Lonestar1430 Accuracy? Bismarck’s accuracy was garbage, and god forbid her dispersion. USS Pennsylvania, for example, had way better accuracy. Bismarck is a close range ship, American counterparts were Pacific Ships and thus were better long range. Also, American quality armour was considered to be the best, so their armour was about equal.
Awesome trivia: The captain of the boat that took the band out to sea, was the son of the last survivor of the Bismarck, the survivor was meant to be in the video but was in failing health, his son then took his place.
Yup. The term Kriegsmarine refers to any fighting navy, the US Navy is the United States’ “Kriegsmarine”. Though the term is mostly for the German Empire between 1933 and 1945 (iirc the Reichsmarine was officially renamed to Kriegsmarine in 34 or 35)
A little history for Billy. This song is about the KMS (Kriegsmarine Ship) Bismarck. Launched in Feb. 1939 it was, at the time, the largest battleship ever constructed. It was so large that it broke the London Navel Treaty... well broke it then smashed it to pieces. The British were so scared of this ship and it's sister the Tirpitz that they hunted them fairly exclusively in the early days of World War 2. The Bismarck was finally caught after it humiliated the British at the battle of the Denmark Strait where it sunk the HMS Hood, the flag ship and pride of the Royal Navy. After a desperate torpedo bomber attack the British thought they had lost the ship in the Atlantic (Portrayed somewhat, but not totally accurately at 2:50 in the music video). One of the Swordfish hit the Bismarck's rudder while it was in a hard turn and caused the ship to sail in circles. The pilots of the Swordfish didn't know they had caused any real damage until after they had returned to their carrier. The Royal Navy then basically took every ship they had in the area and charged at the Bismarck, firing shell after shell into it and hitting it with torpedoes for multiple hours until it finally sank into the North Atlantic. Supposedly the bombardment was so bad that the chaplain on the flagship begged the commanding Admiral to allow the Germans to attempt to surrender, but was ignored.
At the bottom of the ocean, the depths of the abyss, they are bound by iron and blood, the flagship of the navy, the terror of the sea, his guns have gone silent at last" The first time I heard this song, that part give me some damn heavy goosebumps, just epic
Bismarck, along with sister ship Tirpitz, was a battleship and the flagship of the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) during World War 2. The scenes in this video are remarkably accurate in terms of portraying Bismarck's final battle against the Royal Navy. It was produced by WarGaming, the company behind the World of Warships game (among others), hence the ultra-realistic animations of the ships and weapons in the video. The short version of the story is that while the German Navy could never hope to beat the British Navy using traditional surface warfare, Bismarck and Tirpitz were both feared because of the potential havoc they could wreak were they to break out into the open waters of the Atlantic and raid Allied convoys. Bismarck attempted to do just that, surviving its first engagement while sinking the HMS Hood, but turned back for a safe harbor in occupied France due to damage sustained in that battle. Great Britain unleashed every warship they could in an effort to sink the Bismarck before it could reach German air cover; in the end, it was a lucky hit from a Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber (the biplanes shown in the video) which disabled Bismarck's steering and allowed the rest of the fleet to finish the battleship off. There is still some controversy as to whether the ship actually sank because of enemy fire (it took more than 400 hits during the exchange) or because of scuttling charges set by Bismarck's crew; most experts agree that it was intentionally scuttled, but that the damage inflicted to it would have caused the battleship to sink eventually anyway. Others pointed out the compass held by the captain of the fishing trawler in the beginning of the video, which is the same compass carried by the surviving German sailor off of Bismarck. The coordinates engraved on the cover are correct: Bismarck's wreck was found in 1989 at coordinates 48°10′N 16°12′W.
BILL!!!! i think you must be the only reactor on youtube that realizes how massive the Bismarck was when they show the small tugboat next to the battleship and for that THANK YOU!!! :D
Tripitz was just abother massive battleship produced by the Germans in WW2. I think that even though the Bismarck was sunk it is still the King of the Seas
Sabaton is a metal band from Sweden and the songs that they do is all about history (specialy things with war and people that are heroes) . This song is about the biggest heaviest and most powerful battleship of WW2 name Bismack and it takes name from the Otto Von Bismarck wich was the president that unite Germany after WW1
It's a song about the German battleship the Bismarck, ww2, all their songs are about historic wars and conflicts, the Bismarck sank the HMS Hood, and was only sunk by a lucky torpedo shot and final strike from the HMS Prince Charles and yes, all their songs are hardcore AF
"Who's the king of the sea now"...well if taking down the king is the way to earn the kingship yourself...it would be HMS King George V, HMS Rodney, HMS Dorsetshire, HMS Norfolk, HMS Suffolk, HMS Southampton, HMS Sheffield, HMS Ark Royal, ORP Piorun and few others...
“Who tha king of tha sea now?” The Bismarck continued to fire even whilst it was tipping up, it took four direct hit torpedos (at point blank range) and ship immobilisation by rudder destruction and the entire British navy to sink the thing
Yes, I reacted that way to this video. The watch, given to the young sailor by the Bismark's captain as he escapes the ship. Then you see the guy on the dock, that got them the boat to go out in at the beginning, flip open that watch and you realize that young sailor is that old man. Awesome video. I'm a veteran and a big military history guy and Sabaton does amazing videos and discusses the history behind them. I love this group.
Dude loved your reaction. This video kicks ass ! I,m going to see Sabaton in Salt Lake next month and I can,t wait to see them do this song . By the way these boys have their own history channel.
Bismarck was the first of two Bismarck-class battleships built for the Kriegsmarine (Germany's WW2 Navy). Named after Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, the ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg in July 1936 and launched in February 1939. Work was completed in August 1940, when she was commissioned into the German fleet. Bismarck and her sister ship Tirpitz were the largest battleships ever built by Germany, and two of the largest built by any European power. In the course of the warship's eight-month career under its sole commanding officer, Captain Ernst Lindemann, Bismarck conducted only one offensive operation, lasting 8 days in May 1941, codenamed Rheinübung. The ship, along with the heavy cruiser Prinz Eugen, was to break into the Atlantic Ocean and raid Allied shipping from North America to Great Britain. The two ships were detected several times off Scandinavia, and British naval units were deployed to block their route. At the Battle of the Denmark Strait, the battlecruiser HMS Hood initially engaged Prinz Eugen, probably by mistake, while HMS Prince of Wales engaged Bismarck. In the ensuing battle Hood was destroyed by the combined fire of Bismarck and Prinz Eugen, which then damaged Prince of Wales and forced her retreat. Bismarck suffered sufficient damage from three hits to force an end to the raiding mission. The destruction of Hood spurred a relentless pursuit by the Royal Navy involving dozens of warships. Two days later, heading for occupied France to effect repairs, Bismarck was attacked by 16 obsolescent Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal; one scored a hit that rendered the battleship's steering gear inoperable. In her final battle the following morning, the already-crippled Bismarck was severely damaged during a sustained engagement with two British battleships and two heavy cruisers, was scuttled by her crew, and sank with heavy loss of life. Most experts agree that the battle damage would have caused her to sink eventually. The wreck was located in June 1989 by Robert Ballard, and has since been further surveyed by several other expeditions. *The reason many people love sabaton is due to them doing these unique songs in tribute to many significant figures and battles in military history. Each of their songs sort of pays homage to those who fought regardless of sides and died for their countries, ideals, and families as well as inspires people to learn and remember about those that are "Forgotten" by the general populace which in my opinion is beautiful.*
I also think they manage to sing their songs without romanticising war. That is an important detail for me. War is gritty, horrible and a catastrophe in the loss of life. I think this is shown by Sabaton.
The video was sponsored by a war-game which is why the production is so amazing :) should check out fields of verdun, that video is pretty damned awesome too
you should check out sabatons history channel where they explain the history of every song, since almost every song is about historical moments during wars
When you fight a major nation`s entire navy alone after sinking their flagship, get shot by 2,156 shells and several torpedoes and after all that you have to scuttle your own ship because the enemy cant sink it, yes, Bismarck is the king of the ocean, alongside Yamato the 2 most legendary ships ever created
Song is about the Bismarck, one of two Bismarck class battelships for the German navy. ( 2nd ship was the Tirpitz) The Bismarck was tracked and attacked by the British navy. Due to most naval forces being too far away tto respond, only a couple did. The Bismarck was hit by torpedos launch from old obsolete bipanes which disabled the ships steering. It could only go in a big circle, and ended up fighting 4 other British ships until the ship was scuttled by its own crew and sunk.
There's another, older, song about the same event/ship by Johnny Horton you might want to check out, as well as the song "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald"
The video looks so good, because it was a co-production by Wargaming, the developers of World Of Warships. They asked the band if they had a song to use as promotional material for their game, and instead of using an old one (like they did with 'Primo Victoria' and World Of Tanks), they decided to write a new one. Fans asked for a song about the Bismarck for some time, so they killed two birds with one stone. Check out some of their other stuff, like Fields Of Verdun, Great War, 82nd All The Way, Rorke's Drift, Shiroyama, The Lost Battalion, Night Witches.
You really should watch their history channel and learn about the Bismarck and what happened with this whole operation to sink him. A Little known fact about the Bismarck, its gun was so powerfull during its very first volly fired it shook the ship so hard it broke its radar, and was sailing "blind" for most of the journey..
This was done for World of Warships. Awesome video! My favourite is "40:1" and "Resist & Bite". Sabaton now has a "Sabaton History Channel" to teach the history behind their song. It is extremely well done.
3 Battleships (Rodney, Nelson, Prince of Wales), 1 Battlecruiser (Hood), 1 Aircraft Carrier (Ark Royal whose antiquated biplane squadrons crippled the rudder) and 3 Cruisers (Dorsetshire, Norfolk, Suffolk) are the major ships of the Royal Navy that "met" the Bismarck in one way or another. In the end Rodney, Nelson, Dorsetshire and Norfolk are the ships that surrounded and eventually sunk the Bismarck. These 4 ships fired a combined 3,500 shells at the Bismarck over the course of an hour that resulted in more that 400 confirmed hits on the crippled ship which left her with a heavy list and her fire control and bridge destroyed, killing all her senior officers. Due to this damage, just after 10 am, her guns fell silent. It is widely believed that the crew then scuttled the ship to prevent the ship from falling into British hands. However, this is simply not the case. Since the guns fell silent, Dorsetshire was able to close to "suicide" range (2.5 km) and finish off the Bismarck with 3 torpedoes. 2 torpedoes went into the starboard (right) side of the ship. The last torpedo was fired into the port side (left) of the ship. Because of the heavy list to port, this torpedo struck above the anti-torpedo belt and in an area of the ship without watertight compartments. At 10:30 am the Bismarck capsized and by 10:35 am, sunk beneath the waves. Ironically though, she would come to rest upright in the abyss after sliding down an undersea mountain for years.
The thing with sabaton is they are doing power metal (what is not the most popular thing right now) on another level. The theme is always a historical event and the music video is accompanied by a history lesson video on their YT channel: Sabaton History. When you want to do justice with Sabaton you have to do the music and the history video. It's a bit longer but hell it worths the time. In this case the addition video is th-cam.com/video/r5D3wSqdIG4/w-d-xo.html

Bismarck was a German Battleship that the British saw as a huge threat early in WW2. This is a song of how it was sunk. A torpedo damaged the rudder making it go in circles and a bunch of heavy ships shelled it until it finally went down.
Considering that the odds were 2(Bismark and Prinz Eugen) against the whole Birtish Navy, the battle was shamefully long. The brits won only because they had numbers. In direct battle, Bismark sank the HMS Hood without much effort.HMS Prince of Wales turned tails and ran away. After that they just threw all they had at her untill the greatest battleship ever made to that point sank to the bottom of the ocean
@@forthenightisdarkandfullof536 Prince of Wales was not a complete ship, she still had dock staff aboard to complete systems, fix issues etc, she was ordered to disengage before Hood had sunk (which btw was a golden BB sinking, but such things happen, she was a Battle Cruiser fighting a Battle Ship, not ideal under any circumstances) it was not 'the entire Royal Navy' it was 2 battle ships, 7 cruisers and 3 destroyers vs Bismarck, and she did what Battleships do under gunfire: Stand (hell Warspite had taken a pounding from most of the High Seas Fleet at Jutland and sailed out again, the Dreadnought BBs in that battle had all done so) Very few battleships died to gunfire, ever, so calling it 'shamefully slow' is untrue as well.
@@justicar5 the order issued by Churchil was to all the Royal Navi. This was their main objective. And the battle was very slow considering the force that was hunting one ginormous ship
Bismarck was the largest warship to have ever been built by a European nation. 4x2 380mm (15in) main battery guns and a shit ton of secondary batteries. Her anti air capabilities were spectacular but did not shoot down any of those Swordfish torpedo bombers because the planes were too slow and the AA gun computers were made to aim at faster targets and those bullets and shells that did hit the planes only went straight through the planes. One plane took over a hundred hits and was still flying due to the light frame and that it was basically made out of stretched fabric. Back to the ship. He was 251 meters long and 36 meters wide. He weighed 50 300 tons while fully loaded and had a crew of 2 000 men. Note that I refer to Bismarck as "he" because it was the only ship in the world to ever be referred to as "he". That's also why they sing "King of the ocean. He was made to rule the waves across the seven seas." At the time of his commissioning he was the largest, heaviest, most well armed and armored battleship the world had ever seen.
This song is about the German Battleship KMS Bismarck, about her short life and destruction during WW 2, From the Battle of the Demark Straight to when the Royal Navy's H - Fleet intercepted her and crippled her till the Bismarck scuttled herself. This song is one of my favorites. Enjoy My friends!

the video game company, Wargaming (makers of World of Tanks, World of Warships, etc) collaborates with the band in both games, and its their production and CGI used in this video
The story of the Bismark and the hunt for her is stuff of legend. Her encounter with and distruction of the Hood (all but 3 were killed iirc) set off a chain of events that would lead to a final battle where a British chaplain would beg the British commander to stop firing on the obviously disabled Bismark. War is hell.
Out of 2,200 crewmen of battleship bismarck only 115 survived only 2 of the 100 officers survived and the old man in the video i think was the only last survivor of the battleship and died after the filming of the video.

The Bismarck is the largest ship ever built, built by the Germans in WWII, It, along with its sister ship (which was not a dreadnought as the Bismarck was if i remember correctly) ganged up on the HMS Hood a British ship, as well as it's sister ship, really just a 2 ship patrol situation, and after the report of its demise, the Allies promptly sent over 20 torpedo aircraft, the Nimrod Biplane, as well as a dozen warships after this beast, it displaced 50k tons of water, had the largest array of gunfire, and was promptly sunk after its first battle. The video shows the biplane pilot let loose a torpedo that imitates the real life actions, where a torpedo rendered the steering gear inoperable, you'll also see in the video, a shot that strikes the bridge, which also happened, killing all of the command crew. So without a command crew and no steering gear, the ship was doomed.
Tirpits was also a battleship (dreadnought) as they were the same class battleship and it weighed 2000 tons more then Bismarck because of modifications. The battlecruiser HMS Hood did not have any sisterships, but it was escorted by the HMS Prince of Wales, a King Georg V-class battleship when they engaged the Bismarck and its escort the Prinz Eugen. The planes used to drop the torpedoes were Swordfish torpedobombers.

You’ve done their song To Hell And Back
I love how they also make history videos for each of their songs on a separate channel called Sabaton History.

Well Tirpitz was his sister ship :P
so it's a basically the same ship.
Tripitz was just abother massive battleship produced by the Germans in WW2. I think that even though the Bismarck was sunk it is still the King of the Seas
Bill if you love this one then I believe youd love my absolute favorite Sabaton song. Attack of the Dead Men!
CLOS PSN that’s such a good song!!!
Yes it is
It's the best song that sabaton has created
Dude. Your reaction at the beginning is awesome! Close to my reaction when I first saw it too.
If HMS Ark Royal was sunk by U-81. Does that mean U-81 is now king of the ocean?
@@Front-Toward-Enemy and some of the ships were scraped later so wouldnt the scraping crews be the real kings😂
Look up the Battle of the Denmark Straight. May 24th, 1941. Their are a few really good documentaries about it.
“Who tha king of tha sea now?”
The Bismarck continued to fire even whilst it was tipping up, it took four direct hit torpedos (at point blank range) and ship immobilisation by rudder destruction and the entire British navy to sink the thing
Sabaton has 9 albums and the band was formed back in 1999. 20 years of greatness!
The video was sponsored by a war-game which is why the production is so amazing :) should check out fields of verdun, that video is pretty damned awesome too

There was two Bismarck-class ships, and two Yamato-class ships, so four ships. And don´t forget the Iowa-class.
The first time I heard the song I got plagued with goose bumps and as a long time metal head it had been awhile since that happened
Didn’t Gordon Lightfoot do the one on the Edmund Fitzgerald?
Please react to "Screaming Eagles" by Sabaton. It's about the 101st Airborne at Bastogne.
Or price of a mile
The video looks so good, because it was a co-production by Wargaming, the developers of World Of Warships. They asked the band if they had a song to use as promotional material for their game, and instead of using an old one (like they did with 'Primo Victoria' and World Of Tanks), they decided to write a new one. Fans asked for a song about the Bismarck for some time, so they killed two birds with one stone.
Check out some of their other stuff, like Fields Of Verdun, Great War, 82nd All The Way, Rorke's Drift, Shiroyama, The Lost Battalion, Night Witches.
Sabaton live is life changing. I can't wait to see them this year! 🖤🤘
Sabaton is fantastic, if you enjoy this one you'll likely enjoy all their stuff :D
You really should watch their history channel and learn about the Bismarck and what happened with this whole operation to sink him. The Last Stand(my personal favorite) 82nd All The Way, That Attack of The Dead men, Last Dying Breath, Devil Dogs, Winged Hussars, & Fields of Verdun just to name a few. Band is EPIC! Ill be seeing them Nov 1st. CANT WAIT!!
I just saw them in concert. They're from Sweden so when they come to the US dates are limited. If you get a chance to see them live you should go, it would be a great first concert experience. Also if you liked the visuals of this video check out their video for Primo Victoria
Bismarck was a German Battleship that the British saw as a huge threat early in WW2. This is a song of how it was sunk. A torpedo damaged the rudder making it go in circles and a bunch of heavy ships shelled it until it finally went down.
Never heard this song before, but the story of this battle I know well.
7:15 'Whose king of the sea now?' The Royal Navy, in it's last stand as the worlds greatest fleet. By god those men could fight and sail.
@@justicar5 prinz eugen was there too
Bismarck was the largest warship to have ever been built by a European nation.
“Is this about the navy of somin?”
Why did I laugh so hard when he said that?!😂
that bismarck boat was a MASSIVE boat for its time during the 1940's

I wish I could be a patron and supporter of yours but I'm so glad you did a reaction to this Sabaton video. When I first saw it and I saw HIM coming through the Mists it gave me the absolute Shivers but the song was so good anyway at that point. My husband is a specialist in military history so definitely I do know about the Bismarck. Also I have a 10 year old autistic son that this is the only song that will calm him down if he's upset or having a meltdown so the song takes a special place in my heart. He also adores WWII aircraft and ships. If I could suggest listen to 82nd all the way another Sabaton song that talks about Sergeant Alvin York and the formation of the 82nd Airborne so you're going to enjoy it!

Just saw these guys live last month. They're the real deal.
Fun fact: Some German historians vehemently insist the he was scuttled rather than be sunk by the British.
As far as I know is that it is not clear and it is the kind of thing that germans would do in this position.
And I have heard that the command for self destruction was given. But it isn't clear if they executet it
@@olf7olf72 it was executed but it failed because the ship is too strong

the video game company, Wargaming (makers of World of Tanks, World of Warships, etc) collaborates with the band in both games, and its their production and CGI used in this video
The Bismark sank the HMS Hood in less than 5 minutes, there were ONLY 3 survivors out of over 1,300 sailors!
For those who don't know, the ship that sank is the Bismarck
The Royal Navy sank the largest battleship in Europe
The boat is named "Primo Victoria" 2:33 which is also a Sabaton song you should react to.... Did you see the signifigance of the watch?.... The drummer, Hannes Van Dahl, is married to Floor Jansen!.... It's history lesson about the WW2 German battleship "Bismarck"..... but for a single torpedo hit and more widely spaced screws the Bismarck would have escaped...... Prinz Eugen was with Bismarck for a while and did get away...... took 2 nukes to sink Prinz Eugen after the war!!!!

You will never understand the true raw energy and power Sabaton has and is able to induce to a crowd until you watch the live video of “Ghost Division” at Woodstock in Poland back in 2012 where they brought a crowd of over 650.000 Europeans, including Polish and French, to jam their heads in circles to a song about the 7th German Panzer division.
It took jointed effort from different countries to stop Bismark. Definitely made it´s mark to history.
It took HMS Rodney to score the telling blows. Good old Rodders.
Just earned a new sub today from watching your review!
