Nobody would care about a single payment processor pulling support for a particular business so long as there were other payment processors that still worked. But there aren't. @@KookoCraft this isn't a 'centralization' problem though, this is two major businesses choosing to suspend service for something they 'disagree' with. The solution is simply having more than VISA and Mastercard available for processing said transactions. This has nothing to do with governmental currencies.

All Japanese companies should sue Visa and mastercard for unjust locks on purchases on alleged "uncensored" products. That kind of restriction is anti-freedom and Visa and MasterCard should suffer major financial consequences.

As someone living in Japan for the last several years I have felt that, despite (or perhaps because of) increased tourism and foreigner presence in Japan, the Japanese attitude has been quietly slipping more and more into isolationism. The outside world - sans Korea - is of little to no interest to the average Japanese especially compared to even 10 years ago. I think these kinds of actions push Japan towards rejecting all foreign influence. (Whether they can afford it irt importation of energy, goods, and agriculture is another matter)

The moment Visa/MC start trying to editorialize their clients is the moment they should lose all their privileges internationally. Similar to how Google/YT editorializing content should be punished by removing their protections as a platform.

Japan had JCB which had an US base (JCBUSA) but they closed down in 2018 because very few people got them. If they had waited out just a bit longer as VISA and MC started doing this stuff, they wouldve gotten a huge new customer base.

And right now those Russian platforms can't work in most countries outside of Russia, most of which have their own blocks. Going through numerous third parties to still end up using visa or Mastercard is also costly.
This isn't like PayPal or Payoneer acting up, they're front end, it's the payment systems on the backend that allow most of the world to shop beyond their borders and within them. That's what these bastards control. It also has to be recognised by most retailers and not region locked to certain countries.
