I don't have both only the M8x. I'm not sure what "powerful" means. With PAC2 on M it's all the clean power imaginable. I do have the YC73 stage board so the fact that stage boards are like "Instant Breakfast" and ready to go instantly might mean you prefer that. If you have 7 Nord layers playing at once that will obviously sound powerful however the M can do far more than that. They are completely different markets really. With Nord you also pay a premium for one-knob-one-function interfacing. The M is more like a super computer and requires detailed knowledge and expertise to do anything imaginable. Typically less thinking translates to more fun for many of us who just want to play and not program or only fiddle minimally with a few knobs. There's probably no real practical way to compare them, they are completely different machines for completely different markets and used for completely different objectives. I added a Yamaha SeqTrak & Arturia MiniFreak to my YC73 and now it's next level proving combinations of gear & for far less $ can do things a single board can only dream of doing.
I have the original Montage and I can’t even play. Still love making noise with it. Probably won’t upgrade anytime soon, but if I would upgrade now , I would go with the Montage M8X. I tried Nord Stage 4 at Guitar Center and loved it. I still prefer Yamaha.
I have the M6 as well and cash is burning a hole in my pocket to get the Nord Piano 5🔥 It’s about that time for a refresh so I’ll definitely hold out for a newer Nord version or possibly an updated Roland RD-2000
I turned to a full software system playing live many years ago. So I use only midi controllers, macbookpro, and an audio board. I owned an old Montage but I sold it. I prefer much more plugin sounds. New MontageM sounds cool because I would have a full plugin version...
great video. We need more of this comparison between Montage and Nord Stage 4. It has mono sound (which is a shame), but I guess you'll upload your next video in stereo:-) All the best
Popo for me, the Yamaha, I personally would not buy a Nord. I have played on several and I was very satisfied with the results. I just see it as an over priced Board. I have the top 3 Korg, Roland and Yamaha above all Nords. I think Keyscape, Arturia, B5, IKMedia and a laptop will do anything the Nord would do just as good as Spending 6 grand. Not knocking Nord buyers.
You can do just about everything with that. Montage, it's an incredible board. This is my first Nord. I was just impressed with the way it sounded mainly. Any sound you put through It comes out super strong. But as far as work flowing stuff in song mode, the yamaha is a win. They're both extremely fun to play.
used to be all about nords, but I totally hated the keybeds. Now I have a MODX6 and a Casio PX-5S and I'm pretty happy though I do miss the immediace of the Nord Stage sometimes
What Nord Stage 4 is that, 73 compact or 73 HA? I have a M8x, but continued to intrigued but the Nord Stage 4… I grew up playing live gigs with pre-midi and early midi synths 1978-1990.
I need to recreate patch from montage "Rock lead" with that detune effect when you crank superKnob. Is it possible on NS4? I've sold montage, now on nord try to do this but no luck. Could you give me some advice?
The Nord's levels were much hotter than the Montage, so 1st, please try to get the comparisons level matched...looking at meters won't help. If you don't know how to achieve this, then seek advise. Why didn't you use a variety of sounds from each to showcase?
Used a Yamaha Motif forever.... picked up a Kurzweil K-1000 for Grand Piano... Never was happy with Yamaha Piano, Ended up with a Hammond XK 3 for organ which was a Perfect Facsimile of the B3.. See a Pattern Here ?? My Motif was and is a Great Board and a Great Notepad for ideas..But the Piano, and Organ Never Satisfied... The Yamaha Xk3, and Kurzweil were Heavy.... and Expensive .. I also was searching for a board that had great Piano and Organ plus.. A pianist was on a Nord Stage at a Guitar Center and Blew Me Away.... So I picked up a Nord Stage Compact and am in Heaven......... Stellar Piano , Organ with the Best Leslie Clone Period..., plus Mellotron Samples and killer Synth...."the Stage 3 Compact is Only 21lbs." No Sequencer was the Only Down Side.. So Searching for a Dawless recording option was Priority....... Enter Akai MPC...I know this is lengthy but I have the Solution to All my needs... Bottom Line: I have paired the Akai MPC key 37 , with my Nord Stage and am Beyond words on this Setup..... The Plug-ins Are Not Nord, but are So Close a Emulation that I can record 95% without using the Nord..... Amazing.... Literally a Studio in a 9lb. Keyboard... Thanks to Akai for inspiration , and Nord for Realism.... Thanks to Poli Popo for turning me on to the MPC also....
Bro, thank you, I've learned to use the Nord with the mpc as well, I have another video showing how to hook up the. MP C to the Nord, so you can control all 7 parts of the Nord with your MP. C. It's pretty dope, and you can sequence

Ok,I see you poli, you should really check out the Nord Wave 2….it’s a beast also

Unless you adjust the default 64 velocity to something higher you will be missing most of the Yamaha AWM2 patch layers.
Love the information thank you

Its the compact 73
It is extremely powerful and fun to use

I guess I choose the Nord with MPC.. Ha
It's tough honestly the Yamaha Have some really nice sounds, but there's something special about that nord
20 minutes could have been compacted into at most 10. Please respect your audience with preparation, not meandering. You have good things to say.
I share as i go 💯 non scripted stuff here
MONO? Oh this is SUXXXX
Yeah, still getting things set up.
Just sharing, as i'm going, i'm no pro
