    My "How to think like a Grazier" book arrived today, and Greg signed it. What a grand surprise to have it signed. I work with some very famous people and never want an autograph. This is a treat. Thanks Greg.

    You guys inspired us to try cultivating mushrooms last winter. So far we have harvested some wine caps grown on maple wood chips; still patiently waiting for our first shiitakes and oysters from hardwood logs. Thank you!

    When you soak the Mushrooms in hot water, you use that water in the cooking like a stock, apart from the bit at the bottom where you get any unwanted solids.

    I keep eyeballing my mushroom logs waiting to see them do something. They were inoculated in March, dry summer, totem stacked in the shade, we've had two weeks of decent rain.

    Someone (maybe my grampa? Don't remember) once told me the purpose of farming is to convert inedible stuff into edible stuff. Trees become mushrooms. Dirt becomes fruit and veggies. Grass becomes beef. Bugs become chickens and eggs.

    This weather we been getting is wonderful. We got probably 3 inches in 2 weeks. I don’t think we got 3 inches of rain all summer including some of May too. Grass is really starting to grow compared to this summer. Thanks for all your videos!

    The smaller mushrooms are ideal for storage dried and used in soups or as a base in stocks...... check out the nutrition value too! Quite impressive!

    There is a brand of mushroom jerky that was on shark tank - Pan's mushroom jerky. It's shitaki mushrooms partially dehydrated with seasoning. It sells for ~$55/lb ($7.50 for a 2.2 oz bag). It is seriously good, so good I'm considering growing my own mushrooms just to make jerky out of

    Could you use trunk wood from a young tree that is 4-6” in diameter? I have some beech and maple I was going to use.

    They really are "that good". They keep well in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel in the frig. We have kept em that way for several weeks. Inoculation was definitely the most labor intensive. The time to grow shitake is a better gamble than walking miles n miles looking for morrels.

    how would oak branches work, if you chipped them and laid a path in a thicket?

    • @dutch1999
      @dutch1999 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might still get some mushrooms but by doing that you open the wood up to contamination from other competing bacteria and fungi so wouldn't get the same production as you would from a log.

    Once upon a time long long ago and far away ….I used to eat mushrooms I liked them but I had to stop they didn’t like me! My Mum always started her stories to the grand kids that way ! she made a lasting impression on her granddaughter who would start her school essays that way. She was adamant that she had to begin her essays with those words and would not listen to the teacher as Grammy had more pull. The teacher visited Mum and asked for her help in setting the stubborn child straight about stories and essays. It must of worked because Her granddaughter went on to become a scientist.
    I have one burning question are mushrooms rejuvenating you look like you are much younger than you claim to be? Raising,hunting,foraging and fishing must be a great way to get your food, good food healthy body.🌟🍀☘️🍀🌟🖖🖖🖖🌟👋👋👋🌟👋👋👋🌟🙋🏼‍♀️💖💞💖

    Save those denatured mushrooms and the grade B ugly looking ones. dehydrate and then POWDER them. on top of dried mushrooms, people will buy mushroom powder for seasoning, teas and other cooking uses.
