Bought it on steam sale recently, forgot about it, and am playing it again. As a veteran of the genre I am SHOCKED at how well it holds up.
Not everything is perfect, the boss fights are weird, some of the levels have problems with enemy spawns being sparse or timed strangely, but overall the experience is still friggin' excellent.

Quasar Ulas BOoH wasn't as good and Overdose isn't that bad. I would say both are equally not great for different reasons, the other 3 are awful tho.
SeriousPain booh was great 2 new weapons that were both decent and more good levels. overdose had this unpolished feel with lazier levels and unsatisfying weapons. just doesn't feel as enjoyable for me to play.
if games had trailers like this they could be more popular.but instead it's like "if you pre order now you get an extra gun of pink striped color and an exclusive level" give me a break

this game was my gateway drug into PC gaming. i mean i was always aware of diablo, and starcraft, runescape.. but this got the gpu blood flowing.

DUDE!!! Just found this song on iTunes and downloaded it quick!!! When I and my best friend first heard this song, we damn sure thought it was Ozzy!! Was kind of heart broken when we learned it wasn't, but still love this song. Maaaaan, spent many late nights blowing stuff up on this game. This totally deserves a remake like they remade Doom. Just do NOT change this song. LOL
Yeah I'm not the biggest Sabbath fan, but the fact the polish singer's vocal strongly resembles Ozzy's tone definitely made this song ever more memorable to me. 🙂

Painkiller was the reason I built a PC back in 2004, then I followed it with Doom 3, Far Cry, Unreal Tournament 2K4 and Half Life 2, what an amazing year for PC gaming... My Steam account is about to turn 20 years this month ... SHEESH time sure flies.
Just...AWESOME from start to finish this song is a masterpiece! I remember hearing it for the first time after beating the game and wanted to hear more and play more of it! An absolute beast track that goes perfectly with old school FPS.

muy buen juego un clasico ya del siglo 21 despues del renombrado quake ; he jugado tanto este juego que es imposible olvidarme de los traumaticos escenarios de combate y de los horribles monstruos a los que habia que exterminar a los escopetazos limpios ni que hablar de los jefes al final de cada capitulo a los que habia que meterle con el lanzagranadas para que no te agarren y te hagan concha con sus poderes del orto ; grandiosa banda alemana esta la recomiendo ; hace mucho la habia confundido con ozzy por la voz y estilo de rock pero lo que seduce de esta es justamente el hecho de ser alemana y ser de los 80"s la misma epoca que se formaron grandes bandas como maiden megadeth hellowen grave digger etc
De hecho Mech no es alemana, es una banda polaca, pero si, el juego era de puta madre

I'll always love Painkiller. When I was a young noob to pc gaming, I ordered an extremely overpriced Dell XPS that was an absolute beast. I found Painkiller in the 10 dollar bin at Walmart. I had an amazing 5.1 Altec Lansing system and I was hooked on the game. Man, to go back in time

Painkiller puts Brutal Legend to shame... like honestly what were they trying to do with Brutal Legend? Make the most metal game ever made? Hell no, that pedestal belongs to Painkiller.

Terry 309 I can't see how a game with metal influenced music and killing demons is more metal than a game with a ton of metal music from actual licensed metal musicians that you can listen to while driving around in a suped up weaponized hotrod, a main character that's voiced by Jack Black, a ton of metal musician cameos, an entire world inspired by heavy metal album covers and metal references literally everywhere even in the combat, a story in which you fight a ton of demons and zombies and an electric guitar and axe as your main weapons.
