Since joining the MRC, I've gotten really into digging into lists. I've mostly been playing DCMS stuff because I love PPCs and I've been learning how C3 works. And Kurita has one of my favorite Battle Armors. I've noticed that most of the vehicles that Kurita produces are Dark Age designs, so I've been trying to put together a company sized Dark Age-era unit primarily comprised of vehicles and infantry, with a command lance of 'mechs.
Thank you for the video. As someone new to BattleTech making a AS list has been a challenge. Not a lot of list building guides out there. Do you plan to make more list guides and tips? I found your tip about raising light mechs pilot skill to save points to be really useful.
ComStar being gone but Smoke Jaguar being reconstituted is something I don't much like with the current state of the setting, but I do really like that time marches on instead of being stagnant.
So going from the Commanders Edition of Alpha Strike, you can use formations to give units additional special rules in addition to giving at least 1 unit additional special pilot abilities for a point cost. How often do you ever build lists with those in mind? I've been dabbling into it after learning how to build a basic list because I wanted something more with my list building.
I rarely use them. In general formations and pilot special abilities are better for narrative games and best suited for talking to your opponent first. Those list building options open up a lot of min/max try hard options and can skew a game pretty hard. They are in general so hard to balance that that is the reason you don’t see them used for tournament play. For example. The special pilot ability Range Mastery. Why wouldn’t you always take this if it was an option. If you’re playing on a 4x4 you take medium range mastery on a super strong unit, say a Mad Cat with 7 damage at medium and skill 3. This makes it so that you’d treat medium as short range for modifiers effectively making you have a +0 for a range mod. In other words, it makes it so your unit almost never misses at medium range.
@Sentient Construct one of the aspects that battletech has always adhered to; All units are always available to all factions. while there are some units (mechs, vehicles, etc) that a faction will typically use, there is no exclusivity. additionally, there are no 'faction specific' rules, penalties or benefits. basically, pick the mechs you like and play!
@@bruced648 thank you for that. It's been a bit and I made that post back when I was dipping my toes into battletech. I ended up going with a custom mercenary lance based on my mw5 playthrough (:
Using "BattleMech" as a "Sub Type" means conventional BattleMechs, excluding OmniMechs. If you select "BattleMech" as a "Type" it includes both.

Thanx, (thanks), Justin, for your enthusiasm and inclusiveness that 'oozes' from your videos. AWESOME!! Keep 'em coming!
Doing my best :)
Excellent vidoe explaining this tool. Thank you for producing it.
Great video, Now I understand how to use the Master Unit List!
Happy to help :)
Thanks!
Amazing video man thanks!
I laminate all my AS cards with easy erase laminate. You just use dry erase markers with them. I cut the corners of the cards as the laminate is sharp

I do! I’d like to break down the other unit types and what I look for and consider when list building. Those will go up as I get time to film them :)
Mule video! Woot!

What if you know the mechs you want to field but don't know what faction that puts you in?

Master Unit List will help you determine what factions have access to the mechs you like :)
Thanks

Rim World Republic -> Word of Blake, your turn!!!!
What's a decent list size for standard games?
250-300 is the sweet spot imo :) wanna go faster go 150 and maybe have a larger deployment zone to get the game going a little quicker.
