That's awesome! And yeah, this is super fun to do in any Pokemon game! Your rival can't follow you very far because of the loading zones unfortunately, and taking him into a house or cave to try to load the next area crashes the game 😭 I would've loved to bring Barry to the Elite Four otherwise!
The most entertaining thing about a video game is the glitches. Seeing so many glitches in this game is genuinely amazing, I love the different ways you can completely crash it.
Yeah! There are so many great games where it's so fun to test out what's possible in it and see what kinds of weird and funny things happen! Always a blast to see what surprises are in store 😂
I actually found a glitch on Roark that involves going underground with only just only a level 10 Murkrow, fainting more than once after attempting a battle against a higher level underground pokémon, Roark taking you to your secret base and then doing the same thing again in another location, only without your secret base. When you go up to the surface after doing that, Roark will be traveling in places that he’s not supposed to travel in the game, like a poké center or your characters’ house for example.
@@planetsliveinsidethemoon1600 Technically, I also did the same thing with a level 2 bidoof as well, so, I think this glitch of Roark doing shadow clone jutsu happens with any pokémon that’s really lower than the current level you’d see with any underground pokémon.
Given that dawn says she chose turtwig even though you didn't actually pick a pokemon so you didn't activate any flags, I guess it just defaults to chimchar as being the canon starter of the game.
@@miles6492 yeah, that would align with the total lack of contingency and error handling shown in the rest of the game in this video - I'm actually really surprised. Despite how people like to whinge about lazy programming in games and Pokemon in particular, they're actually usually quite good about creative contingency planning. This remake has nice graphics and all, but the coding is actually *worse* in many basic and important ways than the game it's meant to be an updated version of!
@@MononymousM I'd say that that is contingency enough; if there was no contingency planning, then the game would freeze when it tries to pull your starter's ID. Remember that the creative failsafes of older Pokemon games were often because the game simply refused to freeze and instead pulled on garbage data.
@@MononymousM Personally I don’t think that game devs should be required to write contingency code for people hacking the game lololol. The contingency is making it so that you can’t do this kind of stuff in the first place.
@@vidyabatter while this is true, they still aren't wrong. The infinite healing at the Pokémon center due to no pokemon was in the original too. Not only this, but two different walk through wall glitches have returned too (ik this is a hack, however, I was just agreeing that these games are still pretty broken)
This brings back a lot of nostalgia, I had a ds with pokemon platinum, but I didn't know the game was apparently pirated and had acess to cheats so I messed up the gam a LOT, for example, I couldn't move on snow and only through walls (I skipped a lot with walk through wals like in this video).
instead of cynthia, you encounter Eggward who also has no pokemon and one egg... You and Eggward both make a pokemon egg omelette and become best friends
11:00 My theory here is that the same thing that happens with in Pokemon Red/Blue when you talk to nurse joy with no pokemon (using arbitrary code execution) happens here, except instead of 255 pokemon being put down, it's 9,223,372,036,854,775,807 pokemon being put down (the 64 bit integer limit), so it takes a lot longer to have the same effect
Yeah! It's an integer underflow. I'm assuming having no Pokémon is treated as a negative number (?) and that's why it loops back around (since binary cannot store negative numbers)
I don't think they'd use a long (64bit integer) in that case. If anything they'd just use a regular int (32-bit), but if they really wanted to optimize how much memory the game would use they would use a byte (8bit)
id want a pokemon game where the npcs have an actual schedule instead of just standing in one spot for all eternity. like they can wander around their specific areas, and go do things at certain times, so its not as boring.
actually, I think nurse joy will eventually finish putting the pokeballs down once she places either 65,536 or 4,294,967,296 pokeballs, because the counter for the cutscene will eventually overflow and wrap around to zero which would trigger the "placing pokeballs" animation to end and the cutscene to continue.
if theyre gonna remake the games with absolute accuracy (down to some of the same bugs in the original ), then we should join them if we cant beat em lol. i miss walking through walls in my old playthroughs and this was a nice remindee of that
For Dialga area I remember in the old game with walk through wall if you keep walking up you get to the area Arceus is at, which is a platform in the sky.
10:40 I believe this is a numeric underflow of the number of pokemon in your party. She took the 'first' non-existent pokemon and the value underflowed. I think it would eventually clear itself up, but you'd be there for an hour or two as it slowly made its way back down to zero. Either that, or the game would crash at some point.
It would be interesting to do a challenge run where you only get the gifted egg in the middle of the game, wander around that area to hatch it, then start your actual Pokemon journey with that as your starter Pokemon (and maybe with a starting route closer to the route with the egg gift than the normal starting route)
I think the reason no pokemon appear if you dont have a pokemon is because you have to step into the grass before you get a pokemon anyways, so the game probably has a code preventing pokemon from coming out before you have a pokemon.
Maybe they talked about what happens specifically in this video in an interview in the same style that they conducted the interview for Pomemon X and Y with the exact reasons being explained why there is the starters appearing in the middle of the room when you use the walkthrough through walls code at the very beginning of the game.
I recall something about them including both the orbs in Moint Coronet on purpose for some specific reason. I believe that wanted they wanted make the orbs available for the reason for single children who do not have the money for both games. They clearly mentioned something about using action replay to get the orbs first and then going back to the beginning of the game to be able to play the game without cheats to encounter the legendary pokemon version of your specific game eventually. Nintendo made 100% sure that it was possible to do without fighting any trainers in the game. They also mentioned something about exactly why the orbs were made available before you challenge the team Galactic boss at the exact spot where the game legendary spawns in at.
Rival: I bet our lake has shiny Pokémon, too! Me several routes later: /meets shiny Buizel, it’s a girl, names it OceanGlimmer, plots to use it to trip up rival later so starts training it ASAP/ I’m not kidding. That’s honestly how my morning went today.
People have figured out a glitch to skip Cynthia in speedruns, so if you apply that glitch here, does the game keep trying to infinitely show the pokemon you have in the gall of fame?
If you have empty pokemon slots that causes the game to crash upon the first pokemon being deposited in the original games, the hall of fame shows something else, as if the devs were expecting this problem to arise. I thought that the game would crash upon entering the room and triggering the cutscene. The game also heals them perfectly fine as well.
Strangely Pokemon Battle Revolution is also designed to work around this particular problem as well, making the slots unusable for the battle with the connection to the game.

It's posisble that, depending on how things are done, the nurse joy heal loop isn't infinite it will just take a very, very, very long time (13 decades at the LEAST, if it's once per second) if it increments a counter by 1 and then checks if it equals the pokemon in your party so the value overflows and goes back to 0, at which point it will finish.
Thirteen decades, which is 130 years would be longer than we could live. Who would have the patience to wait longer than the entire human lifespan? Not to mention the Switch's batteries. The charger would become weaker with time. If the loop is going to take over 13 decades, you won't be able to prove it. You won't live enough to prove it, and you can't keep your Switch on for that long without it catching on fire. Good estimation, but it would only look like infinity if you try to wait, and you won't even make it to the point where your math is proven right, because you will need to turn that game off.
@@SeanWheeler100 you're right, we don't get old enough and the switch will die long before that time, but what about emulators? You can even emulate with like 100x the speed, so, problem solved. Other than that, the original comment was just a theory, he never said anything about proving it on an original console... That bs came from your brain. Btw, the original comment sounds pretty realistic, i agree with him
@@zerosixteen9433 At 100x speed, your emulator would probably crash. And if it doesn't crash, it would lag and end up a lot slower than 100x speed and still take an eternity. Programs have their limits too. And if you're lucky enough to get that emulator running perfectly at the correct speed, it would take sixteen whole months to get there. And it would be bad to keep your computer on for that long. The emulator would take up RAM as you're browsing the internet. And you would have to close the emulator for some anti-virus maintenence.
@@SeanWheeler100 i see there is no more reason for me to argue with you, because you definitely aren't here to prove something, but to stick to your fantasies about how reality works, sad thing is, you have no clue but talk like you do, you're spreading misinformations and think you're so clever but you're clearly not. But just for the sake of reasoning, emulators can in fact emulate that fast if your conputer is something better than a commodore, it wouldn't end up slower bc that makes no fng sense at all and if the emulation works fine there is no lag or anything. Your first argument was that people can't life long enough to let it run for 130 years, now i give you a possibility to try it in a few months and you say it's "bad for your computer", that's the stupiest argument i ever heard. You're a child my friend and you will never change if you dont reflect on yourself.

You're a child my friend and you will never change if you dont reflect on yourself.
oh my god i was expecting this
