    The way Ed was swinging that knife around, I hope Mike wasn't injured filming him.

    I have an Emerald Beaut Plum that was planted last year and it's starting to bloom with less than 40 hours of chill (Orlando, FL)! I hope it can give me some fruit this year, but just in case I'm positive that it's adaptable to my low-chill area.

    • @DaveWilsonTrees
      @DaveWilsonTrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hope you get some fruit, but just because it blooms doesn't mean the flowers are viable.

      @@DaveWilsonTrees I appreciate the feedback. You're absolutely right, so it's a gamble. However, you've shared plenty of stories when varieties with originally high-chill ratings have been adaptable in areas where winter chill is minimal. My Sweet Treat Pluerry (originally rated at 850 chill hours per the DWN tag) produced fruit for me in Orlando, FL with winters consistently at or below 100 chill hours. Those success stories give me hope and a sense of adventure to experiment with those varieties.

      With stone fruit it's not a matter of being adaptable. It's more the breeder being wrong about their method of figuring required chill before trees can be actually tested. They try to guess on the high end usually. It takes people willing to gamble, and then actually tell us about it. WIth Emerald Beaut, it's an old variety and likely tested, though I'm not sure. If you get a crop, please tell us about it. We knew none of our Pluerry varieties were going to be 800 hours, but the breeder insisted we start there.

    Enjoyed this one.
    I have a couple Persimmons and the leaves are curling upward pretty severely and there's some branch dieback. Planted early spring this year. The leaves on your trees look amazing this time of year. Any thoughts?

    • @DaveWilsonTrees
      @DaveWilsonTrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be over watering. How often do you irrigate? Where are you? Could be soil related also.

    • @tinyjungle_
      @tinyjungle_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DaveWilsonTrees Zone 10B and in a very Sunny Spot. I water deeply once a week for for about 10 minutes. I have about 90 other trees but the Persimmons seem to be the only ones that are struggling. No noticeable mites or pests. Maybe it is too much water.

    • @DaveWilsonTrees
      @DaveWilsonTrees  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably water related. Use a moisture meter and do not water until it’s dry.

      You need to check out some of their vids. One comes to mind where they planted veriaties that were considered to be " high/ low" chill for their area just to see. They were pleasantly surprised by what they got.
      I wish I could remember the name of the video for you..

      Apples instead of stone fruit but still might be worth trying to see what you get.
