I chose the first tier of the CAD's Sky lantern festival, and I was happy with it. I will share the direct link to the ticket site, once they are open for 2024!
In the past hundreds of years, Chiang Mai was the center of the Lanna Kingdom, which was not under the authority of Sukhothai (the first center of power of Siam). Later, it became a colony of Ayutthaya (the second center of power of Siam) which ruled the central, northeastern and southern regions of Siam. However, Chiang Mai (the Lanna Kingdom) still had a king, its own traditions, culture and governance....At times when Ayutthaya (Siam) was weak, they were independent or pledged allegiance to the King of Hanthawaddy (Burma). Chiang Mai, including the entire Lanna Kingdom, was completely annexed as part of Siam (Thailand) in 1899, but the people still firmly maintain their original traditions and identity. Note: The Lanna Kingdom (in the past) was the entire northern region of Thailand, consisting of the provinces of Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Phrae, Nan and Lampang.

Hi I am Planning to visit this year but u had read reviews that it’s too crowded , too big queue and not managed well, fire takes places . Can u highlight your experience on the crowd , crowd and waiting at the food area in standard zone and also travel queue etc Thanks
Yes, I am not going to sugarcoat it. It is a crowded festival with tons of people, but the overall experience was worth the hassle. Also, there are certain things you can do to avoid the long queue, such as taking the last scheduled bus to the venue if you don't mind missing out on some of the festival's daytime activities. I arrived late, but they still had plenty of food. As for going back to the city center after the festival, there were so many tuk-tuks standing by, as you can see in this vlog. I hardly waited for the ride back.
Yes, you can see the monk's ceremony at temples in the city without paying. If you want to fly a burning lantern, you need to purchase a ticket to this festival.

Yes, you can see the monk's ceremony at temples in the city without paying. If you want to fly a burning lantern, you need to purchase a ticket to this festival.
