Drill bit on a grinder, wow, never seen that before. So efficient. You guys have got that process completely down pat. Greg, thanks for sharing this, it's very interesting to see for real.
We went to your grazing school last spring and bought some of your mushrooms. Absolutely delicious! Honestly they’re the best mushrooms we’ve ever had. Thanks for making your how to videos.
That look like a lot of fun especially when you have great company. It’s cooling off again here. We are going to get 2-4 inches of snow between tonight and tomorrow. Thanks again for all your videos!
Looking to inoculate 40 logs before winter is over. I know I want shitake, and maybe will try oysters too. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful information. I am back home now and looking forward to seeing the improvements that come from another season of managed grazing.
Great video. What does occasional rain do to those logs. We have a spot of rain say twice a month for up to two days but we got a patch of two weeks almost non stop rain. Also, don't other mushrooms try to take over?
I’m praying to find some help like you have Greg , thanks for another gold mine of information for free . My cows loved the protein tubs! ironically the one heifer I figured I’d sell first, because she’s got longer legs, has shown she’s a smart leader cow . She’s figured out as soon as I show up with a reel of Poly braid it’s time to move and she paces back and forth and leads the heard
Many of them are sold as dried mushrooms. This allows you to preserve them when you have more than you can sell at certain times of the year. We have 2 large dehydrators that can handle a lot of mushrooms fairly quickly.
I have to catch up and watch your previous videos I thought that I would have time this weekend but it’s just another work day in the office best laid plans often go astray. I have a Mum story for you her philosophy was if someone wants to give you the worst old thing you accept it and say thank you .Times going by too fast I will tell you the rest of the story another day it involves my great aunts a second story window a pit dug and the ensuing mess don’t worry about Kate and Vinnie they were sixty miles away when it happened 🙄🪟🎁😉👍👍👍👍🖖🖖🖖🖖🙋🏼♀️😘💞💕💞💫🌟💫🍀☘️🍀🙋🏼♀️
Thanks for the information. Always wondered how you grow mushrooms in logs.

Made some homemade Japanese clear soup the other day and put some Greg Judy mushrooms in there. A low carb meal. Very good! Thank you all!
Sounds good!!
Learned a few things, thank you. Impressive set up

Poor Smokey, having to work so hard 😊
Thank you for the information. Very helpful, plan on growing some too.
Glad it was helpful!
How many pounds of mushrooms are you anticipating, Greg? And how well do they store fresh?
On a good harvest, we can get 1 pound of mushrooms per log. They fruit 2-3 times per growing season with adequate moisture received.
Thank You for sharing! Future Goals. 👍

Great video! Love it
How fresh cut? We lost a lot of oak in hurricane over a month ago and wondering if I can still use them?
Interesting! Love mushroom but very afraid to grow them. Much to learn!
You can do it!
Wish I was near you! I would get these. In our hot Phoenix summers I am pretty sure mushrooms wouldn’t make it.
You are too dry for growing mushrooms I would suspect.
I have started 6 logs so far. And one lions mane
Do you have to spore them once or spore them every year I missed it if you said the answer to this
Just one time is all that they need inoculated
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher ok thank you sir
What kind of angle grinder are you using? It handled that job with ease.
Makita angle grinder that turns at 13,000 rpm’s
Love it 💵
Who do you sell your mushrooms to after you harvest?
Grocery stores, restaurants, friends, our grazing school
Is it too late in the year for me to cut limbs and order spawn? Central Texas trees are alreading budded and leafing out.
Do you wax the end of your logs! This is my first year to grow mushrooms i am so excited.
No you do not wax the ends of the logs, only where you drill the holes and put in spawn
@@gregjudyregenerativerancher thank you
Do you have any issues with deer eating the mushrooms?
No the deer do not bother them. slugs are your biggest pest, they like eating them.
Greg do you have problems with animals [Deer] eating your Mushrooms?
Only slugs😒
Greg, your next book should be called "Don't do that" 😂
I like it!
Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgment.
Did you sell your longs
We have raw logs for sale and inoculated logs for sale.
With this many logs this is commercial scale operation. How do you market the 100's, maybe 1,000s, of pounds you will produce this year?
Many of them are sold as dried mushrooms. This allows you to preserve them when you have more than you can sell at certain times of the year. We have 2 large dehydrators that can handle a lot of mushrooms fairly quickly.
What about ash?
Ash will grow Olive Oystering mushrooms and Nameko musrooms, not shiitake.
where do you buy your shade cloth
Greenhouse and landscaping supply companies carry it
are shiitaki different from shiitake mushrooms?
That’s a typo they are shiitake
@@Alpha1Farms gotcha, thanks!
Is that wax or parafin?
Wax.
l be coming back to this as we clear our land.

This video ga e me polio
I always associate shiitake mushrooms with breaking school windows and throwing tantrums. That may be just me, though.
