    Fantastic lesson on top choice fruit trees for the backyard orchard! Love the idea of cherry-plum hybrids; just added the Sweet Treat Pluerry to our home garden!

      I fermented some cider last year with burgundy plum and some pluots added in and it tastes great. I finish it dry and don't back sweeten, carbonate it. Tastes like some plum champagne.

    Dear Tom, happy to see you after a long time. Just wanted to let you know that I had to leave my little garden, where I planted all my fruit trees as per your advice and method. Don't know when I can return back to my country and see my garden and fruit trees in Afghanistan again. However, just wanted to assure you that all your devices and methods are applicable and useful. Surely, the practitioners will see the result if they take all your advice into consideration, as I did.
    Take care and God bless you.

    So good to see you out there, Tom! As you know, your DWN vids started it all for me and my fruit obsession.
    Side note: Holy Cow those Cot-N-Candy are humongous compared to my immature tree's fruit! I'm more like golfball sized, and yours look like a baseball!

      Our budwood trees got heavily thinned this year for better budwood. The fruit on the tree in our demo orchard is smaller than normal though.

    I think it would be great video to watch different D.W. employees and you finding some favorites and showing some luxury of their take home benefits. I've just enjoyed my first fruit from a couple Santa Rosa plums here in East Texas. I'm betting with a smart little pruning next year could be a humdinger.

    Great video. I love seeing these fruits at peak. It would be great if we could suggest varieties for you to try in your videos. Often times we grow new varieties and don't really know what to expect in terms of ripening, color, etc. I get very excited when I see you try a variety that I have. Give me something to compare mine to.

    Welcome back, Tom. Any chance Dave Wilson Nursery can sell bundles of scion wood? This could extend DWN business to selling scion cuttings to reputable nurseries for those of us that want to graft due to limited space in urban backyards? I'm not very trusting of buying grafting wood on Etsy and other sketchy resources! Zone 7a here.

    I was looking to see if you had any more info on multi-tree plantings so we could see how they are doing 5 or 10 years after planting. You said to plant compatible trees, but are a plum and pear be compatible? Or are they too different to grow well? Happy Gardening! :-)

    Fantastic. This is a great season for Plum and Nectarines here at the edge of the desert, we nearly finished the season, and we are ending it with some amazing Pomegranate red heart Japanese Plums and Sugar sweet white Nectarines.
    Can't go any further into the summer due to pests.
    Can you do a video about your Pest and Disease control? I am looking for new Ideas for Organic ways to extend the season.

    I got a 4 in 1 plum with Beauty plum being the main cultivar. After tasting the beauty plum, I’m not even sure I like Santa Rosa anymore. Its super sweet. I took a bunch to work and my co-workers said they taste like Candy. I didn’t think my tree so they were on the small size…just perfect to pop into your mouth. The only negative thing that I read is that they are not very meaty and can be watery. I live in the desert so the sun and heat must be perfect for concentrating the flavor.

    • @DaveWilsonTrees
      @DaveWilsonTrees  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, not a meaty type plum, but it’s tasty. Burgundy is a good low chill meaty type.

    I'm at northeastern Ohio zone 6A
    I just received a Japanese persimmon in a 4x4x8-in about 5 ft high growing very well
    I normally buy everything bare root and do the initial knee-high prune and the spring but obviously I could not do that this time
    I was planning on reading about a week or two until I got some new growth from it and then making a knee-high prune
    Should I do the knee-high per now or should I wait until spring next year while it's dormant?

    • @DaveWilsonTrees
      @DaveWilsonTrees  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you can top it without defoliating the tree it’s fine. Otherwise just let it go dormant, and prune early spring.

    My 6 year old apple tree never had any flowers or fruit since it was planted. What brand fertilizer do you use?
    We use the citrus & fruit tree spies twice a year. Plenty of growth, but no flowers or fruit ever yet. We have pruned it.

  • @Ditchgrl
    @Ditchgrl 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Do you happen to know what the tree’s response would be if I summer prune the grafted laterals? These are 4-5 year established espaliers (apple and a pear) that have been completely unproductive.

    Do any of the hybrids (pluots, apriums, pluerry) tend to be very cold hardy? I’m at 7,200’ and probably zone 5ish. We have apples, cherries, and plums, and we’re always on the lookout for more

    Fruit tube is on point! Wish you all shipped, there's only 1 place in VA that sells DWN trees. I went there and bought a few Indian Free peach trees 2 years ago and when i got home (2 hours later) I noticed some of them had May Pride tags on them also. :( They have also sold us a sterile apricot and a couple cherry trees that don't pollinate each other. Disappointing when it takes years to figure out why theres no fruit. They say buy from a reputable nursery but the weakest link is the retail outlet. so umm yeah.. Let us know when you start shipping!

    If a tree was planted in early spring, but not pruned to knee height at that time, and all growth has been above that height, when is the best time to take it down to knee height? Summer? Late winter?
