scotland with all my heart!!!!

Could any Scott's there's a dilemma about a mercenary Scott by the name Maxim Cameron aka Maxim Krivonis a Scottish colonel in the Zaporozhian Cossacks during the uprising of 1648 to 1657 but Maxim Krivonis died of the plague of 1649 maybe that plague reached London in 1666 .
All I see is a culture on the verge of extinction of which I am inextricably linked by ancestry yet denied politically irregardless of locality. I would love to come home if only I had the means to make a living. I would stand with you all, though my ancestors sought long ago to find other ways in the New World. I would like to come home to the land of which those before me were born.

I feel bad for any piper or drummer whose band insists on including "Highland Cathedral" in their repertoire... It's such a strange, un-bagpipe-like tune, and it's not even Scottish... Plus, it's super boring to play, especially for for the drum corps ("Boléro"?)... There are plenty of much more interesting, more authentic, and better-written slow marches/airs that any grade 4 band could play... Why do we keep playing this dumb thing? (Thumbs up to the dancer for managing a very nice Lilt at a very slow tempo!)
It is played way too much, often too fast, and out-of-tune. But, that is not the fault of the German composers. Indeed, there is a huge repertoire of excellent traditional pipe music. Often heard more by Scots accordionists than pipers these days!
I wish the tuning was a bit better. In tune pipes give a sweet sound. I mean well, though, and am sure this band will move forward in a positive and musical manner.

Nice feather bonnets! Nice sporrans! Nice leopard-skins and kilt-hose and plaids etc... This band definitely looks better than it sounds, (they remind me of the Pakistanis) at least in this particular video... but, the tourists seem to dig it, and that is totally fine... (I understand tuning difficulties, it happens to best of us, I am not a troll/hater, just a fellow band-nerd.)
"Battle of the Somme" should be a bit quicker, for the dancer at least... She can't very well just stay suspended in the air while y'all "hold the dots" and "express the tune"... Don't listen to the corny old RSPBA "judges", they are all old and washed up, and it's all about £'s for them; they are arbitrary on a good day, and downright prejudiced on all the other days... they like to hear things slowed down so they can criticize with their withered old ears more easily... (It's the 'BATTLE" of the Somme, not the "leisurely stroll alongside the lovely French river") ... There are no "riparian entertainments"; no candlelit suppers.
Though, the dancer should be able to perform to any tempo of music, without being wooden/have good structure to dance as in legs turned out, etc.. at least that's what my teacher used to tell us :) dancer shouldn't slow down to the music, but just dance, freely. I do agree with what you said about the band too.
